Essex Class Carrier US Navy modification SCB-27A and SCB-27C

Just finished up repainting the Panther and the H-5. (H-5 is using the original paint)
Klaus if you would like to use these I can zip them up and send them to you, just PM me.
I can also change the tail code for different squadrons if needed.

Joe

Hi Joe,

I accept the offer gladly. The repaints of the Panthers are very good. That would be a very nice addition to the aircraft carriers of the Essex class, which could then be used by all users.
Since I myself am not the "painter artist" I would be grateful for that.
Same would be for the night lighting painting you do. Verny nice work.

So .... if you would like to send these one i will use your paintings for the package. :applause::encouragement:

I don't remember if you said that the elevator works or not. These are so fantastic already if not that's fine. You have put so much work in them already for us. Don't delay the release. Deck lights at night? You said that you were going to do the night textures.

Bag your paden, but there are no working elevators on that ships.

Klaus,
Both early and late WWII versions of Flying Stations' HMS Victorious (R38) have working landing barriers. They use a XML gauge to check your aircraft's tailhook position. Just a single-line addition in the aircraft's panel.cfg file. Barriers are up when you are approaching the ship with tailhook down, when you land and raise the hook the barriers lower and you can taxi forward. Nice animation feature. The guys at Flying Stations are supportive of other developers so I'm sure they would provide more detail.

A small point -

The Navy Ensign (national flag) is flown from a halyard rigged to the top of the main mast at sea, not on a staff angled from aft the island. All USS warships do this.

In port or at anchor, carriers fly the Ensign from a temporary staff erected on the stern of the flight deck - a practice known as "shifting colors".

Found the VictoriusEarlyWar on this morning on my used models on my harddisk an tried to integrate this into the Essex Class. Works very fine. Just did an EMail to the designers and also write a message on their Facebook side to ask for their permission to use their verv fine work. If they agree and i will get their permission, i will bring that very nice work from them to the carriers.

Thanks for your adwise.... that will be a very nice future.

In my NAS Alameda scenery I implemented all kinds of sound effects inport on the 1MC. Also when USS Constellation gets underway using AIBOATS you can hear,"Set the special sea and anchor detail"; "Shift the colors" and the ship's whistle is sounded as the last line leaves the pier. These are effects that are triggered with a control. I wanted to do this with the USS Saratoga CV3 I just finished converting but didn't know how to implement them if its possible without GMAX in an AI Carrier. Sounds like a project to start researching since I just finished completing KASW Warsaw Indiana Airport. I just found all my ESP files from Microsoft on Effects. Time to "hit the books". Keep up the fantastic work you guys. :loyal:

At the moment I'm still looking for a special piece of information and surely there is someone here who can testify to that.

What parameters in FSX Acceleration give me the ability to affect the length of the deceleration path of an aircraft after it has grabbed a rope with the catch hook? Is there any way to influence the braking distance?

During normal landings on a runway, I can change the braking force of the brakes. For this there is the parameter toe_brakes_scale = x in the aircraft.cfg. Is that also possible with the safety rope? And if yes --- with which parameter?

Background: In a landing with the F9F Panther on the carrier, the aircraft landing with the minimum landing speed still needs about 90 m to come to a stop. That seems pretty long. (that means by catchin rope one the plane will stop in front of the bridge of the ship. In reality it stops far behind the bridge in a much shorter way.

I would be grateful if someone can give me the appropriate information here.

Try adjusting the CABLE FORCE line in the [Tailhook] section of the aircraft.cfg.

[TailHook]
tailhook_length=4 ;(feet)
tailhook_position=-53.30, 0.0, -1.23, // longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
cable_force_adjust= 0.59

The line in RED above.

Increase it by 0.5 at a time, until you get close to what you want the plane to do on trapping. Then decrease the amount you increase it by. Or decrease it by, as the case may be.

It takes some trial and error, and a lot of traps to get it perfect, but it's worth it. Besides, the more traps you have under your belt, the better you get! :encouragement:

And yes, it only applies to one plane at a time. I think (very seldom, but I really do think, once in a while, anyway...) that there is a way to adjust the cable force of the ship's wires in the model, but I don't know how.

Does this help at all?:teapot:

this one matches fine for the Vertigo F9-F Panther : cable_force_adjust = 1.89

Klaus:

Great work! You've produced a very impressive Korean-era carrier. Nice AF-2W Guardian, and the proper ASW aircraft for the time. You are aware that these AF-2 flew as hunter-killer teams? Both the AF-2W and AF-2S are in the same download from the FlightSim Library. Although from CFS2, they have been updated to fly in FSX. Hopefully you will also model the AF-2S as a static plane. As far as I can determine, a 1950s Essex carrier would deploy with two teams: two AF-2W and two AF-2S. As they were quite large for carrier aircraft, I'd bet that they spent a lot of time up on the deck with wings folded, and not so welcome on the hanger deck! They were not much smaller than the S2F Trackers which quickly replaced them beginning in 1955.

This is such a great project. I haven't been looking forward to new carriers as much as these since SimWorks Studios' USS Coral Sea, and that was payware.

I promised

I promised not to "hijack" this thread and I'm not going to break that promise. Just wanted to post this repaint that I just finished just for this project. It is A.F. Scrub's FJ-3 which I repainted. This is VF-24 aboard USS Shangri-La in 1956 (actually posed on USS Lexington CV-16 since Shangri-La is not available yet).

The FJ-3 is available online if not here in the Warbirds Library and my VF-24 repaint and two others TBA will be shared here.

Joe (Butcherbird17) did a new texture set for the Panthers (and for the helicopter in use) and send this very nice ones to me. Thanks Joe for that very nice work.

On this base i decide to do different textures (numbering) for every Panther of every squadron in use for the carriers. Will paint 20 Panthers (that means that i have to do 20 different models) for each squadron.10 will be with wings down and 10 will be with wings folded. Start with squadron VF-51... then VF-52.... VF-53 and so on. Every aircraft has got 14 textures (ok... not every texture must be paint different.... but it could). So you can do your own set of textures too. Perhaps you would like to paint the helmet for the pilot of aircraft 102 in yellow and helmet for the pilot in aircraft 116 in green.... you can do that now, if you want.

The plane and texture set you will get with the carriers will have hundrets of different paints... and you can change this paints at your own will.

Same to do for the all other aicraft models in use. So you can uncounted numbers of different layouts of planes on deck, if you would like to do.
From my side the complet package of carriers will have different layout of plane groups on deck. You can do your own layouts and fill the empty carrier model as you want.

There also will be a set without numbers to save working space in FSX if you are low on that ....

Hope on this way every one will get his own possibility of wishes to get the carriers as he will have them.

Just a little sample, Panther 101, 103 and 105 of VF-51

I went nuts too

I too did that for VF1 for the USS Saratoga 1932 for all 18 aircraft and its fun to say that you did something and others haven't. Only Mick is as nuts as we are. LOL!

I am starting a new thread for the FJ-3 which by the way IS here in the Warbirds Library. I will anxiously watch this one and go find my F9F I got a couple years ago so that I can do different squadron textures than you are doing. Great work!!!!! :encouragement::encouragement:

Painting steps forword whilei`m waiting for an answer for a permission to use the barrier on deck from another designer.

But for now the CV-15 USS Randolph (SCB-27A) with Panthers from VF-103 on her deck in 1953. (just a configuration for example)

Really Nice

I am anxiously waiting for these to add to my fleet. In the meantime I am totally enjoying your USS Valley Forge CV-45. Thank you for all your efforts for us.

Good news....

yesterday Bing Chandler of http://www.flyingstations.com/ gave his very kind permission to use the functional barrier he made. Did an extract from his model and started to rework the first model yesterday. All works fine till now. This barrier works with a gauge you have to write to your panel.cfg. If you lower your arrestor hook this barrier comes up.After Landing you rise your arrestor hook and barrier wents down so you can go forword. Very nice animation and a nice part of realistic show on this carrier class. As in real.... every plane that lands the barrier rises up in the 1950th.

Some shots from the work till now. The CV-15 USS Randolph (SCB-27A) with that new barrier and with Panthers from VF-103 on her deck in 1953

36483946sm.jpg

In the background the BB-61 USS Iowa (...created by Shatter in 2010... did this one too in her outfit from the 1950th in Korea War. Also many changes on this model and a crew also on decks. But till now there is no permission to give this model to the comunity )

Barrier from cocpit view...

36483952gt.jpg

And the last one.... barrier is down after rising the hook from the Panther.....

36483956je.jpg

Thats for now.... next days when i will get time, i will convert the next models and get some new liverys for the squadrons and new deck layouts for the different ships.

By the way... after ending this project next one will be the Independence class ... got the permission from Alberto (jagl04) to use his model as base to build up all the ships of the class in their different outfits. One of those ship has seen the Korean War too.
