f4 Phantom

I'm sick of this crap Jet, I hate it, even the designers of it and I mean it, not she, called it wrong its the most hidious piece of junk ever to take to the skies its just all wrong it rocks like a junkie missing his methodone and cannit turn for crap, it was only good for speed and punch and thats only when Rolls-Royce fitted the Spey afterburning turbofans and fitted her with the Sky Flash missiles and thats irrelevant here, I hate it hate it, as a Eurofighter Jock I jut think wtf!!!!

:isadizzy:

Calm down

:gameoff:

Love her or hate her, she was a great fighter jet operated by many countries (and she continues to be operated by many countries even today).

It played a crucial part in the Vietnam War, and ushered in a new era of guided weapons, such as the AIM-9 and the AIM-7. As much as I concur about its looks, it truly is an iconic airplane, and one very fitting of A2A, as opposed to the relatively modern Tornado or Fulcrum.

Sorry mate I know I'm being harsh I just hate it mate, nothing against phantom drivers or engineers, I just don't like it, I think its just so dirty, waists fuel, can not turn, rocks like well a drug addict awaiting a hit and doesn't have a gun in the original design.

Peter. There are many aircraft I absolutley don't like that are payware for FSX...I just don't buy them, nor do I post in the topics about them.

If ya hate her so much, well...just don't look in this topic :kilroy:

I just think its crap, as a pilot in the RAF myself were taught to look at the figures of aircraft performance and the phantom is a running joke at the minute!!
I hope you won't take offense to this Peter but I've been around AF Pilots both Active Duty and Reserve, worked closely with them and found a great camaraderie that continues still, several years after retiring. In all those years (26), even in the heat of discussions on the pro's and con's of this aircraft or that, the banter was always done professionally and with great respect for the crews that flew opposing aircraft.
Given that, I find your references to what most historians would consider a venerable aircraft of some distinction, rather unprofessional considering your position as an RAF Pilot or a pilot of any Military unit. If I may ask, how long have you been an RAF Pilot?

Perhaps you should try and resist the urge to buy it then. Nobody is forcing you. Jeez chill. :isadizzy:

Oh baby...

....I love the Phantom!

My only gripe will be if A2A doesn't release a paint kit...and hopefully they will give us a variety of stores to choose from (centerline fuel tank, 370 gal underwing tanks, sparrows, sidewinders, ECM pods, and travel pods).

Hate to mention it, but an RF-4 would be AWESOME as well!

IAF Phantom, here I come!

Oh yeah an F-4 for FSX, got to be one of my favourite aircraft. The older model in FS9 was great, but in FSX with the goodies it can provide this should and hopefully be a fantastic model.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

The Phantom is an iconic aircraft. They are few and far between in FS. With the greatest respect to DB, the FS9 Cloud 9 version is the only high end 'Pro' version that's been produced to date for the simulator. I for one am really looking forward to this aircraft.

Peter from Newcastle, I'd have thought the RAF would have taught you diplomacy by now. As has already been stated, if you haven't got anything constructive to say, please don't post.

Now I'll go back to thinking of all those classic sports cars that I'd like to own, despite the fact they were inefficient, handled like a bag of crap and broke down every other Tuesday. :engel016:

That will be a TVR then on the break down front, had an AA van following just in case.

Back to the topic.

OK, NO chance of me waisting my money buying it, the bus, even if we get a full British spec one with the Rolls-Royce Spey afterburning Turbofans which out climbed and out powered the American engined ones, thirsty yes!! And even if we get skyflash missles!! If i wanted to rock like a junkie missing its methodone I'd buy it, but I'm not paying for a crap aircraft like the Phantom I learned that from the Iris FGR.2!! Phantom = crap, I'd still knock 3 out for one of my hawker hunters on my terms and thats saying something! Just run thats all you can do in FSX! Its a joke!!

Peter as someone with over 800 hours in the Phantom, I don't know where you are coming from? Pilots in my day peed in their pants for a chance to fly the Phantom.

It was one of the most rugged, bullet proof fighters ever built. Many a pilot has it to thank for returning him home with half a wing or tail missing.

It could carry more ordinance than a B-17 bomber of WWII fame. It was an excellent weapons platform, solid and maneuverable. True it smoked like a diesel truck on fire (that is what the first stage of the ABs was for) and up intil the "E" model didn't have an internal gun.

In spite of no gun, it still had a roughly 3:1 kill ratio over the smaller faster turning MIGs in Vietnam, fighting their tactics on their turf. (Not to count the asinine ROE) The Israelies did even better with it during their wars in the 1970's against Russian MIGs flown by Russian and Arab pilots, although they hand a gun.

If you think it "wanted to rock like a junkie missing its methodone" try hitting a tanker with a grossed out dirty aircraft long enough to take on enough fuel to reach the target and get back to the tanker. We Phantom Phylers did it day and night.

I grant you the Iris Phantom was not a good model. However, both Iris, as a company, and the FSX aircraft developers in general have come a long way since that model was built.

If the WWII models are an example of A2A's abilities, I think the F-4 Phantom will be a work of art.

well I love the Phantom, and although no-one will force me to buy it, buy it I will (and I never thought I'd worry about a fast jet add-on (even the F16) as I like WWII era aircraft mostly). thanks A2A:applause:

Lets hope you right John, and the abilities of A2A are outstanding no doubts there at all!!
And I can see that the Phantom is an Iconic and actually quite handsome jet, my comments only refer to it handling deficencies!

Peter, referencing my comments above, how long have you been an RAF Pilot?

How could a real military pilot harbor such ill feelings toward the Phantom? That would be like a Catholic despising the Pope.
Yea, I don't know, just strikes me as an odd attitude for someone trained to be a professional in every aspect in and out of the cockpit.

Never known anyone to hate the Phantom so much! :isadizzy: Peter, what you've got to remember is that the F-4 is an old aircraft - its handling qualities/fuel consumption/power or whatever else you might dislike about it are hardly going to be on par with a Typhoon!

For the record - here's two of my highlights of my aviation year so far:

the Phantom can trace it's bloodline into every western combat jet, technologically, it was Genesis of the modern multirole aircraft. Eurofighter, Tornado... they wouldn't even exist if we hadn't had the Phantom, even the RAF's Hawks incorporate lessons learned from the Phantom, remember Phantom was a Mans plane to fly (not being sexist) she was heavy, a real sumb*tch to get her to co-operate, and no modern digital control which does everything for you :icon_lol:

There'd be something wrong if a brand new (but very delayed) Eurofighter couldn't run rings round a 1950s design, so it's hardly much to crow about - a bit like boasting you could whip someone's grandad!

Anyway, I'm definitely having this one. My scenery (and my reactions) will never keep up but I don't care - this was THE jet fighter when I was growing up and it captured my imagination like nothing else. A few years back you could sit in the front seat of the FAA Museum's FG1. One memorable trip the place was almost deserted and I got nearly half an hour to myself, just after I'd read Robert Prest's book - magic!

really?...what handling deficiencies?

January 2, 1967
Operation Bolo
Col. Robin Olds...
A third enemy plane appeared in my ‘10 o’clock’, from the right to the left: in simple words, almost in the opposite direction. The first MiG zoomed away and I engaged the afterburner to get in an attack position against this new enemy. I reared up my aircraft in a 45 degree angle, inside his turn. He was turning to the left, so I pulled the stick and barrel-rolled to the right. Thanks to this maneuver, I found myself above him, half upside down. I held it until the MiG finished his turn, calculating the time so that, if I could keep on turning behind him, I would get on his tail, with a deflection angle of 20 degrees, at a distance of 1,500 yards. That was exactly what happened. He never saw me. Behind and lower than him, I could clearly see his silhouette against the sun when I launched two Sidewinders. One of them impacted and tore apart his right wing.

The vertical maneuver, known as a "vector roll," positioned his Phantom above the tighter-turning MiG-21, then when it completed its turn, Olds dropped in behind it and fired two AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. One struck the MiG's right wing and tore it off. The MiG went into a spiral and disappeared into the clouds below, the second kill of the battle.
