Douglas C-47 v3 Livery Thread

MGR,

One San Juan airport expert said "It would be the "US Mail' "Air Express" and "AM-xxx" which is Air Mail Route with the Route Number for Caribair.".

The other San Juan airport expert said "The bottom line is probably the Air Mail Route number, 'AM XX' In Caribair's case I would assume that it was the Air Mail route between San Juan and St. Thomas/St. Croix, since those were the 'domestic' routes that they flew."

I am waiting for other San Juan airport experts to answer my question.

Regards,

Aharon

MGR,

You are RIGHT it is AM-59.

According to foremost Puerto Rico airport expert, it reads "US MAIL AIR EXPRESS AM-59"/ AM-59 is the contract number for a specific Air Mail route, basically from Puerto Rico to the USVI. The aircraft in the photo is quite unique. During the conversion from C-47A-DL to DC-3-C, one of the C-47 doors was retained.. Purchased from the War Assets Administration in May of 1946, Serial Num. 19382, 42-100919, built in Oct 19 1942 and sold to Executive Transport Corp in Dallas, Tx. FOR $20,000.00. Sold to Caribair in July 17, 1946. Converted by Texas Engineering and Manufacturing Co., of Grand Prairie in July 17, 1946 to a 30 passenger DC-3-C. The second DC-3 to be delivered to Caribair, fleet number 201. With the loss of N1549V a C-47 cargo plane in a takeoff accident, N65389 was again converted to a C-47 at Air International, Miami, Fl. in 2-11-1964. I would assume this airframe was chosen because it still had the original C-47 door.

Here's a few pic with global environment map for reflections (P3Dv3) set to True and Reflection scale set to 0. Got some very good pics of the '48/49 of Monty's bird. Roundels and fin flash have changed and Royal Transport Crown are used during that period. Working on that one at the moment.
