Fixes for the Shupe/Carroll FSX native Beech 18

The package payload is going to be more labor intensive than I thought because I have to model and texture boxes that actually fit through the narrow door. :dizzy:
A true cargo model (like the C-45 Expediter) is not an option since it involves extensive interior and fuselage (cargo door!) modifications.

Regarding P3Dv3.x support: You guys are out on your own. Don't have it, don't want it.

Ah, thanks Bjoern ... that sure brings some life to a 12 year old model (originally released in 2005).

Surely does. They are, after all, intended to bring some detail to models without expending thousands of additional polys.

BTW, just successfully exported my first FSX native aircraft test, of course without all the necessary changes, but it worked. So, I am now in full learning mode.

Looks great!
I've played with the thought of converting your civvie Lockheeds, but I have way too little time to keep up my interest enough to see it through. Especially since I only need a test bed for my RealEngine rework in the first place.

Neat! I'll include your fixes in the next release, if I may.

Hi Milton, does my heart a world of good to see you tinkering over here. I was over in FS9 earlier today trying to get the B-26 up.

Of course you can, it is a honor to me,

And many thanks for your great work, Bjoern. :encouragement:

I tried to give the glass textures more reflections,
But unfortunately without success.
The glass is hardly visible in fsx.

By the way, I converted the Beech AT-11 Civil,
with good results, only the cockpit, still needs a lot of attention. :cower:
if you're interested . . .

Looking forward to flying the updated Beech Twin, Milton's twins have always been winners for my flying prefs. As for seeing Milton export to fsx, that's got "good idea" all over it :jump:

I've played with the thought of converting your civvie Lockheeds,

That would be a real treat, those civvie lockheeds are wonderful flyers already.
And as Willy knows, they paint well :- )

Milton?? Working on the Dark Side??? Not sure what to make of it, but I'd bet money it turns out great.

Yeah, I'm hoping post #34 becomes one of those 'I was there when . . .' moments.

Thanks to Milton and Bjoern for this latest Beech 18 goodness.

Interesting problem. After the last update my vc glass is clear for a couple seconds then becomes cloudy. Can't see though it at all. The 2D cockpit has perfectly clear glass. Any idea?

Found my problem was in the D18S_reflection.dds. Solved my own clouded glass. What a great aircraft.

Here is a quick repaint done with the newly supplied paint kit.

And if you want a true cargo 18, then I would suggest something like an E18S.

Yep, would require a new fuselage, wings, etc., but you could reuse most of the tail and the landing gear, so that's a start. Right? :biggrin-new:

Yes, that would be nice, but I know that would also be an entirely new build. The flight sim world can dream of an E18, can't we?

And by the way, Bjoern, thank you for your continued contributions to the flight sim world, they are most appreciated. :applause:

Does anybody have some information or pictures of the windscreen wipers?

If I already have rain on the windscreen, I might as well add something to do away with it. As far as I've seen, wipers were an optional item though.

I changed the transparency method for the glass from a fixed alpha value to an alpha channel, but didn't touch the exterior model.
Will therefor have to update the exterior as well. I just hope that there aren't any custom animations or visibilities...

It doesn't really fit into the package; sorry.

No time, but since Milton seems to be interested in the whole FSX-native-model deal, here's hoping for a conversion straight from the modeler's hands.

See my reply to postbaer. I changed the glass properties to default transparent (alpha channel!) from a fixed alpha value, but didn't do the same for the exterior model.
Will require an update.

You're welcome, but I won't touch an E18 with a ten foot pole for the sheer number of differences.

Bjoern:

I'm trying your download link in your Post #20 but this is all I get. Will not "Download Anyway" -- any suggestions ??

Yeah, and I remember when a certain someone who was modifying turboprops say that he would never touch a piston powered prop project. Now look at what he's been doing! :biggrin-new: Not saying anything, just saying. :mixed-smiley-010:

But he's doing a most excellant job of it!

Bjoern,

Attached is about 30 pics of the 18 with wipers. Maybe they will be helpful. I also have modeled wipers in other projects that I could create a model from if you have a way of getting them into the D18S.

RE: FSX native work, my main objective is not so much going native FSX as establishing an FSX modeling capability so that I can get "HMS Victory" in the sim. It is over 200K polys and not possible in FS9. I am working on the Marauder native for FSX but unsure if I will finish that as I have three FS9 projects in progress and actively approaching final stages.

Regardless of changing preferences, I still do not take requests and suggestions usually got directly into the mental recycling bin. :a1310:

Thanks!

Well, the method is a bit complicated and involves 3ds Max, editing the .x file with a text editor and compiling. I've added (fixed) parts to models before, but never with additional, animated parts.

Bjoern,

The wipers I have are not animated and IMO not worth the investment to get them in game.

I have quit adding moving rain some years ago as most people no longer want it; guess the fad is over. :)

If it were me, I would just remove the movingrain polys and effects and be done with it. That's just my opinion, not a recommendation. This is your work and you are doing a great job.

If I keep this up, it might even eventually start to look somewhat metallic....
