F7F Tigercat SOH Project

The F7F-3N Night Fighter for FS2004 is ready for packaging but I am waiting for Fliger747's FSX flight model before uploading. The FM is different for the -3N as it is a little slower with the added weight of the radar equipment and radar operator. So we will have a -3N specific FM for both FS9 and FSX thanks to Fliger747. :)

This release benefits from the other uploads and corrects known anomalies. It also has its own mapping for textures to accommodate the large tail and longer nose. We use the same panel here but use Nigel Richards' sounds. Matt "Smoothie" Wynn provided the textures. :)

I will upload the FS9 version as soon as we can test the FSX FM for inclusion.

Milton, Thank you for doing the replacement panel.cfg. You know, it is so archetypal of the flight sim community in general, and you in particular (in this case), that you are so willing to do something for someone just becase. No quid pro quo. No nothin'. Just because. Man, I really love you guys and this hobby! LA (PS - Love the new AT-11)

Thanks for saying that LA. It's why we are all here, to enjoy the hobby and have fun. Always happy to help when I can, which is mainly between projects.

Test flying the FSX version of the Three Enn. I test and set it up for Accel, Your Mileage May Vary....

Hope to get it spit out before heading off on vacation.

Cheers: T

The more I fly this plane, the more I like it. Thanks a lot Milton and the SOH crew! :salute:

I decided we need a paint scheme for the iFlyOnline.com RTW race team. But then I remembered that paint adds weight, so what we really needed was a bare metal version. Here it is, ready to race, just very slightly lighter and therefore very slightly faster than any other F7F-3. ;)

Besides not reccomending spins, snap rolls are not reccomended for the low altitude airshow circuit.

Just Uploaded the Official RTWR Version of the F7F-3

This same package will be loaded to Avsim and Flightsim.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=6&linkid=3480

As noted in the package:

If you downloaded an earlier version of this aircraft, note there are only 3 changes to this version:

1) Model updated with specular lighting
2) ST_D18 gauge added
3) Limits placed on Flap Deployment speeds

You should use this version for RTWR participation.

Thanks

EDIT: The package has been uploaded to Flightsim and Avsim

There are no changes to performance with the RTWR version, only improvements.

The updated model with specular lighting adds realism.
The ST_D18 gauge set is for people who do not have any variant of the D18S and were therefore missing the feather gauges at top of the panel.
The flap limits simply provides limitations on speeds so you do not destroy or damage the flaps by deploying early.

If you are happy with what you have, and have the feathering gauges at top, then no need to download this version.

The tank drop release does not work on the "3N" version. I've tried the icon on the 2D panel and the actual control in the VC but nothing happens. It works just as advertised in the "3" version. The drop tank gauge entry is in the panel cfg so I'm not sure the cause.

As an option: The panel cfg's appear to the be same save for gauge 29 which I assume is responsible for the "slow spinup" for the props. If that is the case I assume I could swap out panels with no harm.

There are three ways to release the tank on the 3N. All of them work for me. See pics below.
Do not click the handle, only the icons and space indicated.

Drop tank

Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue, also only the -3N... I get the 'armed' and 'released' messages, but no movement of the release lever itself- and the tank stays there... What am I overlooking? -Mike Z.

Well, not sure how that happened but here is the solution:

In the contact points section, change this statement where you have a 7:

max_number_of_points = 9

As an explanation, the water rudder contact point was being ignored and therefore disabled the function to drop the tank.

EDIT: I am attaching a replacement aircraft.cfg with the aforementioned fix. If your tank does not drop, use this. I have also edited the archive to include this fix as version 1.1.

great shot, i'm glad i didn't ramp the alpha channels up you know... make her glossy like the rest, but night fighters weren't designed to be shiny. that image realls shows why that blue was perfect for the night sky... she blends in beautifully. great work team!

Tank Release

I find on my testing that there is a "T" handle just ahead of the throttle that drops the tank for me. I also tried the "arrow" and it didn't seem to have any affect. Perhaps I am doing something out of sequence but the Tank drops...Soooooooo I'm blissfully ignorant of what should be and happy with what is... I didn't notice any "arming" sequence....I just pushed the "T" handle and tank was gone...ooopsy glad the main tanks had fuel in them..
