There is an error saying that the fsuipc interface couldn't be opened on fs2004... anyone else have/had that problem?

All I remember is I installed a plane using an auto installer. Don't remember which plane... might be simskunkworks freeware fs2004 aeritalia f104.

As a result, the sim can't operate fs flight ventures.

yes, you'll need a bit of trial and error and maybe have to go back to a different version of FSUIPC;
IIRC that model has FSX version in it Not the fs9 version.
Check in your FS9 Modules folder, there should be the main FSUIPC.dll ; right clicky on it to see its' properties ;
mine is version 3.999z
