comptuer constantly crashes

(bump) For Joker...I got to wondering what became of his problem. Joker...you there? Hope everything's OK :)

I hope I didn't scare him off... but he did mention something about having the Geek Squad see what they could do so maybe he's out of commission for the time being..

still here

Hi friends;
I'm still here. It is just that I have been sidetracked with work..(that's a good thing) I promise I will get back to this problem solving once things settle down. My new RAM came in but haven't had time to even open the package. Soon. I would not leave all of you in the lurch after you all have been so helpful. I will report on success or failure soon.

For most of you that don't know, I am a commercial photographer and I am presently filming a documentary about the POW/MIA flag and it's designer, here in the States. Already completed filming in Colorado and then off to Virginia soon for more filming. Then it is several months of tough editing. Maybe you all will be interested in the final product. Some of the filming was of a 6 year "guest" of the Hanoi Hilton. It was riveting testimony but hard to get thru. One Vietnam Veteran on the set had to leave the room as it became too difficult for him. I will have links up soon on my website but not just yet. If you all want to check in, you are welcome. It will be listed at w w w dot sjbaraophoto dot com. More later folks. Sorry if I got a little off topic here.

Oh yeah, the infamous Geek Squad from Best Buy? Would those be the same guys who when I diagnosed a friend's computer (which was under a Best Buy warranty) as having a bad optical drive, replaced the one that was working just fine?? Complicated process too evidently, as she didn't get the tower back for a week and a half.

My guess is he's out of commission, or lying dead on the floor at Best Buy from a lethal attack of exasperation.

Cheers,

Parky

I'm baaaaaaaack

Hello folks.....Finally got a little time today. Took out my old RAM (which I don't think was bad anyhow) Installed new RAM and booted up. All fine. System showed 2 Gigs RAM. Played OFF...Crashed right away.

Shut down, installed another 2 GIGS of brand new RAM. System showed 2.5 Gigs RAM..Weird eh....Since I have now put in 4 Gigs..I thought Win XP should show 3.5 Gigs.????? I dunno. Anyhow, booted OFF. Crashed.

All other programs at this point are fine. So,,,IT AIN't THE RAM! I did go into the BIOS and looked at the RAM settings....SLI RAM is set to "Disable" I left it because I didn't know what to do on that. The only other options there were to set it for either 105 percent, or click on "expert"

Folks, there is only ONE thing left before I hang this up. Total reinstall of CFS3 and OFF and all patches in the proper order and also looking in the registry first to clean out old stuff after the uninstalls..This is the most logical thing it could be and unfortunately the last thing I am trying after all this frustration.

FYI. Many months ago, I installed CFS3 and uninstalled it because I was not into it that much...Wonder if it indeed left some stuff residing on the computer. Will give it another go.

Joker...

Bummer...in spades. The only thing you haven't tried short of fresh reinstall of XP - and what I'd do in your shoes at this point - is uninstallng SP3 and run with SP2. The process is simple based on the M$ procedure link I posted. If that doesn't work...well...I don't even want think about it...

Yeah O50, crazy eh? I dunno why I keep putting off the obvious first...Reinstall the sims again...That is my goal this weekend. At that point, I would not revert back to SP2 or do the system re-install unless all my other sims were doing the same thing, which they are not. Everything else runs perfectly....keeps pointing to the OFF install maybe..Will report in later on this weekend hopefully.
