DC-2 X Released!

American Airlines Flag zip

@Rob,
Thanks. Here is a zip of the dc2_flag for the American Airlines bird. As a 7 and 8 year old I used to watch the American DC-3s come and go. The poor copilot had to erect that flag sun, rain or snow while taxiing in. I thought it was way cool to see the airplane roll up at the gate flying the flag. That is why they call them Flagships.

Wonderful Package

Just picked up this wondeful package yesterday. Looking at the names of the people involved I knew it would be nice but, even so, I was surprised by just how nice the FSX DC2 is. Congratulations to the whole team.

Now, I must confess, I had a prang on my first flight. :redf:

"The review board ruled it pilot error. The board determined in the pilot's haste to go for a joy ride in a new DC2, he did not read the Pilot's Operating Manual prior to takeoff. As a result, flaps were deployed well above the max IAS resulting in a hydraulics failure and ultimately the collapse of the starboard main gear upon landing. As the pilot had some influence with the board, his ticket was not pulled but he was strongly admonished. Further, he is not permitted to enter the DC2 again until having read the P.O.M. thoroughly."
Seriously though, there are so many great touches like the damaged prop modelling. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and know I still have more to discover. (And yes, I've had my first pass through the manual now.)

Cheers,
Rick

That's a cool livery in that last one. It's funny how FSX makes Vatican City look like it's located out on some rolling farmland, though. :icon_lol:

I was only looking at the plane:kilroy:

Nice comment on your blog Bill,
Those Dutch modeling maniacs who call themselves the “Uiver Team”
I love that!

One quick question before I buy... does the dc-2 get good framerates?

I didn't notice a hit, at all.

For reference.. it's easier on the CPU than a lot of payware; especially considering the quality of the model. That might be one of its better qualities.. VERY efficiently modeled.

Of course it's impossible to predict how your system will handle it, but if you can run the default models well.. this should run well too.

No glass panels at all, so that saves a few frames.. ;)

I found it performs much the same as most of the default (Except the glass panel ones) and there's virtually no loading time of textures when switching to the cockpit.

Probably going to buy the plane this week...Just out of curiosity; How many pages is the Operating Manual?

Steve

37 pages for the FsX DC-2, 35 for the real DC-2 POH (Included!) and 10 more for the Simflyer gauges, and three instruction videos from Simflyer as well.

:)

As one of the testers/contributors.
Pls read it especially about how to use the engines. Not that durable at that times:pop4:

How's the VC on this one? The external looks very neat but I've seen only very few VC shots. And the one from the official site show some low res textures in the VC (writing and lableing for example) but that's hard to judge by the smaller screenshots there.

There is a big improvement on the VC textures and overhead panel.
You probably saw the FS9 screenshots

The Old style radios in the VC: Day, Night, Spotlight

The plane also features a model with modern Avionics set, as featured in the Aviodrome Museum Douglas DC2.
Without it, the plane is not allowed to fly in these days.
I'm proud to tell that the sales of the Fligfhtsim DC2 paid for the real new avionics set, as all profit goes to the Museum to keep the real plane flying.

The modern panel also has nice nightlighting

and a screen from the overhead, taken from the manual.
