FSD P-38 repaint

I've got the scans, so expect a Maru over the next weeks..

I've also started on some dirt, most wartime pics show really dirty aircraft, especially behind the turbosuperchargers. Still wip, will keep me occupied for a bit, but do you prefer your birds dirty or clean?

Jankees, you are a true artist! I always download any warbird painted by you or John Terrell because I know you guys go out of your way to make it right. I never cease to be amazed by the quality (and the quantity) of the the repaints that you crank out.
Having said that (and at the risk of being a full-blown rivet-counter), there are a couple of little things about the P-38 that I have noticed. First, according to my sources, it seems that Maloney's Pony should have red wigtips to go along with it's red booms. This practice (colored booms and wingtips) was used as a squadron ID for the 1st Fighter Group at the time the Pony served.
Secondly, and more universally, I think the antiglare panels on the nacelles do not go far enough back. Every natural metal Lightning I've ever seen from the war era had the extended antiglare on the nacelles, and almost every natural metal real world restoration and flightsim repaint I've seen gets it wrong (for whatever reason). I've attached some images to show what I'm talking about. Notice how the antiglare extends back past the scoop beside the supercharger and even spreads into the inner wing. Of course I realize this little detail may not matter to anyone else, but I'm a major '38 freak and I can't help it!
Finally, and this is just a general question, would the exhaust stains on the booms be that rusty looking? I always pictured them to be a grayish brown but I've never seen them in real life so I don't know.

Red wingtips, you could be right. I based it on drawings and profiles and some show the red tips, some don't. The only pics I have don't show the wings at all, so that's no help. I'll add them,as it will look better I think, OK?
With the anti glare, you're probably right there too, but again, it's not really conclusive, as I have a few pics of the smaller antiglare too. It's amazingly difficult to find pictures of P-38's that show all the details, so very often we'll have to make assumptions. I will make bigger panels as indeed, most seem to have them. They should extend over part of the inner wing too. I just started painting P-38's, so while I may paint them relatively quick, I'm slow in posting them, as I'm not happy with details like this either, and so I have them on the back burner while I look for more info..Maloney's Pony seems to have small panels, btw...
as for the stains, I'm still experimenting, so your feedback is much appreciated. It's a nightmare getting it right, as the area consists of many many different parts, and I am still far from happy. I have never seen a real Lightning either & being colorblind doesn't help either.....
So a bit of patience, while I do a bit more research, and adjust the panels, and you can look forward to a few more P-38's in the (near) future, OK?

OK, here's another update.
I've added the red wingtips, and the larger antiglare panels (checking the pics of the pony once more, it may have the larger ones after all. Oh, to have a time warp machine..), and I've greyed out the exhaust stains.
Any better??
I have also reduced the texture size to 2048, as this bird is a fps monster. I think the textures still look perfectly acceptable:
I'll probably reduce all of the textures to 2048, so the specs and bumps as well, see if that helps as well..
Any more suggestions?
