CTDs

Hi All. Hope youse is enjoyin' da summah! I have a recurring problem. I've reinstalled this particular campaign numerous times and still come up with the same problem. Please note that I've been super careful to get the install correct.....hopefully I've done that.

I go to campaigns, pick my country, etc. then go the first mission, advanced info no prob, get the right aircraft, then when I hit the fly now button I get a CTD. I'm using Rami's Master ETO Airbases.dat file so that can't be the problem. I'm stumped.

I have another similar problem with another campaign and that is when I go to add pilot to start the campaign, I get an error message, 'error loading, etc.' and the campaign won't load at all.

Having mentioned these issues, I must tell you that I run a number of successful campaigns on the same and other installs, so can't figure out just what the heck I've done wrong.

Does anybody have any ideas on this? I'd sure appreciate a wee bit o' help........I'm startin' ta git itchy all over and....uh... that's not a good thing. :sheep:

Alpha_1,

A couple of questions...

1) Which campaign is it, so we can avoid a "Who's on first?" type of thread.

2) When you say you're using my airbase.dat, you have just copied an pasted the information, correct?

3) If you used my airbase.dat, did you remember to leave the marker () at the end of the .dat file?

Some clarity would help here...

Hi Rami. Copied and pasted the ETO airbases.dat master file, yup. The campaign in question is Mosquito Squadron.

The other one is the RCAF but I'm wondering if there's an issue with the Canadian Screens and stuff, though I've checked and double checked the country.cfg, etc. and everything matches up.

Yo alpha_1;

Open the main CFS2 folder & look for the error.LOG file. This is where CFS2 will tell you what it's unhappy about & often the reason for the CTD. (or at least a clue)

If you are getting all the way to opening the mission, the first thing I would look for is an error in the runway data.

Check the runway data in the mission file against the entry for the same runway in the runway.dat .

Dirtman...

Have you ever had a CTD and cfs2 not generate a error log?....just curious, 'cause I did once and fired the game up a day later and everything was okay:isadizzy:

Jeepers guys.......never event thought about that. I'll check and get back to you on this. I hafta tell ya, this becomes severely annoying. I'm not new to this game and ah'm a'gettin' itchy all over again!

Will let you know what I find out, thanks

'k......found it.......what 'xactly does this mean?

[Mission file error]
error=Unable to init unit 9201
title=RCAF_01 The first mission of Red Bat Sqn
filename=K:\Program Files\CFS2_Europe_Other\CAMPAIGNS\typhcmpg1

Alpha_1,

I think I may have an inkling as to what the problem is, I will examine it in the next day or two.

a) dunno
b) can't remember
c) too many beers
d) all of the above

Actually yes ... but not all errors are logged into the error.dat. Usually just missing object (or objects) the program can't load due to a variety of reasons.

It means that the sim is unable to initialize (load) unit 9201 in the mission file

Post a copy of the typhcmpg1 mission file here & I'll show you what it means and how to find the problem.

I took a look at the Typhoon campaign, mission one and it looks like Unit 4, id=9201 refers back to type=id3944.

That is the Typhoon aircraft.

Given that it's the primary player's aircraft in the campaign, my guess would be the usual suspects:

1. Sound file alias is a dead end and needs to be edited to something you have or a good Griffen sound file added.

If you are using Blin's Typhoon (per the readme file), it is aliased to the F4U1A_Corsair. Check and see if you still have it in your aircraft folder.

If you are using the Burnage V2 Typhoon, I think that it came with a good Griffen sound file, so this would not be the problem with Burnage's Typhoon.

2. The DP file has a problem. Check to see if you have all the weapons that it calls for.

I checked the loadouts on the aircraft and they're all there. Also I've used the gryphon sound for all my Tiffs, the one in the RCAF mission as well. I CAN fly all the missions in this campaign but only as missions, not a campaign.

The Mosquito Squadron Campaign won't load at all once I'm ready to fly....can't even fly a mission seperately. I'll check out the error.log file for this one as well and get back to you guys. Thanks for your input and your patience on this.

The plot thickens ......

a) there is a problem with either the Campaign CMG or the first mission in the campaign folder.

- copy the working mission(s) into the campaign folder & retest

b) your Canadian Nationality screenpack is missing a screen for campaign mode

- I have run into this problem before. What screenpack are you using? Is it new?
- The only CDN pack that I knew of was fairly old and missing a few screens.

The screenpack I'm using is the only one I could find.....RCAF_Woody's cfscdnx.zip and you're right, it has no campaign loading screen. As I mentioned earlier, the missions all work on a single mission basis.

Is there some kind of work-around for this situation?

You say you've checked the country.cfg. Does the number in the Canadian country.X match the number in the allegiance=X in the dp's of the aircraft?

I don't know about that, however I DO know that the country.cfg allegiance matches that of all the missions and the .cmp file so the problem doesn't seem to be there

Alpha_1,

There have been a few users who have had difficulty with these two campaigns. I will be working on them ASAP and will find a solution for you.

Now I need to see your country.cfg section for CDN
