First pictures of the PMDG DC-6 for MSFS!

Tim- you can't hide it, but it isn't intrusive- you can keep it down (as I do) and you have to actually look down from the left window to see it- it works BEAUTIFULLY. Out of sight, until you need to do something with it.

For you Jan, and Manfred, and Alex and Gordo and Ted and the others... but this time 2 is only 1/2 the story ;)

The Eagle eyed amongst you will notice that I'm in a cruising descent- power pulled back a bit and a shallow descent. DME 2 says we are still 20 minutes out of PJM and we are going to detour south towards GOUDA to put us nicely in for a Localizer intercept. The power isn't too far back and the engines are thermal stable.

You can see the Cowls are now tightly shuttered (-2) to keep the heat IN and we are homing on the Julianna VOR on both sides. The pressurization is keeping up nicely and the Start Marker has the destination field altitude preset.

We were heavy this afternoon (it was a wet takeoff out of San Juan) and so we let her run to the end to backtrack, and saved the brakes a bit. Here you can see her, getting ready to turn around, with everything hanging out- Flap 50, Cowls fully open for the Caribbean heat... and just starting a 180 to the ramp.

these images are incredible - MSFS and a proper model just change the game completely.

Makes me wonder if there will come a time in MSFS when you can select a calendar year along with the other parameters of a flight- say 1965 - and have all of the PG and vehicles rendered to be period correct...

Loving the cargo version

WOW!! You lucky dog ! :encouragement:

Thanks for all the wonderful screenies, Carl, both here and over at avsim, she really looks totally amazing! Love the engine nacelles shots! Not really shown in the videos but is it possible to see engine start-up from external view ? You know, smoke and fire belching... ;-) Can't remember how it was in P3D (can't imagine how long ago that already is or atleast feels like!.. ;-) When it comes to that i have actually not seen any significant smoking start-up event in MSFS at all yet.... We all know that the PMDG crew always go extra miles when it comes to sophisticated detailing, so can you maybe elaborate a bit on the DC-6 external view start-up department, Carl ? ( f.i. can we have keys for the starter switches ?..)

On a side note: did you ever see Michael Palin's doc 'Pole to Pole' ? A.o. they fly from Tierra del Fuego, Argentinië to the Patriot Hills at Antarctica in a DC-6. I have seen the whole documentary many years ago, it's fantastic, but i remember the DC-6 Antarctica flight as the most interesting (of course ;-). If you missed it here is the 8 minutes sequence : https://youtu.be/jW3GB7D1NrQ?t=540

Keep the PMDG DC-6 news coming, Carl. Thank you! :ernaehrung004:

In the engine start tutorial it's noted they're waiting for Asobo to add the emitter controls for engine smoke, PMDG are looking forward to smoke-belching radials too! Still some things to com but sounds like this is going to be breaking all sorts of new ground for MSFS addons and really bringing it into the fore as the next-gen sim

Jan-

It is an Alpha version and work continues. Thanks for the documentary, I will watch it (as I do anything with antique aeroplanes), most appreciated! Here's something for you from this morning's flight-
