FScene FS9 Mega Pack....

OBIO

I was looking at this package on FSPilotshop yesterday. Not much info on what all it covers.....though I assume that it is a comprehensive ground texture package that covers much of the sim world. Does anyone have any insights to the package, how well it improves the overall look of the sim. Can it be used in multiple installs of FS9? At $15, I might just have to step up to the "Big Time" and buy my very first scenery add-on.

I dont own FScene's product, but from screenshots that i saw it seems have a bit oversaturated colors, and if you search web for some time (in russian avsim there are very nice terrain replacement textures to chose from) you could get much better result for free. Ground Environment Professional offers much more various tweaks (like this) although price is a bit high, but it's best.

I've been a fan of Ruud's stuff since fs8. The latest megapack comes with both fs9 AND fsX and gives you a simple exe to run. I recently ported it over from a failed drive to a new one and had zero problems. I think you will enjoy the results -- especially across the seasons. Plus it's a really good price.

OBIO - I bought the MegaPack a year or so ago for the same reason you are looking at it; it was such a good deal. Installed in FS9 it make, to my eye at least, a great improvement to the default FS world. And it does even more for FSX. Don't look for absolute perfection. But the overall "ambience" of FS is much improved. Once again, and in my opinion only, it's a great deal. I'd say: go for it.

I also bought the Mega Pack at the sales price. For the most part, I've been satisfied with it. I made a back-up copy of my texture file before installing it. I'm really glad I did that as there are a couple of my original textures that I like better. One in particular was "muddy water" that someone posted here.

I don't have FScene to compare with, but I still rather like the free Silver Wings scenery addon. It might be worth at least a look before splashing out.

I use the ground textures from Golden Wings/Silver Wings with some other enhancement packages dropped in. I am happy enough with the way the ground textures look in my installs with these freeware enhancements, but for less than $20, I figured I'd step up to the "big time" with a payware scenery enhancement. Odds are, I won't pony up the money and will use those dollars to purchase another one of the TopFlightSimulations planes or one of the Razbam Skyhawk packages.

OBIO, I think that is a plan....With all the "free" stuff and other tweaks, you probably already have comparable scenery anyway. Speaking of GW/SW, I really like the weather themes in them.
