CFS3 can now be played online with GameRanger

Hey Luca thanks for that and no apologies necessary.

Made perfect sense.

I am pretty sure my attempt at Italian would not fair as well:costumes:

Hi
sorry for my bad english ,
yesterday i had opened and played with some forum mebmers a test game on GameRanger, the max number of player was 4 ( on private games i can host 16 ).
I think the max numbers of players is independent form free account (bronze card), but is depend from server administrators settings for the games.
I have see some games opened from host with the bronze cards played by 8 - 12 - 16 players.
But I am not sure at 100%

I can confirm the 4 player limit on gameranger [changing your internet connection speed at GR had no effect],and checking Gold+Silver cards ,I could not find any where that these pay accounts would increase the allowed number of players. This could just be a over sight with the admin. settings.

Gameanger

When you do use gr and are the host, when you click 'start' what happens? In EAW you get the panel where the host click's 'launch' . When he does that we go into a countdown and poof - we are all in the air flying.

When a game is posted at Gameanger , 3 other people can join it, all 4 wait in a chat room with everybody's CFS3 turned off. When host hits the start button ,this auto starts the hosts' CFS3,after the hosts' game is up the 3 players' games auto start .CFS3 loads to the game list page and this seems to be the point where some times players' games may hang , get an error ,or time out [the 'check u r connected 2 the internet error] and not make it into the game. With Gameanger you can not join a game in progress , everone in the game MUST start together in the chat room.

CFS3, GameRanger, and Vista

:kilroy:To the GameRanger people. At approximately 11:00 AM EDT-USA today, a test joining between CFS3 on Windows XP and CFS3 on Vista was attempted. There were two attempts:

1. Vista CFS3 tried to join XP CFS3. There were mismatches: Bf109G10, Bf109G6...

2. XP CFS3 tried to join CFS3 Vista CFS3. The Vista user got this message: "control "browser" isn't found in the "digmp_dogfightersscores.xml""

I am currently looking for another Vista user who is willing to attempt this. If anyone is seriously interested, please PM me here at SOH.

Note: Your CFS3 install must be vanilla. Updated with the 3.1 and 3.1a Updates only. No mods at all, but Mission Builder may be OK.

Thank you.:d

Wull

I HAVE VISTA AS WELL AS XP I CAN INSTALL GAME ON VISTA SIDE AND SEE IF IT WORKS BUT I REALLY DONT THINK SO THATS WHY I HAVE 2 HARD DRIVES 1 WITH VISTA 1 WITH XP!BUT ILL GIVE IT A TRY LET ME NO NEVER WORKED BEFORE:censored:

Wull

It's completely free to play. As one-eye said, there are Silver and Gold accounts as well, but they are not required. There is a space for an ad banner in the main window, which will eventually be used, but is currently just a placeholder.

As for mods, I have no idea. I have only tested the stock version.

I haven't tested CFS3 with GameRanger on Vista, but all the other supported games generally work fine with Vista, so I don't see why it wouldn't.
VISTA HAS NOT ONLY MISMATCHED WITH ONLINE PLAY IN CFS3 BUT AGOOD PERCENT OF GAMES ALOT MORE RECENT THAN CFS3 ONCE AGAIN ARE BUDDY HAS GOT THE BETTER I FEAR!!!!:bs:

Sorry about the delay in getting back.

-sometimes freezes at the mulitiplayer server list
-some players are unable to host or join
-sometimes CFS3 auto times out before players can join a game

Are any these related to each other?

-Max of 4 players[can this be changed?]

Okay, I should be able to fix this. I thought 4 seemed like a pretty low number, but it was the dialup issue. I'll have GameRanger automatically set it to a faster connection type so the max players increases.

-you can not go to desktop from CFS3 or the game aborts

Does this still happen? Early versions of GameRanger would automatically quit the game if you alt-tabbed back to it. That no longer happens.

Scott Kevill-we recieved this error from time to time
INGUILX
Control-'1st Zone "isn't found in the dialog " dlgmissionslist.xml"

I do remember seeing that happen, but I don't remember what caused it.

FYI

I used one of my gmail accounts to register. My spam settings block all junk to my in box. I have had 4 spam emails get past my filter since using the account to register with the client install just yesterday.

Not digging that

You should re-evaluate your opinion of GMail's spam filters then. GameRanger has not ever since it launched in 1999 (nor will it ever) share your account e-mail address with anyone.

We have found that those using versions of Windows BEFORE XP can not use Gameranger.

Windows 2000 will probably be okay, although it is not officially supported, and hasn't had a lot of testing. Windows 95 and 98 are definitely out though.

I like gameranger because it does provide a chat room and a voice option that works almost as good as Team Speak. It has a small delay.

I am guessing you were using the in-room voice (that was accidentally left enabled to Bronze members) rather than the in-game voice. The in-game voice uses a different method, and has less delay than Team Speak.

As far as what games are supported I Scott Kevill's answer. It seems that it is game independent to me. Set up hosting for any game you like and just point to the execute you want to use.

Yes and no. The core technology will work with any game, but the support is tailored to each game. In the case of CFS3, if mods alter the user interface (I don't know if that's possible), eg. the menus, that could stop GameRanger from clicking in the right places or detecting the correct menu stage.

CFS3 loads to the game list page and this seems to be the point where some times players' games may hang , get an error ,or time out [the 'check u r connected 2 the internet error] and not make it into the game.

Is it always the same people that this happens to?

With Gameanger you can not join a game in progress , everone in the game MUST start together in the chat room.

I wasn't aware CFS3 supported late joining. That's easy enough to enable.

How do you host a game in GR? I think this is great. We where looking for a sever to host CFS3 and now we have one.

I don't know, RG seems to stumble once in a while leaving CFS3's 'mulitiplayer server list' and connecting to the hosts game.
-I thought of this after but could leaving 'Publish my game in the M$ Server ' box checked [on] be the cause of some hosting problems ?
-As for the joining problems , I know the people who tryed have clean copys of CFS3 , and were able to join one time to the host , and not the next try to the same host.
-As well when joining ,the CFS3 error popped up while waiting at the cfs3 'mulitiplayer server list' to check you are connected to the internet , I believe this is a timed error message if the connection takes to long [60sec or so] .If you have a slow booting older PC hosting it uses up a lot of time , then add on a older or slower booting joining players PC which doesn't start to boot up cfs3 until the hosts' cfs3 is done.I also wonder what effect a slow connection speed has on this sequence ?
-The freezing at CFS3's 'mulitiplayer server list' has no error box pop up.

Presently CFS3 will allow up to 16 wild eyed loony players in a game at a time .

It does seem to strike the same people more than others although FireStorm was unable to join or host at all .

Hi all
i had try to connect today at game ranger - automatic update installed - now seem possible to host 16 players in game !
Great Job . ty

I think also be possible players join when the game is running , but necessary to test.

Tried to host / join game with Luca 16 and 4 player if that matters and did not work.???????????????????

Glad I did not pay for this site. Not to be rude but so far do's not work. Hope it can be fixed. Would be a good alternative for CFS3 games.

Luca I wonder if its a CFS3 error? Maybe it times out before players can connect to host , OR do you think its a Gameanger error ???
It's good to hear that 16 players can now join ,perhaps we can test this again . At least someone is listening to our requests , this is a lot better than the way Microsoft treated us ! ! ! :bs:

Hmm, looks like there may be more issues with this game than I thought. I'll keep looking into it, but if the game is somewhat fragile with networking in general, I may have to remove it. Sorry for getting your hopes up, this is disappointing.

:kilroy:Scott Kevill, please don't remove it just yet. It needs more testing. I hosted a game the other day. I had as many as four others in it at once, that's five total. One more tried to come in, but couldn't for some reason. I told him to uninstall and reinstall both the game and GameRanger. I will host again on Friday.:d
