Cri-cri props

Hello all. This little guy works great in FSX. Tried to adjust Alpha channel to almost black. Props look good from outside, but not inside. ALL textures on only 2 bitmaps. Any suggestions?

The prop discs are part of the mdl file. . .nothing can be done to fix the props. I really enjoyed that airplane and normally minor prop problems don't bother me, but that one just got the best of me, it was too pronounced to ignore after awhile.:salute:

Well, that sucks. I am going to try to just remove the props from the texture bitmaps and see what happens! Maybe something else will come to mind as well.

Thank you Falcon409

Let me know how that works out. I like that little airplane a lot, but having to look at those discs from the VC all the time was just annoying, lol:salute:

OK, I am as dense as a bowling ball and just as sharp. Is it possible in Photoshop to change a texture to; say white, and then a set white as a transparency? I was thinking if changing the prop textures from silver to white and then setting white as a transparent color. I almost got it, but am not sure sure what I am doing in Photoshop. Any help here?

I just went back on one of my DVD's and reloaded the Cri-Cri. There are only two textures for that airplane and neither one of them have a prop blur or anything that can be adjusted to clear the prop showing as a disc in the VC. There is a possibility that playing with the materials settings in the model file could produce something usable, but I would think that by now someone would have done that and posted the fix and that hasn't happened. The other thing that I remembered after reloading it was that it had no pilot. Right up there with no VC as a reason I pass on some airplanes. Granted you won't find many that don't have a pilot, but the few that are that way I pass on. So no pilot and two solid discs in the VC and now I realized why it didn't last long.

I have the cricri_develop.zip file which includes the Gmax file as well as the .xls for the Jerry Beckwith FDWB for the Cri Cri.
If you would like it to modify then PM me with your e-mail address & I will send to you. I have done a web search & can no longer find the Cri Cri site or any trace of the develop file.
It does have a working VC in both FS9 & FSX, although as you say the props from the VC are solid in FSX, but not externally.

Now why did I not see that.....must be going blind as well as daft!!! Its probably the one that I d/led from initially!
I am in the process of putting a pilot in the exterior view, but am having a little difficulty in exporting her at the moment. I am also experimenting with the prop texture. Anyway its keeping me amused at the moment....onwards & upwards...

Well, I was able to get the props to a very light grey (not sure how I did it). Will continue to try to make them disappear. I am not sure how it's going to affect the rest of the .bmp. Nothing else looked changed that I noticed.

I think I'll try to make the prop disks a pure green and create an alpha channel the makes pure green transparent. We'll see.

Looking forward to any improvements you can pass along Keith. Thanks for the effort.:salute:

I need to remember how old I am and keep my mouth shut til I actually try to fix something myself. Added a darkened greyscale version of the prop discs (which I told Dan it lacked any at all) as an alpha for that texture sheet, saved as 32 bit and. . . . . . .

With what I got by adding the alpha, I'm thinking that substituting a nice FSX prop blur and associated alpha might actually render a decent prop effect....hmmmm

Well done Falcon,
Saves me doing that bit, so I will concentrate on the Pilot & keep you posted!

Thanks Keith. . .it get's even better. Below are the two updated trial textures. I took the J-3 Cub prop blur that BananaBob produced, cut and pasted the base texture over the ones with the purple tips, then took the corresponding alpha's for Bob's blur and pasted those on a separate layer over the base texture. Saved the texture back to the texture folder and then saved just the alpha layer as a standard bitmap, loaded the texture back into DXTbmp, imported the alpha, saved the whole thing as a 32bit texture and the result, is a very nice prop animation from the VC...really looks nice. The exterior looks the same as the previous shots above, so I'm thinking the other texture is probably for the external view and I'll just repeat the previous steps for that texture as well and I should get a similar result for the exterior view. (I hope), lol.....

By George, I think we've got it, lol. The animation is less obvious for some reason, but maybe someone else might know what governs the external view animation and if it's something than can be adjusted. At any rate, there is now animation both in the VC view and the external view. I was so excited that I took her up for a short flight around my home airports. I'm even reviving a hi-res livery I did for it a long time ago. That's for tonight though. It's 2:45am in North Texas and I have to be up by 7:30 to take care of my ex-Mother-In-Law (88) and my 4 month old Great Granddaughter. yeee hawwww, lol:salute:

You are "THE MAN" Falcon409:salute: Thank you for not giving up. Of course, I REALLY need to learn Photoshop!!!

ps. Any hi-res paints up your sleeve that you are willing to share is totally bonus! Make the little guy less cartoonish.

Three :guinness: for you!

Daniel

Just glad it worked for ya. Along with this, the prospect of possibly getting a pilot in the cockpit really brings this back to life.
