Thanks Jeff but...

Since it was FSX default terrain, I didn't have the nice "steepness" someone else would have with a better mesh. So running into "rapidly rising terrain" usually wasn't a concern (e.g. flying to Bogota).

I also had that VME (radar altimeter) in the MAAM DC-3 which you know can be a huge plus. I wasn't aware such equipment was made "back then".

Plus, Wx was fantastic for the most part. No way I could have accomplished that if it was like 2 summers ago when we did the Evita (from what I remember of it, clouds almost always obscuring the peaks)... then it was -> find the max elevation and add 2000' minimum for cruise altitude.

I had been in once to each of Boconó, "Papa Grande" (had the little house to fly over) and Vicco. Boconó and Vicco surprisingly (to me) harder to find in the dark, particularly Boconó... I had an alternate picked if I couldn't find Boconó (Valera - NDB "on field")

Puno was the "big shocker" how close I had to get before actually seeing it.

Yes I was fortunate... Spotting Boconó when I was just about ready to pull the plug searching for it (burning too much fuel there). And the one take-off/reset at SCCF after Duenna didn't start on the server, and my autopilot was still on.
