Fixes for the Shupe/Carroll FSX native Beech 18

Here's some cropped down to the area in question and I've marked what is what that I know of so far. (the bits aren't marked in the paint kit and had to figure them out for myself) FWIW, I'm still trying to sort out which side is which on the cowlings and nacelles. I keep getting them tangled up. That Santa Fe was a total b___h to get the lines to match up.

I flipped yours to match the paint kit orientation.

Playing around with the propblades and spinner a bit while trying to get stripe lines to match up. Got the blades a bit darker than I like, the antiglare is washed out (forgot to white that out in the alpha) and somehow ended up with black chrome on the spinner. That black chrome look is going to be filed away for future reference.

Well, I guess you made lemons with lemon aide :biggrin-new:

Actually, I've seen some paints that had that "Black Chrome" look. Do you use just the DXTBMP to fiddle with the spinners or do you need to send it to your paint program?

I'm curious as to how you isolate the spinner and then change the alpha to get the chrome shine on it?

Willy,

I just sent you a PM. Maybe you can autopsy the files I sent you and can come up with a clue on the chrome effect that was used therein.

The material of the spinner uses the texture's inverted alpha to blend the environment map. Make sure to restart FSX after every texture change since, more often than not, it will simply reload a previously cached textures than reading it anew from disk.

In other news:
Copy-pasting to and from .x files to accomodate a cargo version was too much work to be feasible, so I need to take the long road and basically retexture and reanimate the entire model. This will make implementing changes much easier.
On the bright side, the cargo version will match the one from Milton's original release, i.e. full sized boxes and the additional cargo door.

Maybe I'll add the amphibian variation for good measure.

Anyone have a link to his Lockheed Loadstar for FSX?

I never touched the Lodestar.

Well, I use it in P3D and your explanation was as clear as the Mississippi mud that is not far from where I live. :biggrin-new:

Willy, that black chrome is what we need on the oleo suspension; hard to get that blue steel looking right.

Movie Star

Arguably with the possible exception of Matt Younkin's black & red one, the most famous Beech 18 of all time.

I think it's pretty much ready (except for packaging up) but it'll be tomorrow at the earliest as I want to go over it some more tonight.

I see you went with the black shine on those spinners that you discovered by accident. Not too shabby.

Its-A-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-World Beech 18 Hangar Stunt

And it was damaged when flown through a billboard. Busted the windscreen, banged up the leading edges and stopped one engine. The pilot later said that he was not going to fly that stunt again.

Hello.
Very nice plane to fly.
But I didn't find any trim wheel on VC ?
Francis

Francis,

On the original, the rudder trim was on the floor next to the seat, right side.
The aileron trim was overhead.
I suspect it is the same with this model unless it got changed.
