• There seems to be an up tick in Political commentary in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site we know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religiours commentary out of the fourms.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politicion will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment amoung members. It is a poison to the community. We apprciate compliance with the rules.

Flightsim.to is most irritating, exasperating, and vexatious

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but Flightsim.to is the hardest to use download site I have ever used. It is constantly asking if I am a damn robot. I tell it no when it loads, and when I try to download something, it asks again. I only go there now when I really need something they might have, like a livery or AOA template.

In the past I would purchase an airport or two, now and then. Not anymore. It is too much trouble.

Is it me (I am not a Premium member), or does everybody have trouble with this site?

I'm not a paid member there, and the site has been noticeably acting up for me just in the past few days - times when downloads won't work, server errors, or images won't even load. With regard to the robot question, if I get them going in a short enough period of time, I can usually get up to four downloads before having to check that I'm not a robot. I still like it more than the current Flightsim.com - on .to, it's always been easy to find exactly what I'm looking for, and know immediately when there are updates to my favorite addons/past downloads.

I find it difficult to navigate tbh, although it's a great resource. Recently, I keep getting an error when i click back in my browser and have to refresh.

I am a paid member, and I’ve been getting a ton of the “not a robot” checks this week.

My guess is that they’re dealing with some kind of Internet idiots doing bad stuff and they’re having to ramp up the checks. Hopefully it’s temporary.

I agree with others, I hate the site, to represents to me the worst of modern websites. Unfortunately people are uploading MSFS freeware their rather than the sites that existed before (flightsim.com/avsim/sim-outhouse).

If you aren't already using it, the uBlock Origin extension for Chrome seems to cut down significantly on the number of countdowns and such on fs.to.

There's still some, but the extension cuts it down to the point where I usually only have to check the "I'm a human" box to get into the site initially, then a single box check to download something.

Indeed, I use it too! Very good when using youtube too!

I still go to the traditional sites first, because I feel they have accompanied me for almost the entire 40+ years of this hobby.
So FS.com and AVSIM will always be my favorite sources for downloads and information.
However because of the way these sites work, some new creators do not upload there. Which is unfortunate.

I agree there are issues there but it's basically the only site with MSFS related downloads. There are a few other random files scattered across the internet.

I think the site is so sluggish now because they want people to sign up for premium membership. From what I understand the downloads are much faster if you do that. I think may have throttled regular users because it wasn't always this slow. I've been a premium member off and on (whenever I can get it free due to my numerous uploads of repaints lol).

The sluggishness of the site isn't a huge reason to skip it imo - sometimes I just try to get on at a different time.

Regarding the search engine - I agree it isnt' fabulous. Unfortunately I think that uploaders don't add search terms into their files... and the site isn't smart enough I guess to find keywords. For example when I make a paint I add terms like "cessna, my username, the N number I'm painting, the addon model, etc" to allow people to find my stuff.

edit: I would recommend just googling the file you want haha - it seems to pull up the direct link everytime for me!

I love the site, much more logical layout than the old sites once you are used to it.
The older sites aren't designed for the volume of freeware that is out there vs the early 2000s in my opinion
I do use Ublock though.
I get the robot question the first time I do a download for the session but it does not repeat if I do multiple.
clicking a not a robot box once is a small price to pay for all the effort that goes into that site.
In fact it makes me feel like I am in an Isaac Asimov novel
I live in the 21st century, I ain't got no anti grav car yet but I am helping fight off robots!

Highly, highly recommend Windsailor for downloads and updates.

Makes it super easy to install and track updates, especially if you use an addon linker with folder organization.

For instance, if I download a Seattle scenery, I select my Scenery/USA/WA folder for the download. It downloads and installs it there. Then, if that scenery is ever updated, if I download the update, it deletes the old version and downloads and installs the new version in the same folder I'd chosen before, so you only choose the folder on the initial download.

Not sure how you get there from here.....both of the older sites have a pretty much straight forward interface with a searchable library with categories etc.
As for the volume....file sizes are much larger now, that is true but there is also much less new stuff on a daily or weekly basis.
