• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

    The Staff of SOH

  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Could we be informed about the whereabouts of the attachments?

Last I heard from Ickie on the subject was that the forum software has a limit of 75 gig in attachments. If we exceed that, the forums dump all of the attachments. My guess is that they're gone.

gotta agree and as Pink Floyd so brilliantly put: "The Lunatic is on the Grass...." :wavey:

ooh Nigels opened the Guinness..... 0826GMT... yeah i make that Guinness o'clock! :guinness:

",,,remembering games, and daisy chains and laughs,
got to keep the loonies on the path..."

Matt you nutta, that wasn't Guinness, it was a good old Greek Frappe I was handing to Cees.
Just couldn't find the frappe icon....remind me to make a purpose-built attachment.
Oops!

What bothers me is the silence that's around what seems to be a bigger issue than we can guess. First there's the library that is 'gone' , then the forums are 'strange' for a couple of days, and now the attachments are 'gone'? As a member of a member owned site I'd like to be informed as to what caused this and how bad the damage is. Make no mistake, I apppreciate the hard work that's put in this site, but would like to have some more information. This thread is now one day old, Nigels thread about the fish is three days old, and still we know nothing and there is very little response to what is brought up here......

Cees

I guess it all has to do with an update that has messed things up?

Cees

Cees, obviously updates often bring more with them than just what you expect. Especially software which can be set up completely to the wishes of the user, like in this case. As you know SOH is run by volunteers and that is why it often takes some time before somebody can react.
As soon as the problem is noticed, it will take some tome before the cause of the problem can be identified. When the cause has been identified it might take some time to assess the consequences and to check whether things can be solved or reversed. The guys who run the technical side of the SOH are not in the same location and sometimes even "hours apart" as they are in different timezones. This doesn't always contribute to a quick reaction time.

Problems like these cause the sometimes long period between the moment a problem has been detected and the time there is an "official" reaction.

Cheers,
Huub

I recall that my attachments languished long past the date they were supposed to be automatically deleted. Even went and manually deleted them yet they still popped up in that attachment dialogue box. One day not long ago they were finally gone, I now think along with the Great Purge of 2012.

Housekeeping is Always Good

I just checked ... I am shocked that I had 25 pages of Inbox and Outbox messages since last August (Grumman and Avia Projects mainly). At 50 messages per page, that's a bunch. All now deleted.

Just a reminder to clean out your Inbox and Sent Items messages periodically to help keep things tidy and humming along.

Focus forward ... renew, refresh, enjoy the sunshine. :)

None taken, my friend.:wavey:

Humour is one of frustration's most powerful antidotes, and has usually served me well.
fortunately, it serves you very well, indeed.
keep up the good work.

for me,
sometimes the magic works,
sometimes it does not.

i have to add,
i am very sorry that you
and the other tutorial authors
have lost your good work.
i sincerely hope that this episode
will not dissuade your future efforts.
many thanks, in advance

now, if you will excuse me,
i need to go kick the dog.
his snoring keeps waking me up.

Good stuff :salute: Brings back memories of my crazy college days :icon29:

or...

O.K.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more,
ahhhhhhhahhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.

...."that'll get you going for the show... C'mon, it's time to go".

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)... BB686:USA-flag:

nothing to be sorry for, BB.
no need to resist,
resistance is futile.

C'mon, it's time to go

Okay, so we've all found our real attachments...

Smilo, BB686, Maarten, Milton, Cees, Matt, huub vink, Willy, aeromed202....all of you amazing people;

Where else would you see such a positive turnaround such as this?

We lose a few pics, have a good old grumble and wind up singing together.
(Smilo; the magic is not mine, its working just fine for all of us, you too Sir)

I guess the only real attachments we'll ever need around SOH are eachother.

Smilo; there's been no real harm done and yes, we'll all be posting up a whole new crop of pics with which to wow one, another.

So may I remind all you great people of a note that seems to bind us all together here...

Into the distance - a ribbon of black,
stretched to the point of no turning back.

A flight of fancy, on a windswept field,
standing alone, my sense is real.

A fatal attraction, is holding me fast,
how can I escape its irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky,
Tongue-tied and twisted - just an Earth-bound misfit, I...

I guess we need to go back to periodically reminding people to clean out their attachments.

No single person was responsible for the overload of attachments. Everyone who uses that feature made some contribution to it. I suspect very few of us go back into their attachments to do some periodic pruning.

Let's please keep this civil.
