F-4 Phantoms back at Alphasim

SOH-CM-2024
From the news page at Alphasim:
The eagle-eyed may have spotted we recently re-released the FS9 DH Sea Venom, DH Sea Vixen, Sukhoi Flankers Set, Dornier Do217 and Tu-22M3 Backfire. Well we saved the best until last - back in the store are the F-4 Phantoms ! All three Phantom packs are now available once again. They are still all for FS2004 and no changes have been made to these outstanding packages. Please note, Pack 3 is in the RAF/RN section of the Store, as it covers mainly the UK variants, although the RF-4C and RF-4E are also included in that package. Many thanks for 'FSDSMan' for allowing AlphaSim to sell these superb model sets on his behalf.

That is good news, Frank. I plan to purchase set 1 and maybe set 2 here in the morning. Thank you for the update.

When the Phantom packs were originally up at AlphaSim I'm pretty sure there was a USMC RF-4B included in (I think) pack 1. So it's no longer available?

I guess you mean this one:

It is a nice repaint of RF-4B Bu. No. 157346 from VMFP-3 in 'film' markings by "Tranquil" of UKMIL. It can be used on the RF-4C model included in set 3. The RF-4C model does not have the RF-4B refuelling probe, other than that I think it comes close to the real thing. The download is still available: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.p...ge=downloads&FileUploadName=Tranquil#download

cheers, Henk.

The recon versions were always in the third set. There have been no deletions or shuffling.
Pack 1 was only F-4B and F-4J in Navy and USMC colors.
Pack 2 was all USAF F-4C, F-4D, and F-4E.
Pack 3 was USAF RF-4C, Greek RF-4E, and RAF/RN versions.

Any screenshots of the panel?

Bill, FYI some screens from the pack 1 panel:

2D panel in FSX/A (some older gauges do not work):

VC in FSX/A - the textures of pack 1 won't display properly... Pack 2 & 3 does not have that problem.

BTW: Thanks again for your advise last month on the Westland Whirlwind repaints; I found them once SOH downloads were brought back up.

regards, Henk.

My error. :redf: I thought the RF-4B was a separate model.

Great news! I bought packs one and two for FS9 some time ago, and they are great. Will they work in FSX, and, if so, what must I do to make it happen?

They do indeed work in FSX. The only major gauge you have to worry about is the ASI, as can be seen on some of the previous screenshots in this thread.

Here are some FSX screenshots. Fly Navy!!

Now that the alphasim phantoms are belatedly back on line, were there any tweaks for them,ie lights (redux),a better reheat and smoke being the models are failry long in the tooth?

There are indeed Shockwave lights available. You can get the config settings over at the A2A website.

The reheats can also be changed, but the actual positions depend on which pack you're wanting them for - as the British aircraft had those thumping-great Speys fitted. The same applies to the smoke effects. The Speys require a much more dense/darker effect.

Edit: While I think about it - you might want to consider separating out the Spey-engined variants from the J79-engined F-4J/RF-4s - as the reheats and smoke positions are completely different.
