CBI Scenery Project

Kev just raised a valid point with me regarding the land & waterclass bgls (###_LC.bgl or ###_WC.bgl).

With large projects such as this, as I expand the areas of coverage, I'm adding to existing files. Now, the standing instruction is to allow the "newer" file to overwrite the older one.
however, because these 4 packs all got uploaded today, it's possible that somebody will not install these in order, & might end up overwriting a newer landclass or waterclass bgl with an older one.

Rather than go back over everything, just keep in mind the order these packs were first created in:

1) Rangoon
2) Moulmein
3) Bassein
4) Toungoo

If you install them in order, you should end up with the latest LC & WC bgls inT

Great job John,
Appreciate the effort it would’ve taken to put that together

Cheers
Aussie
Thanks. It's not the Solomons, or Papua New Guinea (yet), but as there's a lot more "land" it's becoming more & more complicated.

I tried to get the major rivers & roads right as I see lot's of references in narratives of flyers using these as navigation aids.

You don't really see that so often reading histories about PNG or Solomons ;) - there's the ocean, the coastal strips & not much else ...

Thank you for these scenery packs Uncle, can't imagine the amount of work it took to make. Apart from some articles here and there and the book "God is my co-pilot" by Robert L. Scott i don't know much about the CBI. Thanks again :applause:

Ludo,

You should do more reading about the CBI.The AVG ( Flying Tigers ) were there, the British also had Squadrons there and don't forget Merrill's Mauraders. My father in law was apart of Merrill's action in Burma, they started with about 3000 men I think and by the end of their trek only about 150 were combat ready and had to fight a major engagement at Myitkyina.Even though the AVG was disbanded Tex Hill stayed with Chennault and so did a few other pilots and joined the USAAF and helped form and train the new Group including Chinese Pilots. He also knew Chaing Kai Shek, his wife and General Stillwell.

There is a AVG Complete done years ago that tells their story,it's 3 campaigns-1 is their story in Burma - 2 is when they flew from China and -3 is when they became the CATF (China Air Task Force).

The ETO,PTO,PNG and MTO are better known while the CBI has been overlooked some what.It played a big role in defeating the Japanese also.

UncleTgt submitted a new resource:

NW Thailand - Fifth in my Burma/CBI scenery packages, this adds Thai airbases & some local gsl scenery.

NW Thailand Scenery for CFS2 by UncleTgt

View attachment 171427

This is a reworking of the stock sceneries for the NW area of Thailand. This is the fifth in a series of scenery releases, to expand & build on this area to cover more of the CBI theatre of operations. It is not a complete scenery set, as the area is simply too large & complex, but a collection of airfields used during the early part of the Burma Campaign in 1942. Some G2K scenery elements have been created around...

Great work John - thanks very much! I've been doing some scenic flights around this hilly terrain and everything looks fabulous.

Hiede,

I have Lashio & Namsang already done. Thinking about adding Meiktila, maybe small strips at Bhamo & Kengtung too, before releasing as a package.

I think the strip at Heho was a Jap construction after spring '42, so I'll leave that one out.

I'm currently working my way up the Irrawaddy from Prome to Magwe. I may then continue to Mandalay, depends on how long & complex the Magwe stretch takes.

I already have the G2K maps set up for the coastlines from Bassein to Ramree Island (no permanent air facilities in this section), Ramree to Akyab, & then Akyab to Chittagong... but each section probably takes a solid 8 weeks to do, so not anticipating finishing them any time soon!!!

I also have the G2K map sorted for the Tavoy area, but have parked it as I think there are more useful bits to do first 😀.

Thanks for the quick reply UT.Looks like the AVG missions can be redone with new scenery.

Thank you very much for this new scenery, John!
This afternoon I finally built my new CBI install with your Burma, Thailand and now China sceneries. They all look absolutely gorgeous! I first explored the area around Rangoon in a Buffalo (thanks for the updated version, looks great and flies much better than the original) and then around Kunming in a DC-3.
I had a great time, more flying to come tomorrow.
