FSX PMDG DC-6 to be released today...

Thanks for the info, yes probably be fine, I detune my FSX similarly to you but as I do a lot of water flying or uninhabited areas it does not matter that much. I run the Captain Sim jets without any problems (except like everybody else in FSX, full blown bad weather into a large city somewhere always gives it the jitters, so this beastie should not be a problem my system is 64 bit. It will have to wait for a bit, too many other things on the run at the moment.

I am surprised that the rush to do paints and screenies seems a bit slow, guess there is a lot of learning to do for some folks.

its because there is no FSX/P3D paintkit and there are some differences between the xplane and P3D version

You're quite right about that. But a few screenies can be arranged nevertheless, be it from P3Dv4. Afraid i haven't got anything else anymore... ;-)

Thanks for these beautiful screenshots Jan, the model looks absolutely beautiful. I only think the KLM logo on the nose is a bit stretched :biggrin-new:

Can you post some of the VC as well?

Thanks in advance,
Huub

Jan-

As of yesterday, I'm in the same boat as you...... Prepar3D v4 is it..... fantastic!

Thanks for those Jan. Impressive and looks right to me. I will have to take the same shots in my FSX and see how they compare. While I could run P3DV4 it would struggle on my system.
I had a look at the PMDG site re the paint kit, nothing yet, but I did note the ones available are bits of monsters in terms of size. From their forums and of interest was that there seem to be some issues re FSUIPC and this release for some.

My only paint wish list for this one, TAA, Ansett and TEAL (and maybe BCPA). Anything with nice shiney aluminium has me stuffed as far as repainting is concerned straight up.

These ought to give you an idea of the VC details.... that however, is just the TIP of the iceberg..... the sounds, the flight dynamics, the systems depth are all superlative. If there is anything specific you want to see, just let me know.

Well so far so good. This is the Ansett livery VH-INS. Downloaded and installed via the PMDG interface no issues. Loaded into my FSX-A no problems. Little bit of lag between loading VC and external view but nothing significant. Sounds are fine. Very impressive so far BUT I have run into the FSUIPC/Logitech Joystick issue so all my mapped settings are completely out (I can only control 2 engines with the joystick not 4 and no aileron or trim control and some conflicts with the mouse selection in the VC does one way will not do the other)and I guess this will take some sorting.

Yes, that could've been done better but it took so long already, I'll go with a "kniesoor die daar op let" ..

Not the only imperfection btw, PH-DFI had 8 cabin windows along the port mid section, not 9 as per the model, also 10 in a row at the starboard side, not 11. Also the name 'Petrus Plancius' is missing underneath the cheatline at both sides. Still, i'll happily take that all for granted. The model is utterly fantastic, especially the VC. And what's more, with the great help of the Flight Engineer it is quite easy to handle and a joy to fly. I have ordered printed A5 copies of all manuals (very cheap via 'studentendrukwerk.nl' ) with the meaning to send the FE home sooner or later. ;-)

Can you post some of the VC as well?

I think you'll find that covered pretty much by Carl and Nick.

Great shots, guys ! After waiting 5 years for it i still can't believe i finally got my dirty hands on that gorgeous playground ! :encouragement:

Cheers,
Jan

Me neither Jan, I had , like you, pretty much come to terms with it being
something that might never happen.
First your DDW VVC and now this, my two most favourite aircraft modeled
to perfection.

Yes, I see your VVC as up there next to the DC6, no less.
(Interactive checklist, piff, old news. :fat: :fat:)

The point is simple. Not everybody wants to flick every switch to make something work and if the ability is there for them to get it turning and burning with one click.. they'll cough up their $60 in order to enjoy the best model available. It makes complete sense for PMDG or any other dev to offer a 'quick start' function as it will widen the appeal and generate more sales. By all means make something technically superior but make it accessible to the masses too;) PMDG appear to have done both so hats off to 'em:encouragement:

... my point exactly .

Isn't it, Carl ! :jump: And since the DC-6 i'm virtually dead and gone to virtual heaven. Never thought i'd see that virtual day ! :biggrin-new:

This will be a first.

I've never owned a PMDG aircraft, primarily due to the fact that earlier versions of P3D were notoriously unstable and prone to crashing after spending 30 minutes setting up a complex aircraft for flight, programing FMC etc. The crash usually arriving at about the time the parking brake was being released. :banghead:

Now that P3Dv4 is out, and notoriously stable...I believe it is time to take the plunge. This will be the first, and I'm very much looking forward to the learning curve.

Well, for all i know, if your system runs FSX Ok, it should run P3Dv4 *much more* than Ok ! Atleast that's my experience and i certainly don't have a high-end system neither.

Indeed a plethora of DC-6 liveries waiting outthere for repainters. Maybe i'll get a crack at some myself for nostalgia reasons ( i did a truckload for the first ever FS DC-6 by the VIP Group. FS95 IIRC ). The default AA bird can do with a bit of polishing too. :)

Jan

There's a comment by RR in one of the manuals that suggests *not* to use FSUIPC with the DC-6, and even more, *not* to use it with ANY PMDG aircraft. Then again, i have read some comments of users using FSUIPC without any problem with either one of the PMDG aircraft. Particularly with the DC-6 it seems that the AFE can't get along very well with FSUIPC. I have all sorts of FS peripherals but actually don't use them....no room... ( i do have a 737 homecockpit as compensation.... :tennis: ) so i only use the freeware FSUIPC version on 'auto bases' (some models seem to need it).

I use a simple Thrustmaster stick with rotating handle for rudder/steering input. Buttons for elev.trim up-down, works fine with the DC-6 too. No issues with mouse-input. Remember that quite a few switches/knobs/levers work with the mouse wheel ( check those that only work one way with mouse click for you )

Cheers,
Jan
