Champ camp: Show us your screens.......

Cazzie

SOH-CM-2024
It is my sad fortune to inform you that the Champ camp lost a leader. Pointy31, aka Mike Mire, passed into Champ Heaven on September 3rd.

As you all know, many of my repaints and John049's were the inspiration of Pointy, I feel I have lost a true lifetime friend. I am going to miss his Cajun humor and his Cajun Kool-Aid :icon_lol:.

Here's to a Champion.

Oh my gosh! Pointy passed away?!?!?!?!? That is a blow to us all. He was such a character.

RIP Pointy. May you always have clear skies, smooth flights and happy landings. You will be missed.

I can't post any screenshots of my Champs as I not at home, but will post one in Pointy's honor later today.

It saddens me to read that Pointy31, aka Mike Mire has passed away .

I enjoyed the Champ post .... I think it was one of the longest running.

In memory of Mike I'm going to reinstall the Champ and enjoy the simple pleasures of tree top flying.

Pete.

This has to be one of the hardest posts I've ever had to do. Mike was the main reason I started repainting planes to post for other people. I remember he pm'd me asking if I could do an L-16B repaint for him. My response was 'I'm no Leon Louis but I'll give it a shot'. Granted I'm not the best repainter but I never heard anyone complain, and I got nothing but encouragement from Mike. I am absolutely heartbroken right now, but I know that he is in a better place and that gives me some comfort. I have a couple screenshots of another Pointy-inspired repaint; this one inspired by a real-life Tri-Traveler but it worked out pretty good on the Champ as well.
Rest in Peace Pointy. You will be sorely missed.:engel016:

Very saddened to hear this, I never really had the pleasure of conversing with Mike, but I will still miss his presence. I enjoyed reading his posts but not being a Champ fan, never joined in. I've slowely come round to enjoying some GA, so as soon as I can, I'll install the champ (link anyone?) and take her up around the Highlands and Islands (sure wish they looked as beautiful and serene in FS as they are in RL as they are a stunning and restful place.)

Fly high and keep pointing at the sky champ!!
Jamie

Oh man......Just heard.

how sad....

Will say a special prayer for his family, even though its very late.:engel016:

Mike was supposed to be a beta tester on the upcoming Super Cub, and this explains the silence. Extremely sad news indeed, and a great loss. I'll miss his posts, and presence in the forums. A really great guy. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Mike

So sad to hear this Caz. With his Cajun humour he made us all smile.

R.I.P Pointy

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth.
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings,
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace,
Where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
And, while with silent, lifting mind i've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee Jr.

RIP Pointy31

I can't remember any encounter with him that didn't show him to be a man if true upstanding character. His presence here will be truly missed.

Here's my Pointy Memorial Flight screen shot. An unfinished paint for the Long Island Classics Champ. I will finish this in Pointy's memory.

This is very sad! Pointy was only 62! Can't believe he's gone...He was a great guy with great humor.
We've lost a very fine member on this forum. I really am in tears...I wish his family the best in coping with this loss.

i'm flying 'missing man' formation with my Formation of bush aircraft in his memory, you'll be sorely missed Pointy, make sure you show them how we bush fly back down here, "guys to Pointy, one heck of an aviator, friend, family member, the low skies won't be the same without him..." may you rest in piece friend :ernae:

Very sad news, nevertheless thanks for informing us Cazzie.

Pointy will definitely be missed.

I have finished the unfinished paint for the LIC Aeronca 7AC Champ....it's a tongue in cheek tribute to Pointy. When I think Cajun, three things come to mind: the beautiful Louisiana swamps, alligators and eating crawfish. The finished paint takes a slightly askew glance at the Cajun culture....I think Pointy would approve.

I will get this paint uploaded as soon as I test it on all the variants of the LIC Champ...I did it on the float version, just want to make sure it work fully on the others.

Mike and I had some great chats... about Champs an' all dem tin 'Cajun'...
While some of you have likely seen this... some of his Cajun humour on a day when we really do need a chuckle..

7 DEGREES OF CAJUN

FIRST DEGREE

Boudreaux and his wife were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning. Boudreaux picked up the phone, listened a moment and said "How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up. The wife said, "Who was that?" Boudreaux answered, "I don't know, some man wanting to know if the coast is clear."

SECOND DEGREE
Two Cajuns are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. He opens it, looks in the mirror and says, "Hmm, this person looks familiar." The second Cajun says, "Here, let me see!" So the first Cajun hands him the compact. The second one looks in the mirror and says, "You dummy, it's me!"

THIRD DEGREE
Boudreaux suspects his wife of cheating on him, so he goes out and buys a gun. He goes to his house unexpectedly and when he opens the door he finds her in the arms of a redhead. Well, Boudreaux is really angry. He pulls out the gun, and as he does so, he is overcome with grief. He takes the gun and puts it to his head. His wife yells, "No, honey, don't do it!!!" Boudreaux replies, "Shut up, you're next!"

FOURTH DEGREE
Boudreaux was bragging about his knowledge of state capitals. He proudly says, "Go ahead, and ask me, I know all of them." A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin ?" Boudreaux replies, "Oh, that's easy: W."

FIFTH DEGREE

What did the Cajun girl ask her doctor when he told her she was pregnant? "Is it mine?"

SIXTH DEGREE
Boudreaux, a Cajun in his fourth year as a LSU Freshman, sat in his US government class. The professor asked Boudreaux if he knew what Roe vs. Wade was about. Boudreaux pondered the question then finally said, "That was the decision George Washington had to make before he crossed the Delaware "

SEVENTH DEGREE
Returning home from work, Boudreaux was shocked to find his house ransacked and burglarized. He telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby, was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, Boudreaux ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps. Putting his face in his hands, Boudreaux moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman."

So long Mike! We'll miss you and remember you forever.

Rob
