Credit card hacked

For the second time in the last six months the credit card I use for purchasing my FSX airplanes has been hacked. I only use this card for buying planes, not for anything else. I have bought four planes since December first. Somebody's site is not safe. I got a call today to verify some internet charges...all bad--over $2000. Of course, I don't have to pay them. But it is costing lots of money due to these thefts.
I have a PayPal account, but used my card directly for the last purchases. I believe PayPal is the safe way to go and will use it in the future. Unless anyone has had similar problems with them. (No, I don't work for PayPal.)

Your correct i had the same problem and reporeted on an other thread Very dissapointing :mixedsmi:

I've had trouble with PayPal. Having investigated and had dealings with their less public side, my advice is that they're crooked as hell, utterly uncontrolled, unregulated, untrustworthy and avoid unless absolutely necessary.

Others disagree!

I've heard this too...I still use it out of laziness, but I monitor my charges like a hawk just in case.

I don't quite buy it that ya'll get hacked by FS vendors.
You shure you don't have a rootkit on your PC?

I'd check to see which vendors do actually hold your CC details on file but most use 3rd party gateways so as to avoid this.

Most if not all systems these days store card numbers split in at least two different places, regardless of wether a gateway is used or the card is processed directly by the shop. I think the only way to get your credit card hacked is a.) by a criminal vendor (unlikely me thinks) or b.) by tracking malware (most likely the case).

I am uncomfortable with companies holding my card in memory. They could get hacked just as well. Even Bank of America gets hacked and lose data about customers, accounts, cards, etc. (Just watched it again on the news last week).

I am also a PayPal user and its been fine for me so far.

I was looking into authorize.net and there system seems to be pretty secure regarding of what details are stored and whats not.

But I agree, backdoors and rootkits are most probably the cause.

You can get pay as you go credit cards these days. I've been thinking about getting one myself.
Only put what your going to spend on it when your going to spend it, that way if it gets hacked there's nothing to steal.

Sounds like a good idea. In all my many years (I'm old) I have never had any problems like this. It has been quite a shock. I think I will go to my bank and set up something like this. Thanks for the advice.:salute:

Use only IE8 with InPrivate navigation when use money or other privacy navigations

And don't forget to use an good: Firewall+Anti-virus+Anti-Spyware or All 3 in one "Internet Security"

And never use 2 softwares with same protect functions

(shut down the native windows firewall and use other - any other is better, but don't forgot to use any one)

And use software to clean your PC. example: PC Cleaner is freeware

I have used paypal for 10 years and never had a problem. If a company does not accept paypal then I do not buy and I tell them so and I also tell them someday they too will see the light, lol
Many have come around to paypal.

I only use this computer for SOH and almost never go else ware except real trusted websites.

I have another computer I use for surfing the web. I reformat every 6 months both computers to be safe and have peace of mind.
All my security is on high.

We run SOH the same way, high security and always keep things updated.

every time i use paypal
i get a phony email asking me to update my account
then i get a real one with a receipt
fortunately the card i use has a zero balance
until i put money into the account
so if there is a problem they tell me strait away

Everybody gets those fake paypal emails, unfortunately some people fall for it. I have used paypal since 2001 and never had a problem with it other than its terrible policies.

I also use my cc all the time and somewhat recklessly at times. I think if your CC is being hacked and you're only using it for FS purchases than you could possibly have a trojan logging and sending out your personal info and unfortunately Anti Virus software doesn't pick up even close to everything, at least not until the virus has been out for a while and they have had time to figure out how to disable it.

Just my opinion.
