My oh my... just call Vicco Airport "Hotel California" (you can takeoff anytime you like... but you can never leave).

Barely enough speed to rotate and then to make it over that "lip" at the end... actually had to descend a bit to build up airspeed.

Route: SPLP - SPHO

Fuel Load: 1,500 lbs

It does add a bit of a twist... yes Mike... something a bit different. You know... have to keep your scan going... VME becomes so important then. Plus so fun trying to pick out the airport way out (if there is a beacon). Wx has been so good so far not to make it completely terrifying.

Not much chance to do this "normally" so getting some night in while the "gettin' is good." :)

Heading off to Cuzcotopia! (looking for the emperor's new groove btw)

Route: SPHO - SPZO

TOW: 23,540 lbs
Fuel Load: 1,075 lbs
Payload: 6,000 lbs
Crew: 340 lbs

A Blue and White DC-3 just landed... why's he following me? I wonder if it is el capitán general seeing how I am treating his generous loan to me.

Wow almost did a left 360 over the airport to ensure I would clear that terrain to the East... "straight out" worked ok. phew!

Route: SPZO - SPNP

TOW: 23,900 lbs
Fuel Load: 1,450 lbs
Payload: 6,000 lbs

Didn't find Cuzcotopia...

But did run into a talking llama... quite ascerbic if not astute and entertaining.

... decided to take off at night as terrain (according to the map) is relatively flat... and with such a high density altitude, hoping to take advantage of the cooler air.

At 16,000... every once in a while I see the VME come alive and start creeping downward to the hundreds of feet AGL. One hand on the autopilot disconnect, the other on the stick ready to yank and bank.

What a "trip" that was! Lost the Cuzco VOR about 35 odd minutes into the trip... so it was truly dead reckoning the rest of the way until seeing certain recognizable points on the ground.

First point then was the unmistakable VASI at Juliaca Airport. So I know I am close to Puno (in fact I have seen the city's lights for much of the trip) then the lakes NW of PUNA (dang a little east of course... make some corrections).

Since I haven't been here before, trying to get a picture in my mind where it should be (NW of the city, W of the "mini-peninsula"). LOP from Juliaca VOR is indicating I am very close! I should have seen it miles ago! Where is the nutty thing?!?!

Then I see it... barely. Hahahahahahahaha it's a dirt runway! Dang ACES care to make it any darker? Maybe a little camo to blot it out completely?

And I am a wee bit high at the approach end of 12... so instead of entering a left downwind for 30, I decided I'll just do a right 360 to lose the altitude.

All worked out well in the end.

Knuckleheaded... had the Duenna on and decided to Slew backwards for a bit more takeoff run (rather than taxiing) and the Duenna gigged me. :redf:

"Giggled" is equally appropriate.

A charmingly innovative non-event (scoring-wise).

 Thanks Mike...

Thing is I have done this at least once during "testing" so I was very :banghead: when this happened. :icon_lol:

With this phenomenal Wx, co-located airport & navaid and mega-runway lengths flying to places like Cochabamba at Night are very tempting (because of temp drop).
