F-86 Sabre Jet...

FWIW a few ingame externals of the Milviz F-86. A few more code tweaks before sending off to the testers.

No pilot figure in yet.

looks nice but not too excited about the "rough" looking metal finish seen especially in the unside shots. will this be cleaned up some or is it an early paint?

Probably not going to really help anyone at this point, but if you have a copy, or know someone with a copy, of PC Pilot magazine issue 59 (Jan-Feb 2009) the F8 F-86 was included on their freeware CD along with a full review article. They liked it a lot.

http://sectionf8.com/f86files/sf86fsx_fixup.zip This link should bring you the sabre already fixed for fsx. You should, however, install the SP1 gauge fix if you experience airbrake related issues. Godspeed.

Stefano, thank you very much for this link. I downloaded and installed it. Took it up for a quick test hop before this posting. All systems worked fine.

Back in 1966 while flying Blind Bat out of Ubon RTAF Base, there was a RAAF detachment there. They were flying F-86s. We took the commander up on a mission over the "Trail" with us one night.

Let us not forget Kirk Olsson and his Sabre which if memory serves me correctly is the A variant, and although FS9 holds up very well in FSX, no longer cutting edge but still very good.

I've been messing around with the virtual cockpit lighting. I swapped out the one in the download with the fx_red_lamp effect that is included in full's Ercoupe. Disclaimer: No two rigs are the same so anybody trying this most likely will not get the exact same results. I didn't even get the same results on my two computers...LOL But close enough.

Oh my, thanks so much for sharing. This looks even better than the pic SH posted. I am definitely not tracking the issue SH is talking about, but these are simply stunning and looking forward to the release.

Actually I too am looking forward to it...but I also know that we have many many talented repainters here and I know at some point there will be paints that fit my fancy......honestly....bring my a nice clean jet with standard USAF markings.....no unit markings....I'm happy!

Hey RD,

I'd like to try this when I get a minute - it has been the sole thing about this model (in FSX) that's bugged me to no end - that I can't get the night lighting to work. I'd certainly be very happy with what you've just shown. Looks pretty good to me! :ernae:.

Cheers,

DL

You've definitely done some nice paints and really liked your Bronco series. I'm looking forward to what you'll make on the upcoming Skyhawk from Virtavia. Also, did you ever finish your European One variant of the Bronco? You were on a roll for a while. When you stopped, I figured you got a bit burned out.

Also, with regard to the posted Milviz pics, I just thought the dragon looked really cool and am always amazed how many real world paints you and others are able to reproduce. Thanks for your work and all other painters.

Section 8 still the winner. You can't beat the photoreal textures. And the available paints are numerous. :salute::salute::salute:

I gotta admit, that too is a stunning model. I actually got to see what I can only assume was a contractor DACT version here at McChord, about 10 years ago. It was parked at McChord and was here for about 2 weeks. I don't recall if the F-15's were still stationed at McChord or not. Perhaps it was working the Oregon ANG and Alaskan Air Command birds, but still a very cool site and sound, nonetheless.

Whilst the freeware one has to be one of the best freeware offerings out there, I just know the Milviz will be better . The difference would be sitting in the vc and (possibly) the fde . I feel fairly confident and assume the vc is of no less a quality than already produced by Milviz in their F15 or T38 . Looking forward to it since most of my time is in the cockpit. :)

light.8= 4, 2.90, 0.00, 1.90, fx_red_lamp

This is the line in my aircraft config file. The effect is the one I did for full's Ercoupe. I was trying to simulate a single redlamp illuminating the panel. I hope you get good results with it.
