Computer HD question

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
Looks like I might be getting a new internal HD. I am rather ignorant about this part of computers but my MB is a Winfast 6150K8MD with the following detail,
Connectivity

2 Parallel ATA port supporting 4 IDE Drives

4 Serial ATA ports

1 Gigabit Ethernet Port

With one HD in it now I need to know what spec'd interface I should look for. Most I have looked at spec Serial ATA which I assume would work.

Hi,

SATA is your best choice .. certainly if your actual HD is a SATA.
You can mix ATA-SATA .. but it's sometime configurations problems in the BIO

SATA has to be the way to go, actually standard IDE are relatively difficult to get now. Worth checking to make sure your power supply actually has SATA leads, otherwise you may need to get an adaptor.

I ended up ordering a Seagate-Barracuda 1TB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive. My hope is to get this to eventually be the new C drive and do a full XP install (my current one has issues). Then I can do a reasonably quick bring-up-to-speed addition of all that other 'stuff'. I hear about software that can clone over everything from the old C to the new one, but I don't want to bring the gremlins too. This has been 2 years in the waiting so hope it all works out.

Well wouldn't you know it. After doing a parallel install of XP Pro (different story) on the new HD, which worked fine but I don't much like Pro, the XP Home side got corrupted. So no e-mail, programs, work connections, nada (borrowing the wifes). I've got files and FS stuff safely on an external but I just went through a re-install and..:censored::banghead::tgun2: MS/computers/technical things. Might turn out to be something I did but if the MS IT lady had sent me the XP Home disk like I asked for I could shrug it off and just start to re-build. So the G$$ks have it now.
