F8F wip shots

We're soon to test out the firing capabilities ie rockets and droppables (if theres such a word)

Not to make a big deal out of it but all the Navy's Flight Exhibition Team (later called the Blue Angels) and all the F-8s we had on the carrier never had the second brace on the back of the canopy. The only one I ever saw was when Grumman pilot flew the prototype down to Jacksonville. Will it be available sans brace for us purists?

Here's a Blue with the second brace....and this is a late Blues shot since it carries the unit badge.

The latest video at the VS website is superb for showing how excellent the cockpit looks - well done deano and team :salute:

It appears the earlier models did not have the brace and the later models did have the brace...observe the Grumman factory photos (first pic'44) second pic a dash 2

Judging from a few of Bruce's screenies over at VS's website, looks like they're spot on with their dash-1 w/o brace and dash-2 with brace...well done.

Just watched the vid and have a question for Vertigo Studios. In the external views the prop hub looks wrong as shown compared to the blurred props. Will it be blurred too in the finished version? The impression it gives now is that there are no props in the hub at all until you look a bit further out and see the blurred edge of the blades.

The prop you see is an old prop that was used in early development, the new prop has the slow rotation for about 2.5 turns then bam she kins in.

Skyhawka4m, can you identify the carrier the Bearcat is being spotted on? There's something peculiar about the airplane. It shows the squardron crest and yet it wasn't designed until they were flying Phantoms. The F8s only had "Blue Angels" where yours has the crest. Plus the landing gear struts are painted black, not white. The propeller ID is not stenciled in place. It's a peculiar place they are spotting an aircraft. I have a hard time figuring what they are doing. Can you date the picture or provide some more details?

I believe the Blue Angels Crest came out a fair bit earlier than 1969 (when the Blues transitioned to the F-4). You see the crest as early as

My reading tells me it me it was designed by LT CDR Rhodes (don't know when exactly, but sometime between when he joined the team in '47 to '49, when it was approved by the CNO. Again, scholarly documents only, not from official naval documents - for what it's worth.

I do agree, however, that where the plane is being handled is an odd location ...

looks fantastic!! :jump:

If i may, not sure if its just the vid or my eyes, but the big metal thing with a dail to the right of the gunsight looks a little blurry compared to everything else :engel016:

Its not just me then. I was picking that up also. For something right in front of your face, its got a really low pixel resolution. Everything else looks fantastic though. Great lighting!
