Douglas C-47 V3 Beta Released

I wonder if

I wonder if the guys having trouble is an internet provider thing not his link because I had no trouble at all and it downloaded for me in 2 minutes and I have a 6 year old computer which started out XP and now is on Windows 7. I know that when this aircraft came out it was so popular that it didn't matter when the server was busy but now its not. I have also opened up the panel and its beautiful.

This may be really simple, as no one else has asked, but this is the first time I have tried replacing a VC. How do I install?

Thanks,

The download has a texture folder 'texture.greyVVC' ....put that into your C47 folders...just like any other paint...and change the 'texture.cfg' of whichever plane/paint you wish to add this VC colouring to...such as...
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture.greyVVC
fallback.2=..\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.4=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

This 'vintage black' office with faded brown upholstery and padding has just found its way to the library here at SOH and flightsim.com as well. Look for 'Douglas_C-47_V3_VC-Black.zip'.

Cheers,
Jan

Holy cow... I only realized it now but you are THE Jan Visser from MAAM-Sim! Amazing plane - thanks - and great cockpit textures!! :wavey:

I've been at SoH for a long time and didn't notice your username corresponding with your real name :173go1:

After getting my new GTX-960 GPU and seeing the same matte aluminum textures with some of the repaints, I knew something was amiss. I re-downloaded the model and dropped it into my Aircraft folder in place of the previous install and immediately noticed that the Paratrooper repaint showed a healthy shine on the aluminum surfaces but the EATS_315221 base repaint still looked drab. I compared the two texture configs and noticed that the paratrooper repaint did not have the Scenery\Global\texture line. I went and modified the EATS_315221 texture config commenting out the Scenery\Global\texture line and BOOM! the issue is fixed with no ill effects so I added the that texture config to all other repaints with aluminum/shiny paints. The only thing I can come up with is that I believe I may have a global environment map texture in one of the main FSX folders that may be interfering with the aluminum textures of the C-47 (and a couple of other models) but the good news is, anyone who runs into this issue can add the below fix and it should cure the problem:
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture.greyVVC <---(Note: I use the grey VC textures on my civy and post WW2 model repaints).
fallback.2=..\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Texture
//fallback.4=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

Now the aluminum on my C-47 looks spectacular!

Hehe, so the quarter finally dropped, huh... :smile: Well, i suppose you're not alone, Ryan, and you're very much excused, not always easy to keep track of who's who on the various forums. I *did* see you around for many years already, mostly on Avsim though.. ;-)

Thanks for the kudos!

Cheers,
Jan

Oh yeah, I've "known" about Jan for a loooong time now. The guy is a Master Craftsman bar none. Never yet seen a sub-par piece of work from him and this aircraft probably sets that bar just a little bit higher than ever before. Thanks again for the superb work Jan, Manfred, et al!

@StormILM - MANY thanks for this. I have noticed this issue myself but wasn't sure what to do about it. I'll implement your fix tonight. Much appreciated!

Guys,

Please do remember that repainting the panel in a light color comes with a price. As opposed to the 'normal' VVC stuff there's more work involved than just repainting the panel bitmaps for a light colored panel to look good all around. For one thing you'll loose the shadows which you will have to reinstate yourself. Also some of the gauge holes will look crappy, cannot be fixed by just adjusting the textures.

I noticed that because i did some tests with a light grey/blue panel myself. I plan to add a light colored panel next to the black panel with the first upgrade.

Cheers,
Jan

Sounds like I need to wait for your upgrade. Thanks.

Thanks...figured it was simple...just did not know what to do. After reading some later posts I'll wait until Jan's upgrade.

having a weird prob on dirt fields the plane just starts bouncing up and down jumping into the air and only on dirt air strips

It just don't get no better than this! Everywhere I look I see such outstanding excellence. A big sincere thank you to Jan and Team. You guys are the best. :encouragement:

Regarding my previous post re: Artificial Horizon I think I owe an apology. Took the C47 up again and made sure that I was trimmed properly and flying straight and level then went to have a closer look at the Artificial Horizon and as you can see the wings are level, but if anything can be done concerning the top part of the Horizon that would be great.

Nigel.

Not sure whether this should go here but did a very short video of this fantastic aircraft and hope you enjoy it.

Getting used to using short runways, this one is at Upola airfield Hawaii roughly 3,500ft long and I landed a bit further along the runway than planned, just one roller before moving on to another airfield.

Just click below and best played full screen.

Nigel.

Great video Nigel . Thanks for sharing . It really does show the beauty inside and out of this excellent aircraft .

Rich (I think I've loaded up to 17 or 18 repaints so far with more to add .)

Some nav tests. Hmmm, does AND/NDB work here? The arrow on this gauge shows nothing.
Maybe I miss something?
