ETO Expansion Download Links, Comments, Questions"

Here's something interesting. I installed the new 1.20 update, following the word document to a "T". Now the only era I get is 1940, Hmmm

Do you not get the era selection screen at all then?

:kilroy:Sgtreilly, are you perhaps using Vista? If so, do this:

1. Right-clicking the ETO Start shortcut icon and choose "Run as adminstrator"

or

2. Check "Run this program as an adminstrator" under Privilege Level which is also located under the tab, "Compatibility", in "Properties".

You also need to turn off the UAC control, I believe.:d

Vista %&#@*

Gentlemen, other than Vista bighting baggy buffalo balls, I believe I am back in my time machine. Thank you.

I've got a problem with changing the era.
When I start the MASTERETOSTARTUP.bat, it lets me choose the era I want to play, changes to the ETOGLSwapper.bat but then exits with an error message stating that cfs3.exe can't be found.
When I start the game mannually by clicking on cfs.exe in the CFS3 ETO Expansion folder, I always end up in the 1940 era...
I'm running Vista 64bit, by the way.
The problem is, that way I can't even update to 1.2 because the readme says to change to era 1 before you try to update....
Any suggestions?

:kilroy:DaHeld, the Attack in the West '40 splashscreen indicates Era 1. When you start ETO, you will normally see two splashscreens, one will be smaller than your screen, then the CFS3 Movie will play (unless you have it turned off), then you will have a full-screen splashscreen. Both splashscreens should be identical, except for size, and color (Eras 2, 3, 4, and 5). The two instances of the Era 1 splashscreen are the same colors, and say "Attack in the West '40".

Do not run it from inside the ETO main game folders, and especially don't run it from the *.bat files. You need to run it from the desktop ETO Start icon. Right-click on it first and Run as Adminstrator (Compatibility mode Windows XP, SP2). Turn off the UAC. This should fix your problem.:d

Ah now it works. I had to add a line in MASTERETOSTARTUP.bat first though.
I added "CD.." one line above the START cfs3.exe command.
It looked in the wrong folder for the exe file...
But, at last, erverything is fine now. :applause:

Identity Protection

Does anyone here use AVG identity protection and if so does it affect how ETO works andwill it affect downloads and log ins?

Hello estepp

Does anyone here use AVG identity protection and if so does it affect how ETO works andwill it affect downloads and log ins?

I have the AVG Internet Security program currently installed at the moment,
Have ETO up and running with no problems,
The first time i ran it i got a pop up window,
Just click allow all and check the box don't ask again, or something to that effect and you are good to go.
No problem with downloads either, A window may pop up, choose allow or disallow,

Hope this helps

No ERA 1

How do you access ERA 1 1936 -1940? I think I've got a problem with my spawn files. Most of the spawn selections I make give me a really fast scrolling screen of text saying that the files can't be found. Are you supposed to select the appropriate spawns first, then select the era through Start? When the game loads and you select new campaign, I assume 1936 is supposed to show up as one of the options. It doesnt for me.
Any help would be appreciated.

Eto install...help!!

I had first installed ETO in November. No problems. I did have conflicts upgrading MAW to 1.31, but resolved them. In January my XP OS died and needed a complete reinstall which destroyed all registry files and has led to a total rebuild of my system programs. My least favorite at present is ETO...
CFS3 works, as does MAW, KPC Korea, PTO. But ETO no matter what angle I try fails to run consistently or reliably. First I do not have a clean CFS3 installation. It is "soiled" or at best "dirty" with multiple peripheral addons and MODs, some purchased, many collected. Yet it still supports its own launch as well as that of MAW, PTO and KPC without problems.
I have attempted Six clean installs of ETO. PROBLEM 1: The v1.0 setup installation takes FOUR Hours to run. The file installation takes about an hour to setup, but the CMD.exe compilation takes at least three hours to run through its copying of every known file to CFS and its Expansions.
I have attempted to validate the v1.0 install in Era1. But I crash to desktop after a first run. Note the "Splash" screen of the Invasion Map does not appear either.
This leads to Problem 2. The v1.20 install takes one hour. The results have been sporadic. One time, Era2,3,4 opened and were validated by a Free Flight. Era1,5 crashed to desktop immediately after the end of the intro. video. Hoping to correct this anomaly, I did a complete reinstall of the program, deleted every ETO reference in My Documents, My Desktop and even deleted (again) the UISEL file from the CFS3 folder in owners Microsoft documents.
At present nothing works. I will get a CRD with Era1,3,4. Era2 will send a "bing" sound after the video meaning there is a file conflict. On another attempt Era2 will join the other periods and CRD.
While persistence did achieve "success" with the MAW, PTO, KPC expansions, I am at wits end. I can at present only believe that "maybe" a clean, virginal, copy of CFS3 will solve my ETO installation woes. But I do not want to delete the work I have accomplished or lose the material I have gathered in my present CFS3 "FibberMcGee" setup, particularly MAW, PTO, KPC. If I am stumbling on the right thread, how can I achieve a ghost or parallel install of CFS3 to use as an ETO install base? What other actions are required apart from taking walks following ongoing frustration.
The ETO I remember is a great product. When functioning, I was much enjoying the period music effectiveness as accomplished in PTO.

You have understood the problem correctly, a clean install of CFS3, patched to 3.1a, is needed.

You don't need to trash your current CFS3 installation. Get Martin Wright's MultiCFS3 and use it to rename and activate your existing CFS3 installation.

Then install a fresh copy of CFS3 in its default location, patch it to 3.1 and then to 3.1a. Fly the sim in Quick Combat between each stage. Then install ETO.

Finally read all the instructions and be patient. If I understand your post correctly, you don't have a bleeding-edge mega games rig. Neither did I. Relax and let the installation do its stuff - some of the pauses between stages can be long so make another coffee while waiting for the next dialogue box to heave itself to the surface.

The Hairy Edge

THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR. HAIRY,

I had played what I had believed to be my last card of setup contempt and had lost. I had stumbled upon the MultiInstall program at SIMHQ. My problem was that the author, like yourself, states that I can re-direct a NEW installation.
How do I do this? Each time I have run CFS3 setup, it only permits play or uninstall. I want to do neither, but follow the inspiration I have of creating a new base install, without all the accumulations of the existing, upon which to install or create a ETO.
I have run the MultiInstall setup and created a name for the new target directory. How do I install into that directory.....

Thank YOU again

Still in the OUTHOUSE waiting

After now seven very, very tiring attempts at reinstalling ETO , I have now once again eliminated all discoverable references to ETO in Documents and Settings, the core folder. I have not deleted the UISEL file in the CFS3 folder as this disrupts CFS3, MAW, PTO and KPC launches.

I have downloaded the Martin Wright multi-installation file to the Microsoft Games Directory outside of CFS3 content. I have named a folder for later use. I have attempted to perform another install, but the setup on the CFS3 CD permits only PLAY and UNINSTALL.

So how do I progress??? I am certain that a breakthough has been achieved. I need to execute. HELP MR. GRIZZLY, MR. HAIRYSPIN A REQUEST FOR HELP FROM ANYONE IN THE KNOW
