FSD freeware T-38A...first skin WIP

I have been tinkering with the freeware FSD T-38A (package can be found on Simviation.com). Tweaked the MDL files to fix some transparency issues (see previous thread) and working on a paint template. Falcon49 gave me the suggestion of incorporating his panel for the payware FSD T-38 into my work....have that almost done and theVC panel looks amazing. Have tweaked the panel config file to make the VC gauges even sharper. And I have been working on a paint template for the plane. Have the first new paint nearly done as far as the external paint goes...still have a bit of work to do on the details. This paint draws elements from two images I found online. This paint is a nice white and orange trainer scheme.

The second round of screen shots. Closer to being completed...at least the externals. Still have a good bit of work to do on the panel config to bring it up to date for FS9, still have to tweak the effects, and finish revamping the internal VC textures. When done the plane will have been thoroughly updated and restored.

A second message was sent to the folks at FSD International about obtaining permission to upload the entire tweaked package once I have it done.

Owen Hewitt, the original designer for FSD is a friend on facebook of mine. He might be able to help out in that regard. If you have FB drop him a message there.

Has anyone ever tried to tame the flight dynamics for this model? It flies well enough but there's this strange effect when I run the trim too much or pull hard on the controls, I get a loud tone suggesting to me that I'm exceeding some sort of limit.

Looking good tim, I tried this bird before but wasn't happy with the transparency of the cockpit, with your two paints and mods I'm definitely going to give it another go. To my eye, The T-38's and F-5's just look right for a fighter jet

I got the green light for uploading my "Restored" T-38A. Once I get a nice selection of paints done and the VC totally revamped, I will be uploading this awesome trainer. I fell in love with the T-38 the first time I ever saw one..not in real life, but in the movie Dragnet with Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks..remember toward the end of the movie when they were chasing down the bad guy to rescue the virgin Connie Swells? They were in a NYPD T-38. Will have to watch the movie on Netflix and take notes on how that bird was painted and do up the FSD Talon like that....only fitting don't ya think.

Well done, that showed a bit of grit, to see through...
Also a favourite, and looking forward to your mods.

Would it be possible to do a white paint job without the orange? That would be representative of the 1970's and 80's.

I will be doing a couple of the standard white USAF numbers, one for Edwards AFB for sure. Also a desert version of the second skin I have done and shown in the Help With T-38 Scheme thread. An overall low vis-gray, a black beauty with those awesome red/orange markings, another black scheme with whitish markings (The Black Eagle Squadron), a couple USN Test Pilot School schemes, a couple for Portugal, one for Taiwan. If I can find any pics of the T-38 in German Luftwaffe markings I will do one or two that way as well.

How about a paint from the most prestigious military flight school in the world...the Euro-NATO Jet Joint Pilot Training (ENJJPT) at Shepard AFB, Texas.

I can definitely do up that Pre-Natal Joint Smoking Pilot's Training plane...or what ever you called it. Looks rather striking in its simplicity. And now I have a clear image of how the top of the wing is supposed to look.

LOL. The top left wing has the US insignia thingy ... the star in a blue circle with red white and blue wings.

I always think it kinda sad to see an a/c impaled that way, sort of undignified if you get my drift to end its days like that. Reminds me of those displays by lepidopterists.

Here's a nearly complete USAF white scheme....based on a pic I found on Airliners.net and a few others...not a 100% accurate depiction of one specific aircraft...but a general respresentation of a paint scheme used on the T-38. There are a few things I still need to add, and one "glaring" texturing issue that we will just have to life with. Some more adjustments to the placement and size of the wing markings will come as well.

Note the displacement in part of the U on the lower left wing. The landing gear door is not aligned with the wing completely...the the U gets a bit bent out of shape. A skinner worth his or her weight in salt would spend the time needed to manually tweak the U to make it perfect. Luckily for me, most of us simmers are older and have been put on low sodium diets by our doctors...so I can get by with leaving a funky U on the plane.

As far as the sad plight of these "Gate Guard" aircraft...impaled on poles and the like....while I would rather see the planes flying, the truth is there just isn't enough people with deep enough pockets to restore, maintain and fly them. Better to have them sitting on poles and "preserved" to some degree than to have them chopped up in bits and melted down and turned into pop cans.

OBIO

That one is on my list. Reminds me of the B-57 with that black and Red/Orange marking scheme. The skin I do will not be 100% accurate...because there are some texturing issues that prevent total accuracy. But it will be as close as I can make it.
