Freeware Grumman Duck

Gents

I worked and worked on the flight dynamics package for the FSX Ducks...and I can not get it fully cracked. I am not a skilled FDE guy....I get by on a little knowledge and a lot of luck...and it seems as if I need more of both for FSX. I will be outside most of the afternoon and early evening hours...that spring time yard and garden work doesn't get done on its own...so I won't have much time today to tinker with it.

I sent a deshined set of MDL files off to RobH for testing. I reduced the specular shine from 100% to about 40% or so. The plane still has a bit of gloss, but not a SHINE. Once he gives me some feed back, I will either be making additional adjustments or uploading.

I did do a lot on renaming to the J2F6 Model folders...it makes it a lot easier knowing which model is for which variant instead of Model, Model.1 and Model.2. Having a name like Model.NoCowl_LoGloss makes it pretty darn easy to know that that is the Model folder you want to use when you want a non-shiny Duck without the engine cowl. I will write up a little thingie explaining the naming structure and how to modify the config file to use the renamed Model folders.

And a heads up for ya all...Wild Bill Kelso has uploaded a wide screen 2D panel for the Duck. It's in the FS2004 Panels library.

OBIO

Thanks OBIO, I think they are perfect. Now I need to add more weathering and such, since we can actually see it now.

Mr. OBIO,
Thanks for your efforts in making a better Duck. :salute:
Question: Does your upgrade package works for fsx too?

Thanks again!

Is there any possibiliy of a new prop disc for FSX coming? That would be the icing on the cake for this great model.

I downloaded Markus Hellwig's widescreen 2D panel from the library. Is it possible to convert this nice panel for non-widescreen use? I've been messing with it, but have not been able to do it.

Great that worked. :applause: So many post on this, I missed that one!
Hehe, the thread lock-down during the freeware/payware dispute threw everybody off. Obio uploaded his original FDE tweaks for the Duck in FS9 and I didn't know it until I sent him a PM. BTW there's a 2D panel uploaded today as well.

Thanks, mate - glad you like it!
Didn't figure out there's still demand for a 4:3 "non-wide" panel. Now I'm convinced:
A "narrow screen" version has already been uploaded!

Cheers,
Markus.

Got it, thanks.:salute:
Markus, you made a widescreen 2D panel for the Cessna 185F. Could you make a narrowscreen of that panel? I would much appreciate it.

John

Doggone, Markus, you are quick! I was about to upload a 4:3 Duck panel here and saw yours. Mine should be in the flightsim and avsim libraries soon.

I noticed you didn't add mouse controls for the Battery, Elec Fuel Pump, Magnetos, Engine Primer, and Starter in the VC on your widescreen version. If you want to, go scarf up mine, include the transparent mouseable gauges in yours and upload a V2.
Those non-functioning VC switches are why I started my project to begin with.

Now I have 4 Duck panels to select from, two of yours and two of mine...Don

Thanks for your kind invitation, mate! :salute:
But no "V2" from me:
My intention wasn't to replace the very nice VC with a full-functionable 2D pit. My 2D panel was meant as an addition for the "just-flying-along" situation and the touchdown phase with reasonable outside view and the "holy six" gauges in sight.
As far as I'm concerned, a well done VC is great for the startup/shutdown sequence to keep your (coolie hat) eyes and (mouse) fingers busy...

@ John:
Transferring the Skywagon's panel to 4:3 ratio would require a completely new panel layout with the loss of some gauges. The Duck's quite basic panel was easy to adapt, since it's centered. Just cutting to outer "less important" areas won't work with the C185.
Sorry...

Cheers,
Markus.

I couldn't agree more! That's what I suggested you enhance. No new textures or rework of the VC, just transparent switches to make the VC fully functional for startup/shutdown.

I did include two versions though, one with the DC-3's Sperry AP heading and pitch functions along with a pop-up GPS, for those that wanted at least minimal AP...Don

Ehmmmm - I didn't change a thing of the original VC settings:
The toggles you've mentioned aren't coded as gauge files, thus not included with the panel.cfg file. That's why I didn't touch them - but they're still there and working (obviously embedded with the model code).

Cheers,
Markus.

You misunderstood. The modeled visuals in the VC follow the SDK gauge variables code and do move properly when that function is activated/deactivated.

I created transparent mouse boxes and hunted down the correct placement and added them in the panel.cfg section for the VC. No visual changes to the VC just functional.

Now I can do complete start-up/shutdown from the VC with my Hat and Mouse...Don

Are you going to post the XML code for the mouseovers?

Dave

Look, I've been on that Russian site three times and I can't find the J2F Duck.
It's a shame. I used to play with them before the war.
