DH Sea Venom for FSX

What a cracking little aircraft this is!

I had trouble downloading it, but thanks to the nice people at Classic British Files, I now have it.

My payware FSX Alphasim Sea Venom is now history, I much prefer this one!!!

Coming from you Trev that is high praise indeed! Rob will very very satisified
when he returns from the Canaries......

While taking nothing from the Honorable Ito Sans models.

This will be a pure FSX model and judging by the amount of information we
"Trawlers" at CBF have already brought ashore for Rob - it will be worth the
wait.

A picture should be worth a few words here, look at how the nose tire is
sunken below the flight deck. How can we adjust for that, looks like it has
a very flat tire....

This is one of the worst cases of a flat tyre I have seen, what does it look like on concrete ??? not as flat as that I'll bet, What Carrier is that you have it on ????.

I use only the Ark Royal and HMS Victorious which have a slight flat tyre thing this I think is because the hardened deck is slightly lower than the visual deck giving the flat illusion entirely different to parked on concrete, the French Clemancau on the other hand has the hardened deck slightly higher than the visual as you can see in this screenshot.

So you have 2 choices do contact points for a model for each of your carriers set up on that carrier and have the plane hovering on a concrete apron or accept what you have.

Just a insight on what I have found, I had nothing to do with this model but it is very nice and is a keeper.

If you look at the main gear on this screenie you will see that it is above the deck, I would not hound modelers to raise or lower the hardened deck a inch or 2, very happy they gave it to us.

3 more screen shots to illustrate, 1 on concrete, 1 on HMS Ark Royal and 1 on HMS Victorious all the same aircraft model neither of the 2 on the carriers are sunk up to the hubs.

I was using Flight Deck 4 carrier (Nimitz or Reagan). I will try to see if
tire is flat on concrete.

Hi!
Rich is right, hardened flight deck doesn't have the same altitude than the visual deck. I don't renember exactly why, but I had to move the Clemenceau hardened deck (a flickering something for sure )
I guess that SkippyBing had to do the same with his carriers.
The reason why I moved it up (and not down) was to make shadows showing up. FSX draws the shadows on the hardened surface, and if a visual surface is covering it, then no shadow should be visible.

By the way this Sea Venom looks great, and an Aquilon 202 repaint, with dark navy blue and French roundels (with anchor), should be perfect on Clemenceau's flight deck! :bump:

Sylvain

Sylvain, many thanks for your reply, I am not a modeler so do not know what goes on in the modeling side all I can do is make a mess of a air file.

It is not realy practical for a aircraft modeler to have models individualy tailored to individual ships as they would practicaly all be wrong on land.

I apreciate all the work you modelers put in, I know Skippy and the team put in thousands of hours in one way or another on models and accept slight variations of how some aircraft appear on deck.

Re Aquilon 202 repaint it is not my model so can't comment though the FAA FAW 21 and FAW Mk53 which was the Royal Australian Navy version are availiable on Classic British Files check with Rob I would think he would be happy for a Aquilon 202 repaint.

Meanwhile to keep you all awake this version has not been released yet and is WIP as are the FAW 21 and FAW 53 this one has added eye candy inc Cat strop, deck tie downs and can be user set to have the missiles or not.

Hopefully I will not be shot for posting this

I personally fly the Alphasim Payware Sea Venom but this freeware tempted me and looks worth a try and should be a nice alternative to the AS Payware
outside shots look awesome:applause:

Sea Venom - some thoughts

Greetings.
I found this forum via a google search for the Sea Venoms French cousin and was well pleased to find another Venom for FSX.
Apologies for being foward for a first time post but I would like to share some thoughts on how this sim compares to the real thing.
I have restored two Sea Venom FAW-53's (WZ-895 & WZ-937) to taxying condition and have been involved in the preservation of WZ-931 & WZ-897. I am presently looking after WZ-907.
I find this sim to be more accurate in the little details for a 53 than the alpha sim version. Very pleased with the cockpit as the 53 was very different inside to its British cousins. The alphasim version is for a 21/22 with a few things that arent in the real thing.
In the air it appears to fly like a real one, behaving as the pilots notes said it would. The only thing I'm not fussed with is the sound. Its more Vampire than Venom. The Ghost makes a god awful howl that sounds like the hounds of hell are behind your left ear. Maybe if I ever get the chance to give "907" a kick in the guts we can make a sound file from that.
Really really good effort on this one.
Cheers'
Steve

Hi Steve, it is always nice to hear form somebody with 'real world' experience of aircraft modelled in MSFS.

If you are not already a member, perhaps you would be interested in my other little internet 'local'...

Technical expertise is always welcome there too.
