Fairey Firefly

Hi, Doug.

Thought I'd :pop4: in and see if you got any more to post on the Firefly.

Didn't want you to think we forgot you. :icon29:

Well to update you, I've gone back and corrected a few things. For instance, the fuselage is oval shaped, and tapers to the rear, so window lines and where the wing join's the body have been a challenge. It might look correct from one angle, but messed up at another angle. I've also corrected the length and flow of the wings as they were a little off.

These things have to be correct before I map for textures, which I'm really looking forward to. I can't wait to see colors on this bird.:isadizzy:

Then there is the interior. I got a very informative letter from Milton on how to do this, and it's like building a whole new model. I need to find out more though. Just the other day I bought the WOP P-47 for inspiration. Wow, when you know what you're doing, this is the kind of detail possible. Those guys are amazing artists. So that's what I aspire to. A beautiful functioning interior with VC.

One thing that I believe I'm ready for is assistance on the flight dynamics. I am "borrowing" a .cfg from a Hurricane just to keep it in the air so I can determine trouble spots. I don't have, or know how to use AirWrench. So it taxis and flies very poorly at the moment. If anyone is up for it, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

Thank you guys for your interest and encouragement. It sure is a lot of fun doing this. One day soon enough she'll be ready for you. To be continued....

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey Doug,

That we've got Scrub's version doesn't mean you're off the hook now!:a1089:

Please continue the good work!:ernae::ernae::ernae:

Hi Guys thanks for asking. Still reshaping and getting rid or errors and rogue vertices. It's looking really great. I'll post some shots this afternoon for ya.
I had to redo some things because I thought of better ways to do them. So still working away when I can. Lots of work these days . I only get a few hours a week at the Firefly. Now, I figure, I'm in the final stretch of the exterior model. All animations are to my liking, now just fine tuning the shapes.:ernae:

Hi Guys and Happy Mother's Day to the Moms. Happy to report that I've finally conquered Mapping 101, the LithUnwrap method, thanks to my teacher Milton Shupe, applied some test paint on my Firefly and I can now give you some brand new screen shots taken today.

From this point I'd like to ask you guys about armament. I know the historic buffs would like to see accuracy here, so if you could help me with letting me know what you'd like to see hung under the wings ( cos I don't know ), send me a picture, give me a brief history of the significance perhaps, and I'll be able to make a few different configurations of this bird when it's released.

I also have a booklet with a few liveries. If you have particular versions of the Firefly FR 4, 5's I can then decide which should be featured in the release. I have an idea on the specific Firefly release, but I'd be curious to know what you guys think. Back to the drawing board... :jump:

firefly

Wow great work take my hat off to all your people that do this, and your firefly has now space made in my hanger, (marked on floor FIREFLY ONLY) lol hope to fly her soon thanks all you guys to nigel

Is nice to see members come together to make things happen..and help others in forward momentum. Seeing your Firefly come together Doug, is like reading a good book. Chapters just keep getting better.

I've searched for paints in the real world and come up with just a few that really got the look to grab the eye. One mainly light blueish-green, and the other was towards mocha brown and cream yellow. Very catchy schemes IMO.

Great progress Doug!!

I look forward to seeing the Firefly make it's long awaited appearance..

Greetings Cees, thanks for asking. Yes, I am back on track after a bit of a struggle with mapping. Then it all came to me and soon I was in a mapping frenzy. I want to make sure that the mapping is most practical for repaints. I'm very pleased with the outcome so far. You guys are gonna have a good time with those.

Things were going super smooth until I decided I couldn't put off the fine details of the Fairey-Youngman Flaps any longer. I'd been putting it off because I knew it would take me a couple days to smooth the animation. I had to go back and do some more research and was lucky to find a pdf doc. online with the actual degrees of movement. Gold! Just had to switch search engines to find it that's all...then like I suspected, it was difficult, and time consuming. But now finished.

Then my mouse died... I wore the bloody thing out! So I got a new one right away and I am back to making progress again.:jump:

Now that I am satisfied with the flap movement, and the related components, I will continue the exterior mapping ( nearly completed) and begin to focus on the interior. I have 1 shot of a cockpit. It's by no means an original authentic cockpit, it's been modified. I am hoping I can get permission at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to shoot the cockpit, from in the cockpit!

Well today being the first official long weekend holiday here in Canada, I'm off and looking forward to putting a few more hours on her. Hopefully I'll finish the exterior mapping, clone everything and link it to an interior node, and be able to see the first VC view in the sim later on. So excited!!!

I'm looking for loadout configurations if any of you guys can help. This way I can include a few variations with the release. Let me know what configurations you would like to see. And, if anyone has cockpit photos and would like to share, that would be amazing. Cheers Cees, enjoy your day!
