FSX Screenshots Here!!

@Scianoir

I like your Pacific Air Dash 7 screenshot.

Am I correct that Orbx offers Papua New Guinea land mesh. Am I correct or wrong?

Regards,

Aharon

Hi Aharon,

ORBX has the freeware ......

PNG Holgermesh Papua New Guinea

Pete.

I just meant that the mesh was free but if you wanted better looking/photo real textures you would probably have to by an add-on pack for PNG. I have the mesh and it works fine with the default P3D v4.5 textures but I don't have it in my FSX install as I never fly that anymore.

In the ORBX page about Holgermesh, there is a screenshot with an intriguing Junkers aircraft. After a bit of research, I think it might be Lionheart Creation (LHC) Junkers W-33 from 2007. Apparently it's a FS9 portover, or a FSX SP1 version, made 20 years ago, still for sale in a few places... LHC should release it as "free former-payware" aircraft, like GAS or Classic Hangars did recently, don't you think?

I found another FS9 portover Junkers for free, it's Ralf Kreibich W-34 (avsimrus, simviation...). Surprisingly quite ok in FSX!

I agree, but unfortunately most developers are not as generous as GAS or Classic Hangars. For the larger developers it might actually be a good PR move to offer their older FSX products as freeware with the proviso that they are offered without support but I suspect, with some, profit remains a big motive.

My contacts with Bill/William Ortis (Lionheart Creations) were always very positive, so you could drop him a request on his web-page: https://lionheartsimulations.com/ . It of course is free to ask.

But you should realise there can be quite some reasons why developers don't make their products available for free.
  • For instance fear for angry customers who paid for the product in the past and don't agree with with the decision to offer it for free. ( No problem when you stop your business, but image damage when you still produce payware products.)
  • Contractual issues with the resellers, for instance when the rights on the product are sold.
  • "Items, module or software" used in the models which aren't allowed to be "given away".
  • The model still generates money for the developer and reseller.
  • Model has several designers involved and who can all make finiancial claims.
  • The developer and owner aren't the same.
And when you use you imagination you can most probably find some other reasons. In the end it is something which belongs to somebody else. So just as in the real world you simply can't claim it. And $15 for the complete package is perhaps a reasonable amount of money you can consider to spend.

Cheers,
Huub

@huub vink ,

You are correct about your explanations from your latest post.

To tell you truth, I think all software companies should reduce the prices of FSX and FS2004 products considering the fact 75 percent of flight simmers moved to MS2020/MS2024 or XP-11/12.

Why all MS2020/2024 airport sceneries are so cheap compared to much higher prices of FSX/FS2004 airport sceneries or FSX/FS2004 aircraft add ons of all software companies is beyond my understanding considering the fact that everybody is buying MS2020/MS2024 sceneries or aircraft add on sceneries and nobody is buying FSX or FS2004 sceneries. I do not think the old softwares are still generating amazing or little revenues for the software companies. I mean who wants to pay 35 bucks for 15 year old airport scenery or 49 bucks for 20 year old aircraft add on software? Reduced prices will help generate revenues for outdated sceneries or aircraft add ons.

Look at example of famous and great airport scenery software company UK2000. The company reduced the prices of all FSX and FS2004 British airport sceneries to only 9 bucks per scenery.

Aharon

To be fair, I have to admit I had not considered reasons such as these which could of course be valid for some products.

I do however agree with Aharon when he suggests that they should at least consider reducing the prices for their older products for outdated platforms such as FSX, as some have done.

Allow me to add some more elements:
  • We live in a system that is called capitalism, certainly after covid it has derailed and is now "greed" pure and simple
  • The cost of living is skyrocketing everywhere, devs and owners want to make money, if only to put food on the table and pay the rent
We elect the leaders we want and therefore get the leaders we deserve. If we want to get the leaders we really want, informing ourselves seems to be the way forward.

Just sayin'

I live in Kalifornia, I don't know how much longer I'm going to stay here. It's in a sorry state, beyond broken.

Anyway, if you want the product, pay the creators; otherwise, upgrade to a newer sim.

I just did! Thanks for suggestion. Yes I realise it might be difficult for Bill fron LHC to deal with his 5 vendors, ask them remove products or change price to 0$, and then manage additionnal disk space and bandwidth on his website, not to mention updating installers, adjusting licencing, etc...

I bought his Epic Victory (2015?) and enjoyed it a lot back then. I like Bill's sense of humour! Note the ipad in the passenger area, suitases outside, lots of eye candy all around...

But his Junkers 33/34 is quite enticing! Too bad, it says in the Simmarket page "This product does not support the SP2 update of FSX"...
