ETO Expansion Download Links, Comments, Questions"

Yep,

I just spent some more time digging through this thread and still cannot find info about just what ETO is. Its like wandering in to the middle of a very excited conversation and not having an idea of what is going on.

Halp!

Oh, and one last thing. I did a "Search This Forum" and input "eto ". I got no hits at all... I don't get it.

:kilroy:ShockandAwe, ETO is short for CFS3 ETO Expansion.

It is an add-on stand-alone theater (similar to MAW, PTO, or Korean Skies) combat flight sim based on CFS3. It has been very heavily modded to be more of an historically correct simulator rather than just a game.

It is broken down into five separate time periods, or Eras, which stretch from 1936 (Spanish Civil War period) to the summer of 1945.

ETO, fully updated to the 1.20 version, contains more than 200 aircraft. All existing CFS3 effects and weather files have been greatly modified, with many new ones included.

All of the AvHistory weapons are also included, and all aircraft, including the old stock CFS3 aircraft, have been modified to carry.

The stock CFS3 aircraft all have new skins, to make them more historically accurate.

This add-on, stand-alone theater is far superior to stock CFS3.

Even the flak has been made better than stock CFS3 in that it is more survivable and believable in it appearance.

One of the greatest assets of ETO (fully updated to 1.20) is its airfields, especially those in England. They are absolutely beautiful. Most, if not all RAF fields and US 8th and 9th AAF fields have been provided.

You will find the link to the site from where the CFS3 ETO Expansion can be downloaded in Post #1 in this thread: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=862

Simply copy the link address from Post #1 into your web browser and go get it.

If you need any further assistance or have questions, just come back here.

Good luck and enjoy.:d

Um... what!

That's all you need other than a clean unmodded CFS3 install updated to 3.1a.

Okay, in trying to figure out how to install ETO, I have been browsing around in this scrambled up thread. Yes, I cut and pasted the link into my browser. It brought me to a window that had three possible things to download. I clicked on ETO 1.20 Cumulative figuring that Cumulative meant Cumulative as in 'all'. The aussiex.org site said that

'This is an update and you need <this> file to make it work.

I clicked on <this> and was brought to another download page for ETO 1.0. "Oh", I thought, "I guess 1.20 was not cumulative. Okay, so I looked at that page and it said

You should also download this file --> Click here to download the 1.02 update

I clicked on that hotlink and was taken to the ETO 1.20 download page.

Okay, what the ^(*&%%$ do I do? The quote above seems to indicate that I only need one file. The download website seems to indicate that I first need to download and install ETO 1.0 followed by ETO 1.02 (now replaced by 1.20).

Which is it?

Thanks.

:kilroy:ShockandAwe, download both 1.0 and 1.20. There currently is no 1.02. There was, but it is no longer available, as it has been incorporated into 1.20.

As WV-903 said, we will help you if you need it.

If you are running Vista, there will need to be an adjustment or two made.

Good luck.:d

Okay, I guess I bungled installing 1.0. The readme file said I should end up with a bunch of shortcuts on my desktop but that didn't happen. Is it okay to proceed to trying to install 1.2? :isadizzy:

:kilroy:Paiva, make sure of the information on the left side of the screen is filled in: Aircraft, Location, Enemy Aicraft, etc. Also, if you have added any planes to ETO yourself, make sure that they have everything that is required.

I hope this helps. If not, please come back here.:d

hey guys im new here im trying to play with a friend that has firepower but i dont wanna pay $20 right now.... is there anyway to download the planes so we can fly together ....i looked and have had no luck .. thank you

Planes are exploding at menus...

So whenever I'm at a menu any plane that is sitting on the screen to be previewed or otherwise is just EXPLODING!!! This isn't a problem for mission play or quick flight play, and its actually entertaining, but if I'm doing a campaign my pilot gets killed instantly. I can't play any campaigns due to this... so how do I fix the bug?

:kilroy:LastPANIC, I am assuming that you are trying to fly larger aircraft from the smaller fields. Fly the fighters from the small fields, and the bomber from the larger fields.:d

actually I only use fighter planes... but they are falling through the ground and impacting it and exploding. Plus, everytime I pick a plane to preview at a menu it explodes then the second one to spawn is just fine. I don't know mybe its a problem with the ground?

thanks for the quick reply!

:kilroy:LastPANIC, are you using ETO or stock CFS3?

If ETO:

Which campaign(s)?

Which Era(s) are you flying which campaign in?

Which airfields?

Which aircraft?

Did you install CFS3 ETO Expansion before installing CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20?:d

This is in ETO with 1.0, 1.2, and bombers, all installed

it happens to whatever I plane I am in when I come to the main menu area. It happens at any airfield, I cant name them though. For example, I reinstalled everything and I booted up ETO for the first time on era 5, and as soon as I hit the main menu the plane that was sitting there goes BOOM!!! (I think It was a P-47D). However when I go into quick flight, I cycle through the planes there and they dont explode. Until after I come back to the main menu after the quick flight, then boom! the plane i just flew in explodes, and it doesnt matter what plane i chose. This happens to kill my pilot in any campaign as soon as I create my character and make it to his campaign menu. Doesn't matter what nationality or plane chosen.

I started with CFS3 Firepower v1.08, then ETO 1.0, then 1.20, then the bombers pack.

Just did a little more flying and my planes tend to not explode after a mission, but after quick play and duing campaigns they do...

:kilroy:LastPanic, I think I just found your problem. ETO was neither designed nor tested with FirePower. This may well have messed up your install. You need a clean, fully-updated (3.1 and 3.1a) vanilla install of CFS3 in order to install ETO Expansion 1.0, then ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20.

This solution should have you up and running, give you a vanilla CFS3 install for installing other CFS3-based add-on standalone theaters (MAW, PTO, etc), and retain your FirePower install.

Before you do anything else , do this. To save time, go into your CSF3 ETO Expansion main game folder and look for this file: MultiCFS3.exe. Copy this file to a safe location.

Follow these steps exactly:

1. Delete, not uninstall, your ETO install completely. This should be in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games, unless you installed it elsewhere. This includes deleting the two folders that are named "Combat Flight Simulator 3.0" that are found in these two locations:

For Windows XP:

A. C:\Documents and Settings\User Name (Your Name)\Application Data\Microsoft

B. C:\Documents and Settings\Kasey\My Documents

For Windows Vista:

A. C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

B. C:\Users\\Documents

While you are at it, delete the two folders named Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 that are in these locations.

2. Delete all desktop icons relating to CFS3 and ETO.

3. Now, re-name the Combat Flight Simulator 3 folder that is in Program Files/Microsoft Games to reflect that it contains FirePower. Afterward, drop in a copy of the Multicfs3.exe that you saved elsewhere, and run it. Use it to re-name the CFS3 install to reflect FirePower. After you have done this, go back into the newly re-named install that contains FirePower, and look for the file named "cfse.exe". Right-click on it and send it to desktop as a shortcut. Go to the desktop and re-name this new icon to reflect FirePower. Start this game up and exit. You now have two new folders in Application Data/Microsoft and My Documenets for the FP install.

4. Now simply re-install CFS3 normally, and apply the two updates (3.1 and 3.1a). You will now have a new CFS3 icon on your desktop. Leave this alone, as you will need it to start this new vanilla install. When you start up with this icon, you will have two new folders in Application Data/Microsoft and My Documents named Combat Flight Simulator 3.0. You vanilla install is now ready for installing any CFS3-based add-on standalone theater, such as PTO, ETO, MAW, etc.

5. Install the CFS3 ETO Expansion 1.0 through your new vanilla install. Start it up and set everything inside the way you want it, as normal. Then exit.

Note: Start ETO in Era 1 and exit, then set the ETO Spawn Selector to 1 before installing CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20.

6. Finally, you can now safely install the 1.20 update. After this, all should work just fine.

I hope that this helps.:d

Okay, I'm not quite sure what all your steps mean, but I think it has something to do with perserving my original cfs3 firepower as a separate individual game, which I'm not too worried about doing.

So taking 3.1a I should be able to get to 1.20. Then from there how would I go about getting the bomber pack which requires firepower v1.08? Or would I just manually add the firepower planes in?

Thank you for all the help and response, I should have time to do complete re-install later tonight and se how she goes...

:kilroy:LastPANIC, just delete everything as I have described before. The only difference being to copy and paste the following four folders to a safe location beforehand: B_17_Shared, b_17f, B_17G, and B_24J.

If you don't have ETO 1.0 and 1.20 then go and get them through this thread: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=862 The link is in Post #1. Copy and paste the link into your internet browser. The resultant site has all three parts: Found through Downloads/3rd party downloads/ETO / Sim-Outhouse. CFS3 ETO Expansion and CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20 will be be downloaded through their own download managers, which will be downloaded first. Then the FirePower_USAAF_Heavy_Bombers_2eto.zip is a more direct download from that site.

1. After you have deleted everything, re-install CFS3, and then update it fully (3.1 and 3.1a). After installation, start it up at least once and exit.

2. Now install ETO 1.0. Start it up at least once in Era 1 and then exit. Then make sure the ETO Spawn Selector is set to 1.

3. Install ETO 1.20. Again, start it up in Era 1 at least once and then exit. Set Spawn Selector to 1 again, too.

4. Copy and paste the four FirePower folders I have mentioned above into the CFS3 ETO Expansion main game folder's aircraft folder.

5. Copy (not cut) and paste the following folders and files from the ETO main game folder to a safe location: 1944_missions, 1945_missions, spawns, and CFS3 ETO Expansion BDP Zapper.exe.

Note: Making a copy of the CFS3 ETO Expansion BDP Zapper.exe is for whenever you decide to use the Fire Power USAAF Heavy Bombers Uninstall.exe. Running this uninstaller will delete the above BDP Zapper.exe and the other three folders from your main game folder.

Good luck and have fun!:d
