FSX native Fokker D XXI RELEASED

Think I got the problems sorted out...

Carlos,

Can you undo the two extensions on the front of the plane? The tubes that come out of the fuselage? I will model them in the plane itself, but for now these leave a strip on the fuselage that should not be there.

Cees

Here is the final result.. If it meets with your approval... I'll send you the bmp ready to go..

It looks great Carlos. It looks like a version with the lights in the cabin and the cockpit on. Can you do a version with the lights off?

Hi al

I am sorry to interrupt your very interesting "spin-off" discussion, but I would just like to bring it back to the original subject for a while :)

Here are a few shots of my repaint of a Danish D-21 as it looked factory fresh in 1938 (still WIP). I hope you like them...

Wonderful work...

Very, very nice work... l wonder... can it be made a little more contrasting?
It seems a little "washed out" in the colors... is it natural metal or painted grey?
just a question...

Carlos

Hi Carlos

Only very few sharp photos of the D-21 from that period exist, and I think that the planes very painted in an overall alu-grey colour. I can try to bring a bit more contrast in, but it is not far from the original as it is now. The most iconic picture is propably the one below (note the Ratier propeller logo that is also present in the repaint). Ironically this picture was taken at Værløse Airbase where most of the Danish Army planes (including all our D-21's) were lined up nicely on April 9th 1940 as an easy target for the German attack on Denmark...

Ooops... don't know how that happened...

Carlos,

I noticed that you removed the blue partly on one part of the nacelles?

Cees

Easy to remedy... I didn't do it on purpose... mmmm Gremlins???
I'll send you a corrected bmp...

Thanks for pointing it out.. I would have never noticed it... Here are the revised textures and
they will be in your email shortly...

Nice Danish paint Kim! I've got already a Danish exterior model, but the VC isn't finished yet. Will come sometime. Paint layout won't be different though, so don't worry!
Indeed the Danish D.21s were painted in alu, later in camo.

I am glad that you like the repaint. The camo version will come later, when I have finished the last details on the alu version. I hope that I can get your permission to publish the repaint(s) on the same websites where your original plane can be found?

BTW, does your Danish exterior model have underwing pods for the 2 Madsen 20 mm cannons that they experimented with on J-42 (with poor results)?

On the 10th of May 1940 the D-XXI No 219 was flown by Ltn Henk van Overvest. He was a remarkable pilot but I will tell you more about him when I have made more progress with his aircraft.

He flew with 1e JaVa (1st Fighter unit) from de Kooy. 1e JaVa was one of the two units from the Dutch military aviation section which had a squadron logo. It is unclear were the three mice came from, but the "pointy shoe" was obviously handy to kick somebody.

Will be continued.......

@Kim: the Danish model I have now, is in fact the 'late' model, so the way the airframes looked when painted in camo. That means: no guns, no sleeves around the landing gear strut. I made a pic of this one:

@Huub: nice to see! Can it be included in the next update or will finishing the texture take a long time?

Edit: the 'early' Danish D.21 version, like the one with Madsen, will be used as an approach to the Finnish exterior. First though that Danish VC of course.

Daan,

No problem for me. As I want to add some shading and realistic weathering it will take a few weeks before it is finished. When you can wait this long with your update, you can include this livery in your update.

I'm also planning to do a "high number livery". This will most likely be the 236 flown by Henk Sitter. He made 8 combat flight in the D-XXI in just 4 days.
I was deeply touched by his comment: "When you receive orders to fly to Rotterdam and they tell you that there are 70 enemy planes active in this area and you will go there with 6, you will realise that the fact there are 70 isn't important anymore. You just have to do what you are told to do."

As I will use the same shading and a part of the weathering as on the 219 it will take less time to produce the 236.

Cheers,
Huub

Hi Daan

Thanks for the info. I can see that there is no real need for me to make a camo repaint then....

Kim
