Forceware 195.39 released

Best drivers to date Mike, no issues whatsoever. Didn't even have to uninstall and reinstall nHancer as I often do when I install new nVidia drivers.

Definitely faster, in all programs, not just Flight Sim.

Recommended.

Thanks

Worked great...I'll report later on how FSX is running with the new drivers...Thanks a lot...

Steve

On XP or Vista (or even Win7)??????????

For XP go to Start\Set Program Access and Defaults\Change or Remove Programs.

Then scroll down to nVidia and click on 'nVidia Drivers' then click the 'Change/Remove' button.

Be aware that when the old ones are removed it will want to reboot and when it does it will come back at 800x600 resolution (as it has no video drivers) so it will look odd and all your desktop shortcuts will look huge.

Install the new drivers and reboot and you should be good to go apart from sorting out all your shortcuts as they will all be clumped together if you had them arranged in any way before.

I can't help with Vista or Win7 as my daughter has my Vista laptop at the moment and I can't remember the exact steps for that off the top of my head.

update from me. i tried the 195.39. i had noticeable worse performance in falcon 4:af and fsx.

just switched back to 191.07 - the performance is way better in both sims.

using 8800gts 512mb with win 7 x64.

I installed this driver late last evening after the glowing commentary and initially had some problems with the installer locking up if I double clicked it to start the process. I finally had to right click, then "open" and it ran fine after that.

Thus far, I can say that I see sharper details, but I have picked up a bad stutter that I didn't have with the 191 driver. I use NHancer and the settings are based on the terrific tutorial written by NickN over at Simforums. I'll continue for a bit more to try to tweak the in sim settings to see if I can lose the stutter. If not I'll consider this driver a "no-go" for my system and revert back to the 191 driver.

Make sure you double-check that your nHancer settings are as suggested by NickN. A couple of my settings changed and I had to reset them after installing these new drivers. It's always a good idea to re-check nHancer settings after any driver change or changes to the FSX graphics settings panel.

Yep, I did that. Installed the drivers then ran NHancer and redid every setting to his suggestions.

There is an alert posted on the nHancer support forum, a couple weeks ago: http://forum.nhancer.com/announcement.php?f=5

There is an issue with all drivers with version 19x.x and later. It seems that those drivers don't accept any profiles right after they've been installed.

Not only nHancer is affected but all profiles, even when they were created by nVidia or by nVidia's ControlPanel.

The following procedure seems to solve this problem. It only has to be done once, after that the profiles work just fine until another driver is installed:

  • Start nVidia's Control Panel (right click on the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel").
  • Select the menu pane "Manage 3D settings" (it's the second selection from the top in the left panel)
  • Make sure that the tab "Global Settings" is selected.
  • Change the "Antialiasing-Mode" to "Override any application setting"
  • Press "Apply"
  • Change the "Antialiasing-Mode" back to "Application-controlled"
  • Press "Apply" again.

I hope I'll figure out a way to make this procedure superfluous in one of the next nHancer releases. Until then this workaround has to suffice.
I had to do this to get the FSX profile that Nick came up with to activate again.

I haven't had much luck with releases past 182.50 for FSX, they usually caused FSX to become a slideshow. It looks like I've dropped a couple frames per second in some areas with this driver set. I run with pretty heavy scenery settings.

However...

FSX is running like a marble on a sheet of glass with these drivers. Even under heavy scenery loads, FSX is not stuttering (badly), and it seems to be loading textures much faster on my system. I don't mind losing a couple FPS for such smoothness. I'm sure everyone else's "mileage will vary", but for a beta set, these drivers seem really stable on my system.

Dain,
I made that AA correction in the control panel, then went back to the scenery I had been working on where I noticed the stutter and it's gone now. Excellent little tip there. I went to NY City which I consider to be the place to check if FPS has increased any in heavily populated areas and I might have picked up 1 extra FPS, lol.

Loaded new drivers and no trouble. Prelim with Kodiak so far reports much better sharpness and crispness with scenery and fluidity, less stutters.

Having flown a few hours now with the new drivers in various settings and with various aircraft, I have to say I see steadier frame rates...Not faster, but way less drops and peaks...Seems to remain rock steady...Can't really say things look sharper, but that could be my eyes! I'm sure different systems will see different results, but, I am pleased and will keep the drivers...

Gave the 195.39s a run in 3D Mark.

Not a good set, scores have dropped quite significantly compared to the 191.56s.

Yes the water is very nice, but I had to turn down some of the blue, Clouds do look better. I just put it with my new 260 and the whole lot runs smoothly, no jerks or jumps of any kind....very nice driver indeed.

Hey Bjoern, 3dmark means nothing, its gameplay that counts, It gets posted quiet a bit, but those scores mean little , they are just pretty pictures to make you feel good. There is always a differnece between 3dmark and gameplay , which is what most people prefer. Ie is it smoother, are FPS higher, more stable. 3dmak can give you a really good score then when you play it is worse. Dig around the driver forums you will see what I mean.

Something we all need to understand. Every pooter runs different. So when installing updated drivers they all act different...don't know why. For the ones who didn't see an improvement...sorry...for the ones who did...yepeeee!
