First release of the freeware D-Day Project

D-Day-Courseulles-300sq-150x150.jpgYAY !!! Only 4 days 'late'........ *sigh*. There's always MORE work than one anticipates in releasing a software package. But now it is done. The delay was caused by me wanting to make the User Manual more explicit, and by having the installer tested by a few more people. All seems okay now...... but hey, this is software development, so no doubt something will go haywire anyway!

Included in the package (and please, please, PLEASE read the manual FIRST!) are the freeware FSAddon libraries and the first of a series of D-Day modules; Courseulles-sur-Mer. The project is based upon FranceVFR/FSAddon's Normandy 1944 for FSX product, but can be used 'as is' as well...... up to you.

Oh, and did I mention it is FREE? Officially that means NO SUPPORT. But me being me and knowing myself I also know that such will never happen...... just hope you all get it working and will be patient enough to wait for the PATCHES and further development !

Oh, where to find it? Check out the Download tab on the FSClassics website and click on FREE STUFF...... that's where !

No need to register for anything, just click on the FREE STUFF link and it takes you to the page where the downloads are (click on the pictures to get them).

Just go to the FSClassics.com site and to the download page there then? www.fsclassics.com (I haveno idea why you shouldn't be able to see what I see there?) <scratching head="">*scratching head*</scratching>

Phew !!! :02.47-tranquillity:

Next thing I am working on is to complete the Courseulles phases and to correct/expand some of the 'Attack' objects.

In parallel work continues on modeling the Arromanches/Mulberry module.

Already 200+ downloads, wow !! This (almost) more fun than producing payware :fox:

Started work on an LCA now.......

Francois....thanks for this project. Used the A2A P-51 from Caen and flew a couple passes over Juno beach, then a couple of circuits around the fleet. Love the sounds and effects....great artillery splashes amongst the landing craft. Sim stuttered a bit on the approach to the area from Caen, but steadied up nicely when (I guess) all the objects, effects and the like were loaded. Upon initial install, I got some "scenery area not found" messages.....when the Sim loaded, I disabled the entries it had made and created a D-Day folder with FSX....put your packages in there, then restarted the Sim and enabled the libraries and the Assault scenery in the usual manner....no problems. This has the potential to be a BIIIIG! project. All the best with it, and thanks again.
Terry

Hi Terry and many thanks for your comments. Do you know what scenery entries the installer had made that weren't correct !?

Sorry ....don't recall for sure, but there were three messages. I believe two were for the libraries. I don't expect your installer to have been the problem in this case...most surely something I did on this end.
Terry

Hi Francois,
I got the same messages Scenery.cfg error for Area.315, Area.316, Area.320.

(I have screensots of the error available if you need them)
Those areas are indeed not in my scenery.cfg

Cheers,
Kasper

Strange..... what I do in the installer is pick up the LAST entry in your existing scenery.cfg, then ADD ONE and make a new entry (6 in total), and repeat this 5 times more. Even with things going wrong only having THREE wrong entries is mysterious :)
I'll experiment some more to see if I can in any way reproduce this..... If you could send me the LAST part of your scenery.cfg, it might help me understand what could have gone wrong....

Francois,
If I activate everything I get errors on Area.315, -316, -317, -318, -319, and -320

I'll send you the scenery.cfg from ..\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX by PM but apparently it hasn't changed since 2007 - which is interesting considering the amount of add-on scenery installed.

Cheers,
Kasper

Found it after searching for scenery.cfg. which gave an impressive list (before I received your PM)
Of course I had to look in ProgramData\Miscrosoft\FSX ...
Thanks for the help

Check PM
