Carenado T-34 released [Marketplace]

DennyA

SOH-CM-2023
The Carenado T-34B is out! It’s on Marketplace for $22.99 (or $2.99 for me, thanks to Microsoft Rewards points I’d been saving up for this!)

Won't have a chance to fly it until after work, but I'm super-excited as I have a couple of hours flying formation and BFM in the Skywarriors T-34B back in the late 90's.

Only 2024 I fear?

Priller
For now. I think Carenado will eventually offer a downgraded version for people still using 2020. They eventually released their early C172, which came out first for 2024.

I'll say, though, that the better flight modeling in 2024 is noticeable flying the new version and then the 2020 early C172. (As it is with the iniBuilds T-33.) So not sure the eventual 2020 version will feel as good. (Of course, 2020-only folks will never see the better FM so they won't mind. :) )

Sigh. I'm really looking forward to this plane, but I've grown to really hate the "Marketplace only" releases. I can't paint them. I guess I'll wait until Carenado eventually releases it on their site like I did with the F33 (or until someone skilled posts a paint on fs.to so I can see the texture layout). I hope they eventually do. I'm still waiting on the B390 and the B55.

It's super-frustrating that this is even necessary, but apparently the VFS Explorer can be used to get to liveries from streming planes. There's info here: https://github.com/CedricPump/MSFS_Livery_Toolchain

Being new to 2024, I was wondering about this. Since the marketplace aircraft are all streamed, you never download them and thus can't look at the textures, is that correct? That would make this a no-no for me. But I thought I'd seen somewhere that you now can download things?

You can use the vfsprojector in debug mode to look at the files, though I think there is an issue with Asobo adding a.non-standard header to dxt2 files...
Edit:that's a great link above but beyond my level, I just splash about with paint.net!
And you can download aircraft in your library.

I bought the T-34 late last night. I look forward to an enjoyable first flight, when I can do so without MSFS 2024 crashing. In the course of 15 minutes, it CTD'd twice.......damn it. NC😡😡

Yes, you can download them, but the files are still encrypted.

I've only downloaded the YS-11, just to see...you can see the folder and file structure and see the texture files but they can't be opened with the NVidia texture converter. I think this is where Asobo have extended the DXT2 file structure, there was a post to that effect on the official forum. Maybe other tools can open them?

I've had more success using the VFSProjector to see textures and config files...don't tell Asobo but sometimes I've been able to see the config files of supposedly encrypted files...

I just wrote Carenado support requesting a paintkit or at least a blank livery to use as a repaint template.

Might be helpful if they got multiple similar requests. Just sayin'. :) They used to include a blank livery with their planes in the FSX/P3D days.

Good idea. I'm on it.

Since purchasing this, I managed to take off in the T34, circled a field and then the sim crashed. In total for just today, MSFS2024 crashed 8 times in less than two hours. I am done for the day. Waste of my time. NC
