Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.XVI released!

Flight Replicas has just announced that their Spitfire Mk.XVI will be released "very soon". It will be great to have a good bubble canopy Spitfire in FS2020, with compatibility in FS2024. Here's one of their promo shots to whet our appetites. More info at their Facebook page. HERE.

It's out! Grabbed it this morning -- a very reasonable $12.49! No time to fly it till tonight, but anxious to check it out.
 
Purchased and downloading. Very reasonable price indeed! (13,99€ over here)
 
Indeed a beauty. How does she (mis)behave on the runway? No steerable tailwheel, lots of torque, running of the runway and dipping a wing?
 
Hitherto I have not been that convinced by these guys - I bought the Mk V and didn't think it was up to the FlyingIron standards? This is my favourite Mk of Merlin Spit so I do hope its up to snuff? I'd also be interested to know if we can use the modern day pilot avatar? Any reviews out yet?
 
Got to admit, my first flights in the Mk.XVI yesterday were just "for the heck of it" to enjoy the visuals. I did not really focus on the flight dynamics. But I will comment on the Mk.V. I had problems with that one, which I reported to the developer. The aircraft would mysteriously bank when I pulled the stick back, or moved it forward. It was not my controls. The fix was to activate "auto rudder" in FS. Not a perfect solution, but workable. Not sure if this was updated as I have never checked. I will fly the Mk.XVI again this week and pay more attention to the flight characteristics. I will also check pilot avatar, but I suspect it will only be the one within the model itself, which is fine by me as it is an RAF wartime pilot. I actually wish that pilot was available to all aircraft.

Only one guy (usually - not counting testers). One of the testers works with real Spitfires and Hurricanes in the UK and said he thinks it's the best out there - also flies the FI version - but he' s not a pilot. No modern avatar.

I flew the Mk.XVI again this morning. Unlike the FI, I did not have to fight it to keep it controllable on the runway. It comes down to personal choice I think, as ultimately the pleasant experience for one simmer might be a nightmare for another. For my money, I thoroughly enjoyed the flight today, as indeed I appreciate most of what Mike does. More images from today's flight being posted shortly in the screenshots section.

This weekend, I'll have to redo my controller assignments and then I'll fly the wings of this thing!

Can you do one test? Just taxi and move the rudder NOT the brakes. Does the tailwheel move with the rudder? This will make taxiing and take-off much easier but is not real spitfire.

Took it to Old Warden, there to meet up with an old friend from Flying Iron.
His soundtrack was notably bigger than mine.

There's a whole bunch of Spitfires out there in the real world, too, that look pretty much the same.
 
In reply to the tailwheel question.

Sitting on the ground in this model, and not moving, the rudder pedals do not activate the tailwheel movement. Start to move forward, and the tailwheel does turn with the use of rudder. But not sure if this is because of turning physics as opposed to mechanical linkage.

I imagine even the mightiest Merlin sounds like a lawnmower through a modern helmet & headset, otherwise how do these these guys ever talk to ATC??
