Just a poll on your favourite passenger cars

My favorite passenger car is the Pontiac Grand Am GT (1999 to 2004 style). I had a 99 with just a tad over 60,000 miles on the odometer, just a tad over 8,000 miles on the brand new GM replacement crate motor. Was in tip top condition (other than a broken break line). The speedometer was registered for 150 MPH...I had it to 140 on a number of occasions...to hit the 150 mark the car really needed to be lowered about 1.5 inches, have a bigger front air dam and a larger real spoiler...it got squirmy at 140 and I did not want to press my luck trying to peg the speedo.

I don't see my fav on the list either, I have to say my all time fav is my current ride a PT Cruiser... OK stop laughing... seriously, I really like this car, it handles very well, and it is comfortable, even the back seat offers a very comfortable ride, and I really like the way the rear seats fold up to give extra cargo space, it is a great design.

I also kind of like the way I brought the wife around to my way of thinking on the "Cruiser", we went out car shopping, and I told her I wanted to look at cruisers, she said "there is NO WAY I am getting one of those, they look stupid!" We drove around to a few lots, and test drove a nice Intrepid, when I pulled back into the lot, I parked beside a PT, and said "come on lets just take it for a short test drive". I drove it down to a local mall and got her behind the wheel to drive it back, when we got back to the lot the salesmen said he wanted to show us a demo that was just avaliable, she looked at him and said "no thanks, this is what I want"...lol Mission Accomplished!

The main reason your fav cars aren't on the list is because here in NZ we don't really see many American cars (Not that I have anything against American cars), we mainly have the Australian & Japanese cars

Yuk..the only PT Cruiser I drove was a gutless, ill handling bucket of cr..p. Maybe it was just that one.

Many people from the States (ie a good chunk of this forum) are going to wonder what the heck is a Holden Commodore....and wheres the Ford Falcon? .. you are obviously a Holden fan.

My favourite car..depends what day it is ..Porsche 911, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Jaguar XF..can't afford any of them but I can dream.

I'm gonna have to go with this vote too ... and just for the record you could have put a none button up there.

Reason for none vote here is that I don't drive anything that low to the ground. I've been driving pickups (4x4s as a rule, not jacked up either,) since 1979. I'll never go back to a car. Pickups are great utilitarian vehicles, and their line of sight while driving is way above any automobile on the highway, plenty of time to react to every and any situation usually from a pickup's driver's seat.

I'm gonna have to go with this vote too ... and just for the record you could have put a none button up there.

Pickups are great utilitarian vehicles, and their line of sight while driving is way above any automobile on the highway, plenty of time to react to every and any situation usually from a pickup's driver's seat.

Just to give Snuffy a little grief...
He missed the two big 4x4s (Landcruiser & Patrol) on the list. Although I really can't count the Landcruiser as a serious off-road rig anymore...It's become too civilized.

So for me, it's the Nissan Patrol (even though we can't get them in the states except for the odd import that probably found it's way in through Canada or Mexico.
For an off-road toy, I want a 2nd generation Patrol (made from '60 up to '80). But for an all-around highway & hunting rig, I'd love to get my hands on an early 90's model with the TD42 diesel.

Until then, I'll settle for my old Hardbody (erm...Navarra for you guys down under). But, somebody down there please send me a TD27 diesel for it! :d

i suppose being a family man, i should pick something as close to a family car as i could stand, if i was able to choose whatever i want. like everyone else, i didn't see my choices on the list.

i will say this in defense of the PT cruiser. i rented one back in 2003 for 9 days. i thought, at that time, it was a pretty useful car, and was kinda cool lookin. i wouldn't mind owning one, as long as it was the turbo version.

Me too. I drive a pickup. Bought my first one in 1981 and have had one ever since. Currently I have a 2008 Silverado 1/2 ton, extended cab, 2 wheel drive with the 5.3 liter engine. I gave my previous pickup to my son when I bought the '08. It's a 1999 Silverado 1/2 ton, extended cab, 2 wheel drive with the 4.8 liter engine. The '99 has ~190,000 miles on it now.

I pretty much grew up with Ford trucks and Dodge cars. Had a few GMs though too.
The folks till have my old '76 F150 in use as a farm truck too....their '73 GMC suffered the usual 30 years of abuse and just plain rusted away. It still runs great but it looks like something Fred Flintstone would drive with those big holes in the cab floor (and everywhere else).

Ford's newer trucks...I can't bring myself call em that anymore. They're oversized soccer-mom haulers. Not sure why ya need leather seats and a soggy suspension in a 4x4 that is supposed to be able to work for a living.
My '97 F150 is a under-powered, weak-tranny POS that can't even haul a 5x16 stock trailer much less my 7x20 flatbed without having a nervous breakdown. My little '90 Hardbody pulls either one just fine...and it's just a 4-cylinder.
And off-road, these new big luxury lummoxes can't go half of the places that a smaller truck will.

Yep, I'm a small truck convert. I still like my old '76 High-Boy but if it's newer than an '80s model I'll stick with my Nissans.

...and just about fully recycable.

"Trabi" was one of my first spoken words. Along with "Skoda", "Wartburg", "Wolga" and "Moskvich".
This was basically everything that hit the road in pre-1990s east Berlin.

We've never owned a Trabi though. My grandparents had an old one (500 series) though while my other grandparents had a Skoda 100 which my parents always borrowed when we wanted to go on holidays (Baltic coast or Müritz or other holiday locations in the former GDR).
After the wall came down and before the reunification, my parents bought a Nissan Micra. This thing lasted for over 15 years without any technical malfunction at all and had only 140000km on the trip counter when a motorcycle ended it's life prematurely.
Great car and nicely to drive.
Now mom drives a Skoda Fabia. Solid car, but it isn't gonna be as legendary as the Micra. Dad has a 2009 VW Passat. Nice thing.

Anyways, back to the Trabant: Sadly there's only a small number left huffing and puffing along the roads but fortunately there's quite a number of fan clubs around. :d

There is not one American car on the list. Sorry but I like my present Chrysler 300C SRT8. 425 Hp and 0-60 times of 5 sec., better than 160mph capability, with all the comforts and accessories of any other car. Regards, Bob.
