I have acquired the donationware corsair anthology and i found one probelem.

THE F4U-4 WON'T START!!!!!!!!

Is there a way to fix it?

BvANKL,

Unzip this into a temp location. Copy the entire header section of your current model's aircraft.cfg and paste/overwrite it into the same location of the cfg from this zip file. The header section is everything at the top like this:

[fltsim.0]
title=FDG2_F4U-4 Corsair VF-61
sim=F4U4
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
KB_checklists = F4U-4_Check

After overwriting and saving the changes in this new cfg, move it into your F4U folder along with the air file. Choose 'YES' when prompted to replace your current files. If you're running Vista or Win 7 with UAC turned on, you may have some problems with overwrites and replacements...just work it out.

Is it compatible with the F4U-4B?

I've managed to use the config and air file of the 1% F4U-4 and F4U-4B and used the contact points for the FDG F4U-4 and 4B from the FDG Historical performance update.

Thanks for your help though, bearcat.

Boeing,

My neglect is responsible for causing this problem. When I created the performance pack for the FDG fighters, I made a mistake or two. In order to achieve the proper performance, I adjusted the power and thrust scalars. The thrust scalar can be adjusted without much trouble, but on most aircraft models, if you drop the [piston_engine] scalar down below 1.0, you can end up with the engine not starting. If you look in the aircraft.cfg file and scroll down a bit, you'll see two entries that look like this...

[piston_engine]
power_scalar=0.92

[propeller]
thrust_scalar=1.08

This is why the engine will not start. To fix, all you have to do is invert the numbers so they look like this...

[piston_engine]
power_scalar=1.08

[propeller]
thrust_scalar=0.92

And this will maintain the performance that I created for it, and your engine will start just fine!

Please accept my humble apologies.

I did the original air files for the F4U-4..... The performance in the original FS9 files should be spot on. Starting, if used in a seperate sim may need the starter torque adjusted. Find that in the .cfg file.

THANK YOU, Drew ! :salute:

This qualifies as the best save of November - I have a special corner of the Hangar for "No Starts".... and this fixed EVERY ONE of them ! :wiggle:

sc7500,

These are the things you come across by accident when you start fiddling around with stuff...the gremlins come out of the woodwork. Sometimes it pays to have an investigative streak...
