Patience is a virtue
Well in all the excitement about other things (Latest releases paints etc) and while I patiently wait for the C-47 to be cleared for night flights, I have returned to the C-47 for a really good workout that will probably run for a couple of months on and off. As the updates and night flying stuff is still being worked on, I thought a VFR or Day only operation is required so back in time and into flying the WW2 logistics operation out of India to China and Burma also know as the THE HUMP. Nicholsons CBIX.zip has provided the airfields and most range aids so that solves that problem. GPS in terrain mode provides the cockpit map.
I have all up logged about 450 hours in sim on the DC-3/C-47 and so appreciate that this version is simply the best and probably always will be. No frame rate issues and no texture or graphics issues either. I do have a couple of glitches with switches not selecting or working but they are transitory and never mar a flight at all.
Any issues with the C-47 Not so far. I am using the co-pilot and interactive checklist so far no issues and I am using the SHIFT+4 Mini panel to set some things up etc. No issues there either. Sound is good and interestingly when you fly with the windows open it is a lot noisier than when they are closed (But cooler LOL). At the sort of elevations and altitudes and latitudes in the HUMP area the engines are working hard and so far authentically. I have had a number of heart stopping moments where the climb has had to be stopped and cowl flaps opened and the mixture richened up again to keep the cylinder head temperatures out of the red zone, so far no engine fires or other calamities. From the original stories you can see how they were often near the stall speed making about 100 fpm rate of climb and still not high enough, same problem ala FSX.
The more time I spend flying this aeroplane the more impressed I am with it so to all involved again thank you very much, this is what flight simulation is all about, realism and fun.
As for the HUMP well I am going to put together some plan and flight packages for those who like the easy way. me I plan every flight, check the weather, maps etc., so each one is a new and steep learning experience. Really want to know what this machine can do, then do the hump is all I can say.
The excellent JK Burma Airlift paint. This is departing Paoshun (Elevation 5600 ft) on climb to Tsuyung and it is a slow and long way up to F150).
