g'day, me agian...

hmm... i have a fresh install of cfs3 (well its been played a few times and has one extra plane installed) and now i have installed eto (just 1.0). when i go to run eto i get the era swapper up and it goes thru the correct motions but then says it cant find cfs3.exe... whats with?

my cfs3 is patched so it should work shouldnt it?

:kilroy:Ving, it sounds like it's not properly installed. Did you install ETO into the default location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games) or somewhere else?

If you installed it elsewhere, you will need to edit these two batch files:

MASTERETOSTARTUP.bat (in the CFS3 ETO Expansion main game folder) and ETOGLSwapper.bat (in the global_layer folder which is found in the same main game folder).

Otherwise, it would probably be better to delete it and start over. Simply delete (NOT uninstall) the main game folder (CFS3 ETO Expansion folder) from Program Files\Microsoft Games and the two CFS3 ETO expansion folders found in your Application Data\Microsoft and My Documents folders:

In XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name (Your Name)\Application Data\Microsoft

For the folder normally found in XP C:/Documents and Settings/User Name (Your Name)/Application Data/Microsoft – go to, in Vista - C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft for Application Data folder location



C:\Documents and Settings\User Name (Your Name)\My Documents

Note: To find XP Application Data folder, open your Windows XP browser and look for the Tools
tab at the top. Click on it and look for Folder Options. Click the View tab and look for
“Hidden files and folders”. Make sure “Show hidden files and folders” is checked. While
you’re here, also make sure that “Hide extensions for known file types” is unchecked.


In Vista:


C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft for Application Data folder location



C:\Users\\Documents for My Documents folder location

Note: To find XP equivalent Application Data folder in Vista, open your windows (Vista) browser and look for the Tools tab at the top. Click on it and look for Folder Options. While you’re here, also make sure that “Hide extensions for known file types” is unchecked.

Note: For seeing hidden files and folders, and revealing file-name extentions in Vista:
Open a folder, say My Documents. At top left click on Organize and then Folder and Search
Options. Click on View and you will find both selections in the list.
For the record, you need a clean, unmodded, fully-updated (3.1 and 3.1a), vanilla install of CFS3 in order to install ETO 1.0.


Also, if you're using Vista, this may be of help (right-click on the ETO Start icon):
"run as administrator"
"compatability mode - windows XP (service pack 2)"
User Account Control(UAC):
Turn off for CFS3 ETO Expansion play (make sure to turn back on when on the internet.):d
 
hmm... i have it installed to the default location. (ei c:program files\microsoft games\)

i might try a clean install of both cfs3 and eto...

Thanks for ETO, it looks fantastic!
I have installed it and (think) I followed all the procedures, but when I start it and select one of the regions, the background shot comes up and then closes for some reason.

Does anyone know what to do?
BTW, I am running ETO 1, no patches, 1.2 is being downloaded right now.

ok, my install didnt go as smooth as i had hoped...

i uninstalled cfs3 and deleted everything to go with eto. gee it takes ages to install!
anyhow i ran it when finished and it stated that cfs3configdata.bat was missing and shut down on the splash screen (is this what happened to you gca333?). so i went into the eto folder and found indeed that it was missing. i then went into my cfs3 folder and noticed a file named cfs3configdata.bat.bak. after a bit of googleing i copied that file into my eto folder and deleted the .bak off the end of it (therefore renaming).

all runs sweet now (well after a quick test).:jump:

I uninstalled CFS3 and all ETO files, then reinstalled CFS3, ETO and ETO 1.2.

It was on the splashscreen for a while, but did eventually open.

What a great expansion, everything CFS3 should have had! Only problem is the performance, my PC is old to say the least.

Can't save changes to MASTERETOSTARTUP.bat or ETOGLSwapper.bat files

I am running Vista 64 bit on my machine. I follow the instructions exactly and keep getting an error message that it cant write to location, and admisistrator permission is required. I am the administrator on the computer. When it asks for confirmation it still gives the same error. Someone please help.
 
You haven't cleared the read-only property on either file.

And the UAC is a confounded nuisance - administrator permission is required to scratch your nose, for pity's sake!
 
Hi guys, Got the whole thing installed ok and it seemed to work ok, BUT there's no bad guys. At first I thought I had to hunt for them, but even in the ground attack missions I can't locate any targets. I can find everything else in there, (airfeilds, roads, RR tracks, etc) but no vehicles. Even the airbases are devoid of shootin' at stuff. So far, I have flown over 20 missions without sighting a single target. Needless to say, I have failed every mission. any ideas? thanks
 
QC with change airfields and aircrafts in ETO

That´s the problem:

In era 1 I have in QC my airfield and my aircraft, then I start the game. I close the game and open another era. I decide for a new aircraft and a new airfield in QC. If I press the fly button now the PC goes CTD !!!

Please give advice to me. There must be a solution!

Hi

That's because the airfield selected in another era doesn't exist in the current active era.

Be sure that the "location"-tab is showing something useful before hitting the "fly now"-button. If you see something like "usel43" etc, change the location first. If in doubt, always choose a new airfield after having changed the aera.

:kilroy:Hellflight, Italflyer is quite correct in this. When you switch Eras, always check the LOCATION box on the left side of the screen in Quick Combat before you click FLY, especially if see a series of lower-case letters and numbers in that box.

Those letters and numbers are the ID code of the filed you were last on in the previous Era you were in, and they do indicate that the filed is not in the present Era.

Change airfields in QC after change ERAs

Dear Friends!


Thank you for advice. But I have still the problem CTD!

From QC in ERA 1 I close the game and change to ERA 3.
The last aircraft from ERA 1 appears. I go to QC and choose a new airfield and a new aircraft. If I press the Fly-button, the PC goes to CTD!

Sometimes I have a similar problem with QC. For example in ERA 4 I play QC and want to change airfields.
After press Fly-button always the old airfield appears, also if I want to change it again.

Your question: Yes, it is correct

Everything in QC in ERA 1 is working fine.
Only if I go from a QC in ERA 1 to QC in another ERA also if I change airfield and aircraft PC goes to CTD. If I except the in the location -field appearing airfield salzburg it is working!
Is that perhaps a problem with the spawn selector? Have I to select a special spawn? I think this is only for choosing campaigns.
