Confused about the 486th Fighter Squadron...

Charter Member
Trying to install all items for the 486th Campaign and lost my FDG2 P51-b & Bullfrog, when I tried to add textures for the 352nd. Any help would be appreaciated

E.F..............

Lets' back up here.
First did you have a flyable FDG2_P51? Did you take a file named "356" and add it to the aircraft file and lose the plane the original plane?
If so, then you may have erred in that. Re-install your original FDG2_p51. Then open the "356" zip and copy the texture therein to a temp file. Then rename that temp. texture to something like "texture.356". Then copy that to your FDG2_P51 aircraft folder.
Now open the .cfg in the zip and copy the contents of the .cfg and then open the .cfg in you FDG2_P51 folder and paste that copied contents info there. Make sure that you change the number in the heading from "0" to "1" in the added text. Within the added text make a entry after "texture" to whatever you named the added texture ie; "356".
I posted some "read-me's" I have over at the "Gedm"s" slot in the Forum. Read them they may be relevant for you.

Also suggest you also read Jaxons' site here; http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/CFS2_Tips.html

Thanks, I got the planes working by copying and pasting to make new plane. So now instead of one plane with several textures, I have a separate plane per texture(doesn't work like FSX I learning). I will check out Jaxon's maybe I'll get it....

Add more folders in CFS2

...I have a separate plane per texture(doesn't work like FSX I learning).......

Hi Easy Flyer!

Even if you can have a single plane with multiple textures, which will show up as a separate planes anyway, in my past experience I found this is always the best solution, as multiple textures for the same plane will create problems when flying missions.

It's also the best way to hit the limit number of installed aircrafts very quickly, but there's a solution to it. Just make several folders, organised exactly as CFS2 root \AIRCRAFT folder, simply with different folder names.

Like "\Aircraft_356thFG_ETO" for example.

You can store your new folders within CFS2 root, CFS2 will ignore anything that has a different name from the legacy, stock folders and/or files. When you need to fly these aircrafts, all you have to do is rename the root \AIRCRAFT folder differently and your extra folder \AIRCRAFT.
Just make sure that all of the planes listed in your QC file appear in your new folder and you should not encounter any problem flying the mission requiring the extra planes.

Cheers!

confused 486th Fighter Squadron

Just got through loading(4days it took to get it all) 486th Fighter Squadron, and can't find any campaign. The first missions kept looking for Japanese aircraft, thought this was for the ETO. Says I'm missing AI bombs???

For all the time I got in this not worth it when can't even fly a mission. Don't see but 7 p-47 missions, no Y-29

Easy Flier,

The AI bombs I can help you find, but could you please be more specific? For example...

Are you using version one by 486_Col_Wolf or version two by Rami?

What Japanese aircraft is it looking for?

Are you using the expanded country.cfg so that the missions fall under an American US Air Force nationality?

The more details you can provide, the easier it will be to help you!

Are you using version one by 486_Col_Wolf or version two by Rami? It is your updated one...

What Japanese aircraft is it looking for? All the stock ones that I removed

Are you using the expanded country.cfg so that the missions fall under an American US Air Force nationality? Have to check that one

The more details you can provide, the easier it will be to help you!

Easy Flier,

AI bombs (B-24): http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file=b24d_bombs.zip&fileId=32750

AI bombs (B-25): http://simviation.com//1/download-fi...p&fileId=32749

Download both sets, just in case.

Expanded country.cfg file: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=17&id=17924

Also, why is it looking for the Japanese planes? One important key to remember is that if you remove those aircraft, you have to make sure to alias the planes and sounds to another aircraft. The default "fallback" for third-party aircraft is the A6M Zero, especially for panels and sounds if the aircraft is not equipped with its own.

That MAY be a reason why it is looking for them. I know they are not used in the campaign.

Please continue to post questions...

See pics..the mission says watch for the Japanese???

Everytime it ask for a Japanese plane I just add it back in,as I have replaced all the sound folders..

I inatually cleaned all aircraft, missions and campaigns out, should I add them all back?

Something else I noticed in a QC flight that I could get to work that my plane P-38 kept stalling out and could never get close to the enemy, which was a fw190. Something wrong with that I believe..

Easy Flier,

1) What pics?

2) Details...WHICH aircraft?

3) Details...WHICH mission(s)?

4) Did you use the revised files for the P-38 Lightning which correct the airfile and aircraft performance?

And...are you using the revised country.cfg file that I linked you to, which provides more than four entries in the country.cfg file?

P.S. - I'm going to dinner with my wife, I'll be back about 8pm EST.

Rami...ef...

I just looked at that campaigns required aircraft. They are aliased to the stock A6M_Zero. So if EF does not have anymore stock aircratf he won't have any planes. EF, go to the "fownloads" and find the appropiate sounds for those aircraft and put them in the respective planes sound folder.

Bingo!

Perhaps this is time to resurrect this thread to assist our friend, Easy Flier here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...sounds/page2&highlight=aircraft+engine+sounds

LOL...My wife is GLARING at me, NOW it's off to dinner. :redfire:

BTW; did you read the .txts' that I attached in the Gedm's thread? One says to remove the *.*. Index files in your CFS2 install and they will rebuild when you start the game. They then will reflect what is in the game install.

Easyflier,

Thank you for the pictures. Okay, now we're getting somewhere.

1) The P-47 "Japanese" missions are something that entirely slipped my mind. Yes, the FDGv2 P-47 originally came with a set of Japanese missions. Since you are running the installer into your CFS2 installation, there is cause one. You can get rid of those missions since you're flying the ETO.

So for the first one, my bad...:p87:

2) If you looked in the section of the readme where I have the "Misc" section, you'll see this.

You will need the UIRES screens for the US Army Air Corps
Location: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=17&id=6333

Make sure that you change the allegiance in Ajax’s country.cfg download from this:

[country.3]
name=USA
short_name=USA
nationality=American
heading=oclock

To this:

[Country.7]
name=US Army Air Corps
short_name=USA
nationality=American USAAC
heading=oclock

That way, the UIRES screens show up in the proper location!

To elaborate, I make a distinction between the "3" nationality (US Navy) and the "7" nationality. (US Army Air Corps)

When CFS2 first came out, it had only four nations; Britain, Germany, the US Navy, and Japan. The first major freeware release, "In Defense of Australia," saw a modification which expanded this original list to a total of nineteen countries. So that's why the instructions above are important. If you don't have the US Army Air Corps settings in your country.cfg correct, the missions won't display, because it's listed under a nationality that doesn't "exist."

If you'd like, you can copy this example from mine...and make sure you place the UIRES bitmaps from the download link above into your UIRES folder in your CFS2 installation.

Replace this...

[Country.7]
name=US Army Air Corps
short_name=USA
nationality=American USAAC
heading=oclock

With this...

[Country.7]
name=US Army Air Corps
short_name=USA
nationality=American USAAC
heading=oclock

Easy Flier,

Those downloads allow you your choice of more authentic / historically accurate skins for the aircraft that you are downloading, or they contain modifications to those aircraft. When you download skins, you want to replace the texture files found in the original folder with the textures in the repaint folder. (Or, ONE of your choice, anyway)

For other modifications, such as the Axis bomber .dp files, you want to replace the .dp file in the original download with the one from that package, following any specific instructions for other things you might need.

If I can help you locate anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
