FSRealWX?

Sbob

SOH-CM-2025
I've been using it for years and I know it still works. I'm trying to get it set up on the new machine but I'm hitting some problems.

It won't connect to FSUIP. This may be a 'WX update issue as I installed it from a much older zip file and its balky trying to get it connected to the web site.
Is anyone *really* home at FSRealWX? The program translates weather files from NOAA(??), Vatsim, and ICAO so its pretty automatic.

Any Win11 users have any info? Does it even work with Win11? Run as Admin or not? The only Compatibility option I get is for Win8. I installed it to a Windows (X86) / Microsoft Games location. Good idea or bad?

If you're running FSRealWX on Win11, how did you set it up?

:ernaehrung004:

I'm trying to do this on the "up and up" but that doesn't seem to be the best solution. :dizzy:
Back in the day, I paid the fee for both FSRealWX and FSUIPC and had them registered.

FS9 on the new machine got FSUIPC installed with some ABACUS aircraft carriers.
I'm going to attach my "master" (Win10) HDD clone to the new machine and transfer over my registered FSUIPC install plus the complete FSRealWX files and see how Win11 likes it.

On the Win10 machine, I found the "key" file from getting FSUIPC registered and opened it up to check it out. Way back when, I had mis-spelled my email addr and tried to correct it, just for S&G. FSRealWX didn't like it and wouldn't connect. :dizzy: I'm thinking that "key" file is the one thing that's holding up the works :wiggle: so I'll try doing a bulk transfer of both files. It isn't an elegant solution but what the heck.

Meanwhile, I did some exploring on my "new" install of FS2002 Pro on the new machine. It turns out, there WERE two versions of FS2002. :p
Several years ago, I bought the complete FS2002 Pro box set for my Box and CD collection and this addition was the bee's knees. The box has a label on it saying its an official M$ evaluation copy. Cool, maybe Bill himself or Steve had handled the box?
Anyway, I played around with FS2202 Pro and found that the ONLY stock plane that didn't get a VC was the Mooney. ALL the airliners have full VCs.
I want to check out some scenery areas. Redmond, Wa for sure and Seattle. I also want to check out Brussels. I kept seeing screen shots of the Atomium for FS payware titles, but I was never able to find it. Maybe now? Meanwhile, I DID install some Abacus carriers with FSUIPC and the arrestor cables work again. :wiggle: I may leave this install "mostly pristine" and just add some basic moon, sun and skybox mods. Maybe some of the FS9 aircraft I converted to FS2002?

Seriously?? No one's had any experience with this in Win11, yet? :geek:

Over all, I've found it easier to install this stuff in Win11 and get it all working. But I was expecting some hassles.

So far, FSRealWX doesn't want to connect to FSUIPC and I tried to install an old (download) copy of FS Repaint (Abacus).
I think the next step is to install the final (freeware) version of FSUIPC for FS9. That should fix my live weather.
If you do install this final version, the registration info is right in front of you at Pete's site. If you're like me and you couldn't find it :dizzy: :

Name: free user
Email: fsuipc@free.com
FSUIPC3 KEY: Y8ZG SUWH TIQ2

WideFS6 KEY: IUT7 DBMK 1EU1

With FS Repaint, I bought it back when you could buy Abacus downloads from Amazon (2015?).
I had a pretty good hunch this wouldn't work anymore and I tried a couple of installs with no luck.
I DID find an Abacus CD version of FS Repaint (V2) on EBay and it should show up by Monday. Two bucks plus eight dollars shipping, but you only live once. :ROFLMAO:

If you've tried FS Repaint, you know why I still want to run it.
Its supposed to be still available but I'm not sure how "attended" the web site is:

Sorry, Bob, but my experience with FSRealWx is only with Win-10 and the, now free, version known as FSRealWx Lite. Same with the free version of FSUIPC for FS9 that you posted about.

I have to check for the server I'm going off of in "Lite," but I think it's the NOAA one. It's been a while since I flew with weather since I'm mostly just testing out stuff these days.

I do have a registered version of FSUIPC, but that's on the older machine I haven't used in a while. That one has Win-7 on it, so not really connecting online anymore.

I'm wondering if it's the programing for FSUIPC, maybe? Or FSRealWx? I've heard Win-11 doesn't like some of the older 32-bit stuff -- especially if it's trying to interact with other programs.

Could it be something along those lines, you think?

Hope this helped!

For FSRealWx weather, I tend to stick with the VATSIM or ICAO settings.
NOAA still works, but in the real world its getting phased out and you only get US coverage. No idea of how old those weather reports really are.
VATSIM and ICAO still seem to be going strong?

No big deal. :ernaehrung004: I wrote that I expected some hiccups and, to be honest, Win11 seems to be better when it comes to Compatibility Mode.
I can recall a LOT more testing and retesting when I was setting FS stuff up in a new Win10 install.

One idea I'm playing with for Win11 is to set up a "working folder" for FS stuff.
My taskbar and Start Window are already feeling a little crowded. I want to create a "workspace" in a folder that includes all of the programs/shortcuts, stuff like ARRCAB, AIREDIT, DXTFixer, etc.

So, I got FSRepaint installed, up, and running. :geek:

I was transferring some small files (gauges, texture folders, etc.) to the new machine with a thumb drive and noticed some odd zip files on the drive. The first zip I checked was the ORIGINAL install zip for FSRepaint. :wiggle: This dated back to when I transferred files from my old Vista rig to the current Win10 daily driver. Back in those days I was smart and added the registration key info on a text file to the zip file. Amazon/Abacus had an odd business relationship. The direct download zip file has a stealthy name so no wonder I didn't recognize it.

No big deal, it installed with NO issues aside from right clicking the install program and setting ADMIN before I ran it. :loyal:

So, yesterday wound up being productive. :wiggle:

FSuipc was automatically installed with some Abacus carrier scenery in both FS2002 and FS9.
I'd mostly given up on running real-time weather in FS2002, but that may be changing.
What was important was finally getting ARRCAB to work with FS2002 again, which it does. :p

What I finally did was take a chance with FS9 (only) and install the final FSUIPC version for FS9 and dump the unregistered version that worked with ARRCAB. No big deal aside from getting the KEY info installed (old eyes on my part). For FS9, ARRCAB works just fine and I did some carrier traps to celebrate. I woke up this morning and remembered that I didn't test FSRealWX yet. I just tried it and, yep, its now connecting and sending the weather over to FS9. There may be some hiccups with setting Compatibility mode or I missed ticking a box in FS9, but everything is talking to everything else. :wiggle:

Its possible that FSRealWX may work with FS2002 but the whole FSUIPC/FS2002 hassle was what pushed me into running FS9 in the first place.
If I can't load weather into FS2002, I already have a bunch of saved world-wide weather. At least it changes.

So, YES. You can run FSRealWX, ARRCAB, and FSUIPC with FS9 on a Win11 system. :loyal:

Meanwhile, I'm not typing this post to show off. I'm typing it because I don't believe what just happened. :ROFLMAO:
I've been goofing around with the new computer, off and on.
I managed to get FSUIPC registered in FS2002 using my old KEY file. Now BOTH FSUIPC installs will communicate with FSRealWx and..
I've got real-time weather back in FS2002 for the first time since around 2013. Real weather and ARRCAB running in FS2002 while I snag arrestor wires.
I'm still not sure about compatibility modes for some of these programs. FS9 and FSRealWx are acting a little flakey, like its the wrong Comp. mode BUT everything is working. I even checked the new CPU and it was humming along at 4.4-4.5 GHz (which also tells me there might be some Comp. Mode issues going on).
So, I've been meaning to clone the (WD) Win11 M.2 drive over to a Samsung 990 EVO Plus M.2 and I ordered it tonight.
Would it be a good idea to nominate the current WD M.2 drive to the FS Hall Of Fame? :wiggle:
'Cuz, this FS2002 stuff wasn't supposed to work.
