Classics Hangar Fw190 released!

For those who want it; I have just uploaded the "original" historical correct tail marking (Swastika) for the Classics Wings Focke Wulf FW190 by Alessandro Biagi. The marking fits all German liveries. To install; just replace the original texture in the texture folders from the various liveries by the texture included in this zip-file.

As soon as it is avialable I will add the link.

I find the RealFlight Hellcat to be an excellent aircraft that I completely enjoy. As far as flying it "by the numbers"......I just set the MAP and prop pitch by my pilot manual numbers. Seems to work just fine for me. But then again, like a lot of people, I've never flown the real thing. It's one of my top five favorite FSX birds: (1) A2A Jug, (2) Classic Hangar Fw-190, (3) RealFlight F6F Hellcat, (4) RealAir Spittie, (5) Flight Replica's Cub and Me-262. Those are my top 5; to each there own.
 
Huub, just a heads up, Alessandro Biagi has uploaded the Swastika at Avsim and I have an upload doing the same thing here. I did not include the white border version so that would be a good addition.

Watch the prop pitch on the corresponding gauge at the lower right panel doing it's work and best leave both pitch and rpm alone from user input, the plane will take care of it for you.

Ok, I've been playing with it a bit more, but I'm not sure I understand. Isn't the purpose of the auto pitch mechanism to change engine rpm with throttle? It doesn't work like that on mine. My engine always runs at which ever rpm my prop pitch lever is set to. You recommend to leave it alone, but then it always stays at 1500, or 2500, depending on whether I leave it forward, or leave it back.

With other auto prop aircraft, like the Realair Spitfire, the rpm changes with throttle as long as the pitch lever is forward, so perhaps I need to set my 190 to auto? I searched the manual but cannot find a way to do so, which leavse me confused about what I'm missing.
 
SolarEagle, I'm interested in this issue as well. I believe the FW 190 has a constant speed prop, which is governed by the Kommondagerat, Here's some info from pilotfriend.com:

"A constant speed propeller allows the engine to develop maximum rated power and rpm during the ground roll and to develop full power throughout its normal rpm range. With a constant speed propeller the pilot controls inlet manifold air pressure [MAP] with the throttle lever and the engine rpm with the rpm control lever or knob/switches. The pilot has several combinations of rpm/MAP to achieve a particular power setting. For example, in one particular aircraft, the recommended combinations for 65% power at sea level are 2100 rpm + 26 inches Hg MAP or 2200 + 25 inches or 2300 + 24 inches or 2400 + 23 inches. So you can use low rpm and high MAP or high rpm and low MAP to achieve exactly the same power output. The low rpm / high MAP combination probably gives more efficient cylinder charging and better combustion plus less friction. The high MAP also acts as a cushion in the cylinders, reducing engine stress. MAP is usually measured in inches of mercury [Hg] rather than hectopascals. Standard sea level barometric pressure is 29.92 inches Hg or 1013.2 hPa."

What's puzzling to me is the proper usage of FSX's prop pitch controls in light of this set-up in the 190. Where in the cockpit are the controls, if there are any, to manually adjust prop pitch before leaving it to the Kommondagerat? Otherwise for take-off and beyond, my rpm is always at about 2500.

If I understand Mathias' advice (and the manual) correctly, we do nothing about it at all - just set the MP and let the FW do the rest.
 
That's the way I interpret his advice but wonder if the intention is that the resultant engine rpms always be at 2500...wouldn't that be counter-productive to long engine life?

And there is that cockpit switch to control the prop manually or auto...when should that come into play?
 
Hi guys,
as I said early, it's either this way or that way in FSX.
With a variable pitch prop you get fixed rpm.
Works on the Fw190 like an all other aircraft in FSX inclusive A2A Jug and RealFlight Kitty. The Realair Spit acts physically like a fixed pitch prop, apparently the developers have used other methods to fake around game limititations, and that's what we're really talking about.
The Fw190's Kommandogerät would indeed adjust the rpm in the range 2100-2700rpm in real life at normal operation but since we can't have that accurately modelled the airfile is set up to develope correct power curves at fixed rpm.
The control to adjust prop pitch and along with it obviously also affects rpm is located at the throttle btw.

Unfortunately you can't switch the both modes in FS, see my reply above, that's why it's non functional.
Maybe we find a way in the future when we get more used to external dll kungfu
When it comes into play on the real plane is at startup where you would switch to manual to save the prop hydraulic from damage due to cold liquids.

It turns out the server I'm on lacks some CURL components so no automatic redirect.
