F7F Tigercat SOH Project

...snipped...

...and with that said,
will she qualify as a RTW Racer?

Any aircraft released to the general public, subject to realism testing, can be used as long as the general qualifications are met. Once I get the AT-11 released, I will add a basic VC and a blank slate panel background so that anyone can add gauges to the VC. That should make her a little more fun to fly. I'm sure OBIO or someone would be happy to populate the panel. :)

Slightly OT, but how is the AT-11 doing? Been looking forward to that as well! Haven't seen any recent updates....

Mike, where can I find the paint? I still don't quite know how to navigate the file library it seems.

No problem- I'm still getting used to the library myself...

On the home page, click on 'Flight Simulator 2004 add-ons'(center of screen)- on that page click on 'FS 2004 Skins'(left center of screen)- then click on the 'sort by' and select 'date created(descending)' and they should be at or near the top of the list. -Mike

I have added a basic VC panel background to the F7F if you are interested.

This was just a test using Gnoopey's P-47 panel gauges to ensure it all worked.

If you want something basic to fly from the VC, I will make the blank VC available so it can be populated with gauges.

Thanks Mike! I used your work this morning to lead my dream Tailhook Legacy Flight! Wish we still could get a flight like this together, it would be awesome!

Milton , you are the Master of surprises and generosity :applause: :applause:

I'd love to try out the basic VC and panel :jump:

Thank you :ernae:

I have uploaded a revised model and panel folder for the:

Tanker: http://www.flightsimonline.com/mas/F7F-TankerMod.zip

F7F-3: http://www.flightsimonline.com/mas/F7F3Mod.zip

These are NOT full packages, just replacement Model and Panel folders. Make a copy of your existing before replacing with these folders.

Download the mods, unzip, and put them in your existing folders.

I have used Gnoopey's P-47D panel as the basis for the temporary mods to provide 2D and VC panels and popups.

You can replace all that as you wish but I thought these would be good examples on which to build.

For the VC, you simply need the vcockpit01 and vcockpit02 sections of the panel.cfg that you may copy paste to whatever you are using now and replace gauges as you wish. What I have included are functional, workable solutions ... barely. :)

Panel and gauges remain the copyrights of the original authors as documented in Gnoopey's P47D package. These mods are for your temporary personal use until this project progresses to supply its own.

this may seem silly...but you or someone may want to contact Mr Walt Darran who is beta testing the AT 802 for the airtractor guys over on the FSX forum...they are payware..but my thought is...Walt may well have flown F7Fs back in the day..i dont know this..im guessing but he may have some insight...wouldnt hurt to ask

he has thousands of hours in airtankers of all types

I have been working up a basic layered repaint kit for future use. This is a trial paint I have done. It's spit clean right now, I plan to give the exhausts and all some weathering. I used the HEX code for Glossy Sea Blue at Simmer's Paint Shop, which must be what Mike used on his excellent repaint, as the paint matches to a tee.

Are you modeling the nose guns Milton?

In actuality, this paint represents a Marine F7F-3P from China Grove NAS.

Hey Cazzie :)

Looking great! The guns are mapped I believe and the texture is guns.bmp.

Now, I must remind everyone again that the texture mapping is temporary and will be redone so do not go overboard on this.

I have the guns.bmp map in the texture folder Milton, but they do not appear on the model. I'll hold until you have this one in the wrapper. I flew her to Roanoke today, she's a beauty.

That IS a very nice paint job, Cazzie...
That 'Glossy Sea Blue' swatch at SPS is the very one I used for my paint job- That is the correct color, isn't it? The literature I have says so, but I wasn't totally sure at the time, because many photos, videos, and textures of Tigercats and other Navy aircraft of that time seemed to show a darker blue...
Be that as it may, your paint job still rocks! -Mike Z.

That's it Mike,

Glossy Sea Blue is far too often represented in a dark blue that is too blue in both sim paints and in illustration profiles, there should be more gray like the swathe at SPS has. The unfortunate thing is, when Alpha is added to make the paint gloss in the sim, it lightens the paint rather than darkening it, as would happen in painting my plastic models, airbrushing Glossy Sea Blue and adding a finish coat of clear sealant gloss once decals had been applied.

Caz

Ah-ha....... Thank you very much for the enlightenment! That's exactly what was making me wonder... When I applied that color I found myself thinking 'there's a little too much gray in that...' and it just got more pale and grayish as I tried to gloss it up by adjusting the alpha...
Thanks for letting me know I wasn't going nuts! -Mike Z.
