FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

Are the FSD forums working? I submitted a request there, but there's no evidence that my message was added to the thread.

The word is yoke, btw. :icon_lol:

I was told that the forum was working fine with IE but not with Firefox , and you need to register , is there something we can help you with here for here for moment?

Actually, I did register, so that part works in FF. Here are the problems I'm having (all in the restored "modern" cockpit, btw):

1. Clicking on the face of the GPS unit doesn't call up a zoomed version, although the tooltip says it does. Same for the radio.

2. There seems to be no pitot heat switch in the modern cockpit, but there's definitely a "pitot heat" warning annunciator. There are a pair of alternator switches, too, but no generator switches, and the "L Gen" and "R Gen" warnings stay illuminated during flight as a result.

3. Should there be a way to hide the yoke? I haven't found it yet, and there's no usable top-down view of the engine starting switches. Even with a TrackIR, it's difficult to situate myself so I can see and operate the switches.

thanks,
Bill

There are camera views on the A key for getting to those switches , i dont believe there are popups of the gns and radios installed but its a good idea and can be arranged, thanks for the input Bill we will add those popups into the build , should be out in a couple of days while we collect feedback.
Thanks Again !

The be quite frank here, the old forum we have installed now just plain sucks. You might get some action if you use Internet Explorer, but it still sucks.

We are in the process of bringing a more up to date forum on line, but could not get it done for the P38 release. You can always get us directly from our Support page, or by mailing to supportdesk@fsd-international.com.

We think we can get all of the old accounts from our present forum into the new one. But the old messages it does not seem likely. The database it uses was created during the Carter administration.

Since I can't post on the FSD forums, I will post here.

I have just installed the Retail P-38. I am running into some problems. Whenever I select the Restored varient, my FSX freezes. It will load up and go into game but then it will immediately freeze and I have to ctrl+alt+del to get out of it. The Older varients work fine. There is another user having the same problem as me and we have roughly the same system config. I participated in the Beta and I have never had this problem up until the retail version. I am running Vista 64 SP2, and Acceleration.

For a quick fix just use Chuck's new file in his post. I found the problem having to do with one of the drivers that had some debugging detection built in. Works fine on 99% of systems, but the 1% other is unacceptable. That driver has been replaced and the installers on our site have been updated.

I was so close to reply "no surprise that it sucks" but figure that was Clinton.:bump:
Sorry guys, couldn't resist.

Great plane, install went fine without problems.
I just had a minor issue with a dead link in the confirmation e-mail.
Came around by getting the link from viewing the e-mails's source code.
might as well be some security-related things on my PC.

Just a note to let everyone know that I am still working on the demo installer. Family concerns (my wife is up my ***) have slowed me down. I still plan on having it ready tonight or tomorrow morning.

Sorry for the delay, but I don't want to rush it out the door. I want to be sure everything works properly.

They all (wife)have a tendency to do that!!

Been with mine 36 years on the 12th of this month!

I noticed that the flap lever in the VC does not move if you use the joystick buttons to extend/retract the flaps. All other aircraft that I have (Accel F/A-18, Aerosoft F16 & Wings of Power P51 to name a few) the VC flaps position will change as you extend/retract flaps with the joystick buttons.

Also the only thing that I can find for manuals is a couple of htm documents, one is 14 pages and the other is 2 pages, is this all the documentation that there is?

Please advise.

Thanks for the reply, Chuck. There are indeed other "A key" views, but the one of the switches is at an oblique angle and fairly low down, so you can't see the labels properly. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how a cold start works, and that would help.

thanks,

I hope I don't seem like I'm piling on, but there's one more general website issue that FSD should be aware of. The main page uses Flash for the navigation, and in the 64-bit version of MSIE, there's no Flash support yet. Essentially, this means that users coming to the site are blocked at the door and can't enter. This is the reason web developers generally don't rely on Flash for mission-critical navigation. In this case, you could alleviate the problem by offering alternate content for browsers that aren't Flash-enabled.

P38 Pilot Handbook can be found in the main fsx directory in the FlightSim Developers folder under Pilot Manuals.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>
All the levers switches and knobs in this aircraft are custom animations with the sole exception of the gear lever and will only respond to direct mouse input , the Flaps lever is rigged to stop at the indents of the flaps positions as per the manual and uses right and left mouse clicks to activate the flaps. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>

To start the aircraft first click on the inertial starter and listen for it to spool up then click on the switch to its right to engage ,these are multiposition switches and are for both engines, dont forget to have the mags on ! , instructions are in the manual and a photo below illustrates the process . <o:p></o:p>

<o:p>Hope this helps , regarding the forum software at FSD , its a constant bother and we are grateful that SOH allows the developers to use its services to help folks with their questions about our products </o:p>

Well I decided to not wait for the demo and i just went ahead and bought it. After a few flights im pleased with it, getting great frames over Los Angeles, havent tried any other cities yet. I do have one observation, the redbull p-38, judging from the model and the story it doesnt have turbos correct? yet the turbo whine is present when flying her. Aside from that im happy with the purchase and look forward to the paints!

Excellent job, Kevin/FSD ! :applause:

As for the Yoke, i'm with Bill. Very nicely modeled but it's huge ! ( and i'm having a 3D one in front of me already.. ) Would be nice indeed to be able to start the engines without having to use the secondary views. If i adjust VC view to my fav position the Yoke starts blocking up the Altimeter a.o. :

I'm having a texture anomalie on the lower windscreen frame ( see pic ) This with all models but the Red Bull.

I can only start the left engine, at second atempt the right engine's flywheel won't engage anymore.... ( have to use Ctrl/E... :blind: )

I miss a bit of cockpit reflection on the VC glass...

On a nitpicking side note : no WWII pilot in his right state of mind would wear his goggles unless absolutely necessary ( bail out, windscreen gone, or colored glass to deal with heavily bright sunlight )

Otherwise, state of the art ! :ernae:

Cheers,
Jan

I take it that a consensus has developed regarding a disappearing yoke , it’s something i resisted because it was supposed to be part of the “ P-38 experience “ but am now convinced its one of those little conveniences that has its place in this situation and so it shall be added.
The spool up sound will only play once per engine but the engage switch will turn the engine over as long as the starter switch is positioned on the engine in question .

There is Startup and shutdown smoke , as well engine damage smoke , flameout flames and detonation sound effects under the right ( wrong ) conditions.
I will need to verify all the files were shipped with the installer , thanks for the headsup
