Flying Boats

Um ... yes, a few ... 199 entries in flightsim.com - a good portion of which are FS9

Jens Kristensen did Short Sandringhams, Solents, Calcuttas, and a very non-short list of more flying boats that will keep you bailing water for a very long time.

Kazu Ito did a Marlin, and a pile of funky Luftwaffe boats ...

Richard Alexander van Hien made some of the Latecore French boats, as did Alexander Belov.

Mike Stone made a PBY, as did Alphasim, Wim Regeer did some interwar German boats, Vladimir Zhyhulskiy made a Beriev, and the Schneider Trophy packages (9 if memory serves) has more flying boats than you likely ever thought possible. Not a single rubber wheel in sight for miles! :)

Search for flying boat as a scenery also - there's a great Hawaiian package for the Pan Am Martin boats, and my personal favourite, the Harry Levy Sunderland adventure/scenery pack. You'll fly from Scotland to the bowels of Africa never touching tarmac. The AI alone is worth the price of admission, which like most of these gems, is amazingly free with some minor installation tweaks.

The "two big" sites and THE OLD HANGAR are where you'll dig these out - I'm sure they'll give you more hours of entertainment than the average seaplane flight ... :)

I like this one, the Martin 130, by Jens B. Kristensen. Look for m130_v10.zip, at AVSIM. It will show up as an FSX plane, but it works in both.
 
Hot damn Delta. Sounds like you researched the flying boat topic dry. Was this a pre-researched topic. Seems like days worth of searching from the likes of your infos.

I recall only one flying boat type. Sikorsky S-39 or S-39 that I came across here. Mahogany red hull and green alligators.....err somethin like that.
 
Look for Bill Lyons Golden Hawaii pack. Former payware and has what is IMHO the best flying boat out there for FS. The Sikorsky S43.
 
Ito and AlphaSim both have Mavis flying boats. Ito's is on SImviation.com, AlphaSim's in on their site under Freeware. With the AS Mavis, look under my uploads and grab the Mavis panel set and sounds I uploaded for CFS2...they work just fine in FS2004.

Jens B. Kristensen has done a slew of flying boats...his Martin 130 is a pure joy to fly.

NCGent did up a nice Fairchild F-91, which I am working on updating a bit with new skins, specular shine...really need to finish that one up.

Bill Lyons did a nice Sikorski S-43 and it is part of the Golden Hawaii package, which can be found on Flightsim.com and TheOldHanger.com (not sure of the name of that site for sure).

There are Sikorski S-38s and S-39s on Simviation.com and Flightsim.com that are nice. Can't remember who did them...but do a search for Sikorski on either site and you will be sure to find them. The S-39 has an update package that fixes the upper fuselage area. I uploaded some fictional skins for the S-39 to the library here on SOH.

AlphaSim released their A-90 Russian flying boat thingie last year. It is on their site under freeware. I uploaded a sound pack for it here.

Float planes..if you are adding them to the mix.....

AlphaSim's Arado AR196 is a joy to fly...freeware on their site and here in the SOH library (search under AlphaOldies as author). Wozza's T-6 Texan float plane, which is part of his T-6 package, sure is an interesting bird.

Bill Lyons did the Piper Apache PA23 floater, which is part of the PA-23 package...and comes with some very nice scenery and flights.

Also look for Bill's Ryan STA package...it comes with a floater version of the STA..fun little bird to make wakes in.

Mario Noriega did the Nardi FN-333 Riviera floater that is superbly modeled and a real nice flier. There is a Lake Renegade out there to be had. There is a Beech Volpar float version that is sweet...Brian Gladden did the Volpars I do believe.

Lionheart's Fairchild series has a floater.

Can't forget Bill Lyons PA-22 TriPacer amphibious model....superb aircraft.

I could go on and on, but the wife is thumping her foot at me and waiting to drag me off to Walmart to go shopping. She got a "new" laptop given to her (nephew's 2005 graduation present...picked up a nasty virus from porn sights...now that he is in the Army he has a new one....a deep format, reinstall and the laptop is as good as new....only been used for maybe 3 months before the virus took it out of commission)...anyhow, she wants me to pick up a wireless router set up so I can get her laptop on line so she can surf without having to wait for me to get off my system.

George Diemer did a couple Sikorsky S-38 variations, an S-39, and an S-44. I think they are still available at Flightsim.
 
Not a flying boat, but Milton's Beech 18 on floats is one of my favorite floaters.

Nope - I'm right in the middle of a "FS1950" install, so a few are fresh in my mind, and the rest are from a 2-minute search on flightsim and avsim.

NRM, if military boats are more to your liking, Tim (Piglet) Conrad's Kingfisher is really nice - with quite a few repaints to boot. Sorry - that one escaped my memory when I typed my first entry.

The mahogany hulled S-39 and the Alligator Air Lines S-39 are part of the fictional skins pack I uploaded for George Deimer's S-39. My fave skin out of that pack is the Collier County Sheriff Search and Rescue one.

Actually, there are relatively few files hosted in the SOH add-ons section (12,349 of all types) whereas at Flightsim.com there are over 17,000 jetliners and repaints for them alone. You'll find that Flightsim, Avsim and Simviation are the places most of us look first. Then, as you go along you get to know a collection of other sources that are more specific... CalClassics, Classic British Flight Sim, UKMIL, and so on. The search engines on most are pretty good ( and a lot better than the Outhouse :whistle:) so those are the places to start if you want to look for particular types, paints, categories.

Besides, starting a search there leads to all sorts of wonders when you get 'off the beaten track'. If nothing else, running through their file libraries is a fine way to spend a day or a hundred.:kilroy:

Looking through the lists

We have All of Jen's Flying boats and upgrades, Several by Ted Cook (the Blackburn B20 and his wonderful little Viking 1 for fs9 and fsx, Hawker Osprey) - Mike Stone's Walrus (with an interesting repaint by Jaap de Baare), Dave Molyneaux's Short Scion on floats, Plus the Sopwith Tabloid Schneider. There are others in the pipeline as we speak.

Oh yes and lest I forget Dave Garwood and companies DH Rapide on floats for FS9

LOL I keep finding more in our own library - Peter Larkin's Short Sealand!

Yeppers, the Volpars are mine. I also had a hand in working on the RSDG Lake amphib too.
